January 1st – London (INN) The British Foreign Secretary today
has announced that the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium in the Sudan
will end and Sudan will be granted its independence.
January 8 – Quito (INN) it has been learned that five U.S.
missionaries, Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, Jim
Elliot, and Peter Fleming were killed today for trespassing by
the Waodani of Ecuador, shortly after making contact with them.
January 16 – Cairo (INN) Shortly after the UK's announcement to
withdraw their troops from the Sudan, Egyptian leader Gamal
Abdel Nasser has vowed to reconquer Palestine from the
Israeli's.
January 26 – Helsinki (INN) The Finnish Foreign Minister has
announced today that Finnish troops have reoccupied Porkkala
after Soviet troops have vacated its military base located
there. The Foreign Minister has also announced that Finnish
Citizens can return on February 4th.
January 26 – Rome (INN) The 1956 Winter Olympic Games have
opened in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy today.

January 3rd - Washington (INN) By popular demand, Peter Pan,
starring Mary Martin, is restaged live by the Producers'
Showcase on NBC-TV. While on the musical front Columbia Records
has announced the first releases of Glenn Gould's solo piano
recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations.

February 11 – London (INN)
The British Foreign Secretary has announced that the British
spies Guy Burgess and Donald Maclean have resurfaced in the
Soviet Union after missing for five years.
February 14–26 – Moscow (INN)
It was announced on the 14th that the 20th Congress of the
Communist Party of the Soviet Union has begun.
February 25 – Moscow (INN)
Today Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev has given a speech at the
ongoing Communist Party Congress that attacks the veneration of
Joseph Stalin as a 'cult of personality'.

February 16 – Hollywood (INN)
A little more than four months after the release of the 70mm
version of Oklahoma!, the film version of the Rodgers and
Hammerstein's Carousel, starring Gordon MacRae and Shirley
Jones, has been released in CinemaScope 55. MacRae and Jones had
previously starred in Oklahoma! Carousel, which was intended for
showing in 55mm, however, the films usually end up being shown
only in 35mm.
February 24 – Hollywood (INN)
Doris Day's record, her most famous song to date, Que Sera, Sera
(Whatever Will Be, Will Be) hits the top of the pop charts. It
is from Alfred Hitch c o c k's movie The Man Who Knew Too Much,
in which Day co-stars with James Stewart.
February 22 – New York (INN)
Elvis Presley enters the United States music charts for the
first time, with "Heartbreak Hotel."

Sorry about that, long story short next door's gardener cut
through the phone line. That was while I was having dinner.
