Gunny Tactics - A Post Apocalyptic Ballad
By: Carib Date: June 12, 2014, 9:07 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION - The Man, the Myth, The Last Marine
In an alternate timeline, divergent from the Great War of
Gunnery Sergeant Kevin Deshane, was placed in suspended
animation and awoke in a darker version of his world. However,
things were different. Instead of being that worlds savior he
adapted and blended into the new world. This world where the
       Brotherhood of Steel exists.
He has survived, even thrived. Along with him is his daughter
Askani Sherry DeShane. And this will chronicle his adventures
into the wastes. Safe guarding mankind from a shadowy menace.

PART 1: OF MEN AND BRAHMIN
By: Carib Date: June 12, 2014, 9:21 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
  HTML http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f41/vault013/Gunny%20tactics%20Redux/fbos0003.jpg
-Brahmin Chief: "As agreed, if you make Brahminwood Safe, we
will allow our young men and women to be part of your Steel
       Brotherhood."
Gunny nodded. "Fair is fair," He replied evenly, extending his
hand. "I give you my word as knight and a Marine, we will
       deliver your people."
Brahmin Chief: "You are very different... indeed. As they say, a
man is weighed by his word... or by the dung of the great
Brahmin. Save my people," the elder's eyes watered.
(Taking a knee and keeping watch) Askani and Spade standing
near, he checked his aid bag to ensure he had enough medical
aid. He was sure the raiders had probably ****d and abused the
       inhabitants already.
Askani, a girl of 17 looked at the weary Doc. "Bottle cap for
your thoughts?" She had her rifle up, looking for targets in the
       scope.
Doc smiled, "Just making sure I got band aids for all. Villagers
may be hurt, and we may need to keep a raider prisoner alive."
She smiled, not looking up from her scope: "Your a Pip, Doc. A
       real Boon to Humanity."
Spades smiled and nodded to Gunny, "Ready to move when you want,
       Boss."
Askani: "Got a Game plan, Papa-bear?"
Gunny hunkered down. "So far layout is standard. From what the
Elder tells me raiders are spread out. Getting chem'd up and
drinking. He says there are twenty of them... plus dogs. We're
few, but we got training and surprise on our side. We go in hard
and fast. Sooner we do this, sooner the General gives us a
       quality mission."
Askani sighed, "Ol' 'Barkin' Barnarky. I don't know if your
quick mind picked it up, but he doesn't like you very much."
Kevin Smiled, "Ha. Well I am not to fond of the General. But he
calls the shots and I worked for worse."
Spade didn't quite catch on what Kevin meant but it wasn't time
to ask. He liked Gunny. Most honest man he had ever met. Still,
there was something about him he couldn't quite put his finger
       on.
"Alright tea time is up. Lets go earn that pay." Gunny said at
last, hefting the M107 sniper rifle and shouldering the
       Thompson.

PART 1: OF MEN AND BRAHMIN - 02

The Aftermath of the Hut clearing. Gunny and his small strike
team had moved with all the fury of the avenging deity the Mad
Brahmin God. The raider lieutenant Max who was busy trying to
decide if it was brahmin **** he was drinking or some poorly
brewed beer hadn't realized the figure being silhouetted like a
gunfighter out of a pre-war film had just pointed his heavy .50
Desert Eagle and blew his teeth out of the back of his head. Max
hadn't even felt a thing. All he heard was a roaring ocean as he
watched his body hit the dirt. He watched as a violet haired
girl and a red headed man rushed in blasting away his comrades.
His breathing had stopped since his spine had been severed by
the huge round and was slowly sufficating as he watched his
       troop die.
His last thought was, "Was I drinking brahmin bull ****?"
Spades and Askani were like a surgical team. Ten seconds all the
raiders in that small alpha tent were dead.
The survivors looked at Gunny and his men in awe.
"You are safe now." Kevin said, his voice soothing and calm.
"T-Thank you.... By the Great Brahmin... thank you." A dark
skinned girl rushed and hugged him, crying. He had saved the
calfs of the tribe. Had saved them.
But it wasn't over. The Gunny and his team still had loose ends
       to tie up.
       "Where is their leader."
The girl pointed in the direction of the biggest and tallest
       building.
Askani scoped it, "I see sentries on the top and some shuffling
in the courtyard. But I'd need a higher point."
Spades was rapping up the wounds of some of the girls and boys.
They thanked him, but all Spades could do was weakly smile and
       get back it.
"We move in five." Gunny said.

The Final Curtain on Operation Raging Bull

The strike team is ready, Askani has the left flank and Gunny on
       right.
The Raiders inside drunk and unprepared cower on the inside.
They heard the screams of their brethern outside. Heard the snap
and crack of hot lead hitting the air and making their mark.
One Raider had tried to run in and caught a slug to the back of
       his skull.
Gunny meant business and the Raiders knew they were on the wrong
       side of the field.
In a six minutes, Gunny and his crew made short work of the
       raiders.

The File of Carib the Nuka Cola Chaser: By all accounts, Carib
wasn't the most willing conscript in the Steel Templars, but one
has to make a living. Talk about a wrong turn at the Great
Divide. The Steel Templars weren't offering much, but as a
professional merc, Stryfe did see an opportunity to do more.

Naomi Alverz file: She came from the rough streets of New Reno.
Having had a falling out with her old gang, Naomi had to head
East or face death. She found the Steel Templars! They offered
her food, shelter and steady work; Alverz didn't mind after all,
       it was better than Reno.

       Raider Camp Aftermath
The mission had been simple: General Barnarky had gotten word of
a scientist named Miles Dyson who was in possession of military
tech. As usual, Barnarky asked for Volunteers, knowing full well
his protege (and eternal thorn) Kevin would accept.
"So," the General Began, "do I have some willing victims to go
along with our local Hero of Brahmin wood?"
"Sure," Carib stood up, "might as well earn my keep."
The woman of latin-American indian descent, Naomi sat in her
seat, legs crossed and carefully picking the dirt from her
finger nails with her trusty combat knife, "Count me in... can't
have the Hero getting all the glory."
"Well, looks like we have cadre of heroes for you," Barknarky
said with a sardonic grin, "come back alive... and if you don't
there are plenty more where they came from. DISMISSED!"

Gunny's group springs the scientist Dyson who hands over the
cybernetic arm... while everyone looks on, Kevin is deep in
thought about that bit of tech connected to his past. Carib
barely noticed, but he could have sworn Kevin was shaking as he
held what looked like a mechanical hand.
'Probably the adrenaline,' The Nuka Chaser thought as he took a
drink of his favorite beverage. Hmm, still fresh.

Death of the Raiders in the Region... The Team cleans up the
Raider Stronghold. It had been pretty easy. Still, Kevin had
wondered at the Raider Chief's ominous words. Askani
       materialized behind her father.
       "Dad?"
       "What's up Cub?"
"What did you think he meant by 'bigger problems back east'?"
Askani asked, her question making her seem like the little
tribal girl he had raised. She seemed almost like when she was
five and her mother had been alive.
Kevin weighed his words and watched as his new band had begun
looting the bodies and laying the provisions on the counter.
"I don't know," he began and then looked at the mechanical hand
in his satchel, "but I am sure we're going to find out."
Naomi threw some .45 caliber mags to Kevin, "Your cut, boss."
She smiled. While they didn't know it, they were all going to be
tied into a much bigger adventure.

       Quest for the Fushion Batteries

Father and Daughter talk about the Last mission. The Gunny's
bond with his daughter Askani is very close and tightly knit as
she is one of few people to know he hails from the before times.
It was a tightly kept secret. After all, if Kevin couldn't tell
his own daughter where he came from, who could he tell?
"I am going to see if those Tinmen in the arms room can work a
swift bolt action for Ol' Painless," she motioned to her rifle.
It had been given to her by her father on her tenth birthday.
Scopes had been changed out, but the camo stock, the match grade
barrel had been tried and true.
"We'll see," Kevin beamed with pride that his daughter knew her
weapon well. Secretly he did yearn for a day when she would be
able to put the rifle aside and meet a good man, have a family
and give him little grand children.
As they both chattered on about weapons and life, the loud
speakers blared. "Knight Throgrimm," the booming voice said,
"assemble your squad to the Command Center."
"That's you," Askani began giving a rye salute, "Knight Daddy!"
He tussled her uniquely violet hair, "Smart ass."

Preoria had been as General Barnarky and General Decker
described it. Primitive with a homogenous tribe. The Preoria
were known for being a single tribe. Polite, but they didn't
intermix or take any other outsiders within the tribe.
Carib had made the comment that one of the children looked like
they had a small tail growing, "I've seen weird things back in
       Arizona, but not this weird."
Doc Helen, who had joined the Team from Old Sin added, "Perhaps
background mutation from radiation and other mutagens. The
briefing said they sat on top of an old military facility. Who
knows what the pre-war military came up with down here."
Ian, the man with the patched eye who had been 'drafted' by the
Steel Templars had come from the California coast, "Weird folk
here. I think I saw a woman with three breasts. Of course, I've
seen a **** with three legs..."
       "Language," Kevin said.
"Sorry boss. I keep forgetting we got young ears."
Askani gave Ian a playful punch in the shoulder.
Carrying the heavy weapons was Sam Solo, little sister (the
woman stood at 6'2") of Steel Knight Solo, "Cleaned up the
stingers outside the wire, Boss. Roadrunner and I did some
female bonding and recon. The Tribe should be a bit happier with
us once they decide on if they let us enter the facility." She
dropped a bag full of stinger glands.
Thorgrimm motioned everyone around the fire. "It will be a few
hours before the counsel decides if they let us in or not."
Thorgrimm went on, "I know we have orders to take the batteries,
but I am a man of conscience and I won't violate these people to
further our cause. I don't care if Barnarky likes it or not."
Carib sat with Roadrunner in his lap, "That is why I asked to
get transferred to your outfit. You got heart."
Gunny's squad gathers around the center of Preoria to discuss
the plan of action to retrieve the Fusion Batteries. And he
decides to tell the group a camp fire story. It was the story of
Kevin DeShane the great old world adventurer.

The Group does a pest control of the area
At the end of it they clear the facility of the insectoid menace
and all walked away from the hellish sight of the Roacher. No
****roach had ever been reported being that big and Ian was
assured by Helen that the thing was sterile. Still, Ian would be
haunted by that sight for years to come. He lit a smoke and sat
       back and said, "Damn."
       Reaching in the power core, they removed the fushion battery;
the old world power that would drive the Steel Templars forward.

The Wachutu Elder confesses to Carib his deception and begs
forgiveness... Carib, being a hard man, gives the elder no
sympathy and doesn't end the mans life, letting him live with
       his guilt.
"You played us," Carib spat in the ground, "it would be a waste
to kill you. You killed your own people and for what?!" He
pushed the elder away, staying his gun hand.
Kevin watched as Carib headed for the transport.
Roadrunner and Helen swept for survivors, but there were none.
The automated system had done its final job and purged the
       surface.
Helen had tears in her eyes, "There all gone, Kevin."
Askani looked to her father, "Why do you think Carib was so
       mad?"
Kevin just stood and watched the the village of Preoria burn in
the distance as the Wachuta elder covered himself in the ashes
of his people. He looked at the fushion battery in his hands and
wondered why the hell he didn't just smash it into the ground.
       "I have no idea Cub."
