The first chapter of the book i'm writing you will be confused
but don't worry th more chapters i put out the more you'll
       understand.
       Book 1: the void
       Chapter 1
I arrive at the scene shortly after receiving the call. The area
is tapped off and a crowd has already gathered around the river
were the event took place. “Perfect” I think to myself with
disdain “just what I need potential collateral”.
I’m quickly met by the local sheriff and his deputies who all
seem less than happy to see me. The sheriff eyes me, as if to
size me up. He does this for several minutes before finally
deciding to speak. “So you’re the agent the knights sent eh”, he
says in a very gruff and offensive tone, “you don’t look like
much to me”. He was right I don’t look like much; I’m a fairly
small seventeen year old girl wearing black combat fatigues with
long black hair tied in to a pony tail, my only weapon was a
wooden sword fastened to the loop of my pants. He was I right I
didn’t look like much, but looks can be so very deceiving. “Now
listen I’ve lost three of my best men because of that thing
hiding in that river, now what makes you think you can do any
       better”.
I answer him with the simple truth, “Experience, now if you
would be as kind as to describe the nature of the attack I can
proceed to cleaning up your mess.
A vein bulges in the sheriff’s neck as he explains the situation
while choking down anger, “it started small a few missing pets
around the river we figured it was probably a gator so we just
put out notice telling everyone to keep an eye on their animals,
but then the missing child reports started coming, so we started
investigating the river when it attacked us. A mass of tentacles
lashed at us on the shore. We were lucky to make it out alive.”
“You should have called us sooner we could have handled with a
lot less mess”, I said “but I suppose it can’t be helped now”. I
slowly walk to the shore treading lightly so not to disturb
whatever dwells in the rivers depths. As I walk I begin hearing
a distinct cracking noise underfoot, I look down to discover the
source bones buried under the silt probably the beast’s latest
meal. Taking note of the left overs underfoot I press on through
muddy river banks until I reach the river’s edge. I draw my
weapon, slowly raising it above my head and strike the water
fiercely. The water ripples rapidly outward, and the sound of
the impact rings out, fading just as quickly as it came. The
silence however is broken when the beast finally decides to show
itself. The tentacle grabs me by the waist and violently shakes
me before submerging me entirely in murky waters of the
Mississippi River. Running out of air I decided it was time for
me to do something, so I pulled a nail from my sleeve and carved
a symbol onto my sword, a magic rune to summon the elemental
fire. Obeying the order I gave it my blade erupted into blazing
red fury which I used to cut my way free. The beast made another
attempt to grab me, but it was too late, because I had already
aimed the tip of my sword toward the bottom of the river and
fired a blast of fire that shot me up out of the river and into
       the sky
As I reach for another nail from inside my pocket I see that the
monster is already in hot pursuit, stretching its monstrous
limbs towards me; jumping out of the water as it attacks. I
finally get a good look at what I am facing, a huge squid like
monster the size of a bus with a massive fanged beak. A claw on
all of its tentacles and horns dripping with poison, what I’m
dealing with is a kraken. It lashes at me from all sides; I
deflect each one with ease and quickly write my next rune. My
sword glows with a purple aura, and as I slash the air in front
of me a violet cloud released from it striking the kraken. It
fell on the shore writhing in pain until it took its final
breathe and fell silent. I landed back on the ground next to the
beast’s corpse where I was met by a breathless sheriff. “What is
that”, he said his voice a mix of amazement and terror.
“That is a kraken,” I reply, “horrors of the deep, first
discovered by the ancient Norse they were believed to be great
being of destruction that would one day bring the end of days.
“What the heck was that doing in the Mississippi”, he asks.
“She, probably escaped from one of the breeding farms up north”,
I observe the fresh carcass in front of me with slight remorse,”
it’s kind of sad to have to put down such a healthy baby, but it
had to be done the thing tasted human blood. If I had let it
live it probably would have killed again.”
“D-d-did you say b-b-baby”? He asks quite shocked.
I smile shrewdly, “yes, you see if that had been a full grown
female kraken, this town wouldn’t be here”, and just like that
the sheriff s, stiff as a board with his deputies trying to
bring him to. Unfortunately I can’t enjoy the moment as much as
I want to consider I am soaked head to toe, and coated with very
thick mud. Going to have to shower when I get home, but that was
all right. I like shower’s they’re warm and relaxing. I grab my
teleportation crystal my inside my pocket, and small dial
appears on the surface of the small stone. I use my finger to
turn the dial to home and as I’m about to hit the button,
suddenly I hear my comms crystal start to ring. I reach in with
my free hand and answer it “Agent Vivian”.
A high pitch shriek from the other end rang out in my ear,
       “Hey Vivi!”
Trying to recovering from what feels like my eardrum bursting I
respond, “Hello Mira, how are you”.
“I’m good, just wondering how your mission went”, she asks
playfully. Mira Nyrina is a sprite and the knight’s head comms
officer; she loves many things which includes but is not limited
to rainbows, puppies, pretty flowers, me, and her greatest love
and obsession peacocks. “After all I have to check in on my best
friend in the whole wide world”!
“A baby kraken attacked Mississippi nothing new”, I replied.
“Aw poor thing,” she says sadly, “I hate it when that kind of
thing happens, it makes me think of my poor little Fluffykins
and how he must feel about his brethren being killed”.
“I hope this isn’t all you called me for”, I say sternly.
“Oh yeah I almost forgot, the commander wants you here, he says
       it’s important”.
“That doesn’t sound good, know what he wants”?
“I’m not allowed to tell, but I’m sure you’ll love it bye-bye
now”. She hung up, and just like that my hot shower was gone. So
I took my tele crystal from my pocket set the dial from my house
to HQ, and hit the button.
