Udumo Tribe

Udumo (Honour) Tribe
The Udumo Tribe are a tribe of African Wild Dogs that
live on Savannah plains, away from cities and towns.
They live like most would call 'animals' they hunt and gather
foods, mainly meats from the wild animals that they can catch
there, they only ever catch as much as they need, never more,
and everything of the caught animal is used, the bones, skin and
fur, as well as the meat.
They are similar to Wolves when it comes to ranking, and
everyone in the tribe has a place and a job to do, all work in
harmony to help one another.
Instead of Christmas and Easter they have their own
celebrations, which are usually celebrated in festive dance and
song, and are not always annual celebrations, some are just at
random, for rejoice while others are an annual celebration and
are prepared for a few days previous to the actual date.
There is no gender discrimination in the tribe, whatsoever, the
females do not do the looking after the pups and cooking while
the males hunt and defend the pack, either gender can do any job
and get any rank within the tribe.
The tribe like a pack of wolves also has two alphas a male and a
female, although any member within the tribe may have offspring,
the alpha's offspring is usually heir.

Rankings:
Ranks are distinguished by facial and body markings, mainly
facial, the marks are made by paint (crushed up plants and bugs
to make specific colours) and then are carefully painted onto a
members face when their rank has been decided. Members cannot be
given the paint markings by just anyone, a specified mobian
comes and performs a face marking ceremony monthly, usually to
mark growing puppies whom have ear to their ranks when becoming
of age. Members of the tribe may also have body markings of
their colours if they so wish to, but they are optional.

The 'starting' marking, all new members and Pups are giving this
paint marking during the marking ceremony, to symbolise a new
beginning and a start, this paint is washed off when pups become
of age (17 and above) and find their position in the tribe.

Healer

HTML http://oi60.tinypic.com/10yzxgy.jpg
Healers are the ones to go to if you're sick or injured in the
tribe. Using the Mobius plants they find around where they live
as the medicines, some of the syrups they may give you to drink
for you to get better, may taste smooth and sweet, like honey,
while others will taste sour or bitter, either way it will be
good for you, the healers know which herbs help with what best.
While Healers are the ones that stay by he sick and injured,
some healers are also given the task of helping the Alpha's and
Special member, in helping those passed away members move on. A
ceremony is also performed for this, in which the tribe all
participates in the loss of a family member and a friend.

Warrior
HTML http://oi59.tinypic.com/2mfagdw.jpg
The warriors of the tribe do anything and everything in their
power to protect the members of their own tribe, from either
rival nearby tribes, or any kind of attackers should someone
dare to attack their tribe, the warriors are the first to
retaliate. Although this doesn't mean the other members cannot
fend for themselves, the warriors are simply more trained and
are a force to be reckoned with. They also bear tribal weapons
such as spears.

Beta

HTML http://oi62.tinypic.com/2dilesg.jpg
The Beat is the second in command, the Alpha's 'right hand man'
and he person in charge will the Alpha is busy or out/away.
Beta's also have a somewhat of an understanding of all the tribe
members capabilities.
Most Beta's are the Alpha's second and third pups, whom missed
on the chance of being the next Alpha as their brother or sister
was chosen instead.
If the Alpha passes away before the Young Alpha is ready to take
position, the Beta steps in place and teaches the Younger Alpha
until the time is right for the mobian to take it's place.

Young Alpha

HTML http://oi59.tinypic.com/ekep14.jpg
The pup/s of the alpha's are the young alpha's, there may be as
many young alpha's as the alpha's desire but only one may be
heir and become alpha, choosing one becomes more difficult the
more pups there are to choose from.
To choose the Alpha's must take into consideration the other
members of the tribe's thoughts and feelings also, an Alpha must
be someone who can and will take care of the tribe to the best
of their ability, having someone whom doesn't care for the tribe
will lead to ruin.
All the Alpha's pups if there is more then one will bear this
park from birth until the age of 17, upon which by then one of
the pups will be chosen as heir, this pup will continue to wear
this mark until the Alpha's pass on their role to them and the
young Alpha has a betrothed mate ready to take place beside them
in leading. The other young alpha's whom where not chosen will
be given other roles, almost always becoming second in command
'Beta'.
Young Alpha's train hard in all concepts of the tribe, caring,
hunting, protecting and fighting, as well as wisdom and healing,
preparing them for their Alpha position in the future.

Alpha

HTML http://oi58.tinypic.com/faoh13.jpg
Alpha's are the leaders of the tribe, though they rule with the
tribe and not rule the tribe itself. They are looked to in
decisions and planing especially when problems occur and are
someone you can always look to and trust in help.
They have an understanding in all the concepts of all the
members, healers, carers, warriors, hunters, and they speak with
the elders for guidance when they seek it.
Alpha's also have the responsibility of raising their pups, the
Young Alpha's, to become great members of the tribe also, and
while they do not decide everything for their pups, they help to
push them along and find their special someone when betrothing.
The Alpha mark is assigned by the previous Alpha to the Alpha
heir upon gem reaching age, and the Alpha passing on their role
in the tribe.
Once alphas have passed on their role, their marking is washed
off and replaced with the elder mark in purple.

*Add on Markings
Markings that can be added to the list of markings above
Betrothed
HTML http://oi60.tinypic.com/21oprlz.jpg
A marking that is added onto your current position (One of the
markings above), depending on we're or not you become betrothed
to an Alpha or a Young Alpha.
The mobian Betrothed will also become an Alpha, upon the two (If
they are betrothed to a Younger Alpha member) becoming of age
and taking leadership over the tribe (Moving to the 'Alpha'
rank). The two shall become this after they have been bonded in
a marriage ceremony, in which the whole tribe participates in.
The betrothed mark can be worn in 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend'
situations, but it's at risk of being washed off if the
relationship does not work out.
Those betrothed to the Alpha or Young Alpha, do not wear the
'crown' part of he marking (the part on the forehead) until they
are fully married and bonded with their beloved.

Naming:
Names of members in this tribe are African names, with meanings
behind to fit the mobian. When new members join they are also
assigned a name, regardless of age or if they already have a
name.
Pups in the tribe are not named until they receive their first
facial marking (See below), unless they are the Alpha's
offspring, in which they are named within the first few days
after brith, by both of their parents.
*Most names will be coming from here
HTML http://babynames.net/all/african
Language:
The Udumo Tribe speak an African language called 'Zulu' and know
little to no English. Most mobians will not know how to speak
'Zulu' and it may not even come up in language translators for
some, but perhaps some other form of communication may aid you
in speaking with them if your character ever meets the tribe.
*Google translate will be used for translating out what they
say, so please forgive me if I get something wrong, and it comes
out incorrectly translated, I will try my best! but you all know
how Google Translate is

Ceremonies and Celebrations:
Birth Ceremonies:
Death Ceremonies:
When a tribe member passes on, from old age or other reasons,
the entire tribe participates in their passing on ceremony. The
descesed's remains and some personal belongings and totem are
place with the body, which is placed upon the Great Hill, the
most active spot known for the Great Spirits. The remains and
belongings are then burned to help free the deceased's spirit to
the Great Spirits, the rest of the tribe stands in a circle
around the hill during the burning. When everything is burned,
the ashes are buried in the hill and the favourite tribal dance
of the deceased is done by all members of the time who can
perform it, including the Alpha's whom don't usual dance in
majority of ceremonies.
Marriage Ceremonies (+Celebration):
Marriage for this tribe starts off as a marriage ceremony and
afterwards moves into a celebration, the whole tribe
participates in both the ceremony and celebration, as the
bonding of two souls is quite a big thing in the tribe, it's
special and only happens once in a mobians life.
The ceremonies are planned by the two getting married, the
Alphas, the Elders, the families of the two getting together and
the Beta's.
Food is prepared for the day, and the tribe all have a big wash
and collect feathers and other decorative items they can find
and put it in their hair or tie it to arms or legs.
Full bodied paint is also very common to have during the wedding
ceremony but is usually washed off afterwards.
The Bride and Groom, rather then wearing a nice dress and tux,
have a special full bodied paint markings of their own with
their own choice of colours (Each bride and grooms marks are
different to match the mobian) They also wear specific coloured
feathers and other items to match, full on clothing isn't used
in weddings, in fact it's not really used in the tribe much at
all, the only things to be considered as clothing that are used
would be the gear the hunters wear while hunting to protect
themselves. So no big fancy dresses and tuxes.
The couple are also not allowed to see each other at all for a
week or so, while the wedding is getting planned, their say in
it is discussed together at a time before this and in the time
it takes for the wedding ceremony to be set up, they cannot see
each other until the actual ceremony
The two finish the 'marriage' part of the ceremony by holding
each other's hands to their hearts and rubbing their noses
softly against the others nose, symbolising that they will both
stay forever close to each other in spirit and in life.
The celebration part, set after the ceremony is another part
that the couple and Alphas, families of the couple, Elders and
Beta's get to decide on and plan and organise, the couple having
to top voice in the subject as it is their wedding. According to
what is planned, many of the wedding celebrations are quite
different to each other, all have food and dance, but some have
added more things that the couple comes up with.
Again, each wedding is different, ceremony and celebration wise.

Ancestors and Beliefs
Anyone who has seen the movie 'Brother Bear' will have an
understanding of what this tribe is like when it comes to their
ancestors whom have passed on. For those who haven't seen the
movie, I'll explain it the best I can, but seriously, go watch
the movie, it is so unappreciated.

(Bigger view
HTML http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110123203223/disney/images/f/fb/Brotherbear240.jpg)When<br
/>a member of the tribe, young or old, passes on the whole tribe
participates in helping them move on, but their ancestors are
always there, their Spirits go up to what the tribe calls 'The
Great Spirits', which is where the soul's and spirits of all
those whom have passed on go, even the animals. The Great
Spirits can be visited on special nights, when the sky is clear,
the sky will light up various colours of blues, reds, greens,
oranges and yellows, and the spirits of those whom have moved on
can interact with those still living.

But you can't talk with The Great Spirits forever, they can't be
seen in the light of day as they are light, so they disappear
when the sun comes out, and contacting the spirits in the first
place is not the easiest thing to do. Majority of the time it
takes help from an Elder and Alpha to reach the spirits to be
able to talk to them, sometimes it takes more then that,
sometimes it takes only a wiggle person to sit down and really
listen out, but they are always listening and watching over the
world, ready to take up the next spirits to pass on.

Mutations: (+Disabilities)
You may think that being away from cities and towns would mean
that they're free of pollution and the nasty effects that come
with it, unfortunately this isn't fully true.
The Udumo's land, although most of the time is lush and
beautiful, unharmed and untouched, there are parts of it that
have been affected by pollution, and they have had some nasty
side effects.
The Udumo's Alpha's and Elder's would not stand for seeing their
beautiful lands soils be spoilt however, and did their part to
try and fix it, and they did. But like was stated earlier, nasty
side effects.
The side effects?
Weeks after they had fixed their spoiled land from the
pollution, all of which had taken part in fixing it became ill,
but not in a curable way. They had gained multiple different
mutations and/or disabilities that became genetic from the
pollution, thankfully most of the mutations aren't life
threatening, and none of the affected died from these new
effects, but they did pass them onto their own children thanks
to the work of the genetic cycle.
Every member within the tribe has a chance of having or carrying
one of these mutations and genetic disabilities, and although,
as stated, most of them aren't life threatening, some can be
seen as a bit of a disability and some can actually kill you,
whether it's at birth or later in life is still unknown.
This doesn't mean every tribe member has some form of mutation
however, it means they all are able to pass them on though.
A list of the mutations that have been found within the tribe
and their effects:
Achromia (Albinism): 'Harmless'
Albinism
HTML http://cdn.list25.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ALion.png
is a
harmless mutation, in which the pelt of a mobian whom has it
becomes a Snow White. Some with this mutation also tend to get
red eyes along with the white fur and skin.
This mutation can be seen as a bit of a disability, as it makes
your fur stand out, especially amoungst brown and green savvanah
plains, so hunting for food with this mutation is going to be
difficult.
Melanism: 'Harmless'
Melanism
HTML http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5xYt6oVqUYI/T9fH4omEIFI/AAAAAAAACU4/qZ9Lz1dXaAc/s1600/black__melanistic__lion_wallpaper_by_paulie_svk-d52lazs.jpg<br
/>is a harmless mutation, that makes the mobian's fur jet black,
as well as their skin pigment.
The mutation helps you to blend in during the night, and isn't
much of a problem during the day either. Melanism is probably
the most harmless mutation, and can actually help.
Fur colour mutation: 'Harmless' with slight side-effects
Like Melanism and Achromia, this mutation is know for changing
the colour of a mobians skin and fur, however this on can change
sometimes the full coat, or just patches of it, and the colours
are usually 'non-natural colours' (Blue, green, pink, purple,
etc.) Not natural for he tribe anyhow, although they have gotten
used to having a few 'non-natural' coats within the tribe.
The differently coloured fur doesn't help with hunting and
blending into the surroundings of the savannah plains.
This one has also been know to give slight twitching effects to
most who have it, and some of their young, regardless of if they
too have the coloured fur also take on this 'twitch'. The twitch
can be of the whole body, or an eye twitch, a tail twitch or
even an ear twitch, any part of the body can have it twitch. No
one has been known to die from the mutation however, earring
it's harmless label.
Diseases/Other:
Stillbirths/Miscarriages:
First of all, these two are similar, but the difference is that
Stillbirth is where the child is alive in the mother's womb, but
dies upon being born, and a Miscarriage is when the baby dies
within the womb of it's mother, Both are very heartbreaking and
tragic, and both are never wanted.
The Elders as well as the carers and healers take care of
mothers while they are pregnant and help both parents when their
young are first born, helping them in raising the child for the
first few weeks or so.
Sometime's even the Alpha's are involved when helping a mother
get through pregnancy.
It is almost impossible to know if the child in the womb is
going to be a stillborn or is already a miscarriage, and usually
can only be known when the child is born, although some mother's
win miscarriages have known for their unborn child to die down
in kicking and moving until it completely stops, this is one way
but sometimes it is just impossible to tell.
Why and how the baby dies at such an age is unknown.

Music and Dance
Dance and Song are huge within the Udumo tribe, and can be found
within majority of their ceremonies and celebrations, as well as
being done randomly for fun or/and connection.
Singing and dancing together help the tribe to connect and bond
with each other at heart, and it almost always puts the entire
tribe in a good mood during and after song.
The Udumo's have a habit of letting other tribes and even
animals join in on their song and dance too.
Can't understand their language? Maybe dancing could be of use?
Examples of music that are similar to the tribes common music:

Totems:
(Also inspired by 'Brother Bear')
Totems are a palm sized special kind of wooden carved animals,
that, with the held of some grass string woven together, form a
necklace. Each tribe member receives a different totem to each
other, although some have gotten similar or the same ones to
that of their passed on ancestors before. Receiving your totem
depends on when the Great Spirits alert the Elders of when you
are ready to receive one. The totem is made only by the Elders,
and has been said by some that some of them are even carved by
the Great Spirits themselves.
The Totems display an animal that best describes who the person
is, or who they are working to be, it is always revolved around
something of the person, whether a desirable trait or quality or
not is up to the Great Spirits

HTML http://cdn.instructables.com/FR6/TT5N/HSRTGHDY/FR6TT5NHSRTGHDY.MEDIUM.jpg
The totems are to always be worn, they help to show people of
who you are, and also show a sign of respect and acknowledgement
to the Great Spirits and Elders on their decision of your totem.
Some totems have been said to also lead people to great fates as
well as great tragedies, some don't appear to do anything out of
the normal and some have been said to be able to transform into
the animal in which their totem displays. Who knows what's true
and what's not here though? Maybe that'll be found out at a
later date.
