As Cate was pushed away, she felt a frown cross her face for the
first time that day. She placed her hand gently on his shoulder,
trying to comfort him. "Okay, maybe not perfect, but... You're
perfect for me. I love how naive and childish you are; that's
what makes you so sweet." Thinking of what she should do, she
reached for the glass of juice she had poured him earlier and
held it out to him. "A couple imperfections don't bother me,
Shoke; you're good where it matters."

"But nothing, Shoke." Cate simply said. "You're a good guy, a
wonderful guy; heck, you're nice enough to like me despite all
my flaws!" At this point, the hedgehog girl's eyes were starting
to water up, borderline ready to stream tears down her cheeks.
"All I've ever heard is insults about me; I'm too short, I'm too
fat, I have stripes, I run too much. You're the first to look
past all that!" she said as she buried her face in his chest.
"I... I love you too much..."

Shoke tightly held Cate close to him, crying as well.
"P-please... don't cry... please stop crying... I'm sorry... I
just... please don't cry Cate..." He said, tears streaming from
his crimson eyes. He was trembling, almost as if he was cold. He
couldn't understand why he felt so strongly about her... was it
her confidence? Her drive to get better? Shoke just didn't
understand why she was crying... all he was doing was explaining
why he couldn't be perfect, it didn't make sense...

Hearing him ask her to stop crying was at least enough to make
her go from sobbing to sniffling. "I just don't want you to talk
to yourself about your imperfections... Please... Focus on the
good things?.." She looked up to his eyes, those shining crimson
eyes, as she wiped her own dry. "I don't want to hear you talk
yourself down... You're better than that..." She hugged him
close, savoring his embrace as she reached for a handkerchief in
her pocket to wipe his tears away. "Please, just... Don't do
that to yourself..."

Shoke just silently nods, hoping that she won't be crying
anymore, and after a moment of silence he finally speaks.
"I... I promise I won't..."

Finally after another short sniffle, Care managed to smile
again. "Thank you," she said simply before she pulled his head
close and kissed him on the lips, holding hers against his for
what could have felt like hours, but was only minutes.
She felt like she could never let go. She didn't want to, but
she had to eventually, and when she pulled herself back, she
pressed her forehead against his, rubbing her nose on his nose.

do to return her to emotional stability.

Emotional stability was the last thing Cate had at the moment.
She kept her forehead pressed against Shoke's as she continued
to cry, although with a smile on her face now, and simply rubbed
her nose against his for a minute... then two... then three...
She was still crying, but eventually she stopped and slumped
against him, nuzzling her head against his chest, mainly because
her toes had begun to hurt from standing on the tip of her feet
for so long and she wasn't tall enough to nuzzle any higher.
Eventually, she took his hands and pulled him towards her,
falling back into the grass. Gently, not harshly; with how soft
the grass was on top of how soft she was herself, this wasn't
really a surprise. Though what mattered was how she kissed him.
On the ground, height didn't matter, and she was taking full
advantage of it as she kissed Shoke deeply and passionately,
that hole in her heart now filled once again. Filled by the love
that she knew she was drenched in. Finally she stopped crying,
and she was somewhat stable in her heart; all thanks to Shoke's
quiet embrace...
