Better Than a Love Story

Cate sat quietly on a park bench, wind breezing lightly through
her turquoise hair. She was blushing madly, because today... she
was going on a date.
Normally she wasn't one for being mushy, but she had been
daydreaming about Shoke all day; the first person to ever call
her cute, the little misfit she was. She tugged at her jumpsuit
for a moment and knocked the heels of her boots together. She
didn't like waiting, but she would wait for him; she had do, she
kept telling herself. It was the first time she felt like there
were butterflies in her pudgy stomach, and it almost made her
squeal; was this love? She didn't know, but it certainly felt
like it. Just a couple more minutes, she told herself, and then
they could go on their date.

She didn't need to wait much longer, as soon Shoke walked up
dressed up all fancily, dress shirt, fancy vest, a tie, he was
even wearing rimless glasses and had trimmed his quills. He
looked almost like a completely different person. However, his
shimmering crimson eyes, yellow fur, and black highlights were
more than enough to verify that this was him. He walked over to
her and held his hand out, offering her help up.
"Sorry I took as long as I did, I needed to pick up my glasses."
He said, smiling warmly with his usual childlike charm.

"Not a problem!" Cate said with a smile; that was Shoke alright.
"Although, if I knew you were going to be all dressed up like
that, I woulda gotten something myself..." She hugged her arm
somewhat nervously; how silly she looked in her jumpsuit,
against his fancy suit and vest, even topped off with a tie and
some trimmed quills. Still, she blushed and took his hand,
standing up and hugging him suddenly; he was such a sweetheart.
Too bad she barely could reach his face to kiss him. "So...
Where are we going?"

Shoke was so happy, he thought he might tear up. But then she
asked where they were going.
"Where we're going? Uh... I was going to ask you... I don't know
my way around this place." He chuckled nervously, blushing
embarrassedly.

Cate blushed bright red herself; neither of them had thought of
what they were doing on their date. "Um... W-we could relax in
the park, o-or... go to a café... W-what do you like to do?" And
this was why she never had a boyfriend; she stammered and
rambled the moment she even laid her eyes on a guy like Shoke.
She was too used to simply daydreaming about going on a date,
she had never actually done it for real. Still, a chance to even
just relax with Shoke felt like a good enough date to her... And
if they needed something to snack on, she could take him to the
café her family ran.

"O-Okay, park it is then I guess, eheh." Cate rubbed the back of
her head nervously as she blushed, but she was smiling. "Just
one moment, I need to run home real quick then."
In that split second, she was off, and in the blink of an eye
she had rounded a corner and was running full speed home to set
up a picnic basket. Only a few short moments later she returned
to Shoke, holding her weaved basket hanging from her arm, filled
with sandwiches, drinks, and chocolates. "All good now; shall we
go?" She held the hedgehog's hand and blushed; maybe it was just
her being short, but to her he seemed like a gentle giant.

Shoke once again just looked at her and smiled.
"As I said, lead the way, Cate~" He chuckled as he began to walk
with her to the park.

Smiling and blushing like a school girl, Cate lead her
'boyfriend' to the Mianan parks, taking him to a spot where the
land split slightly and a stream filtered through, the trees
around blooming vibrantly. As she pulled a clean sheet from the
basket and laid it out close to the water, she also pulled out a
bottle of sparkling juice; she normally kept it for special
occasions, but this was special enough to her. "I hope you like
the sandwiches I made; I didn't think we'd be having a picnic
already, to be honest." She nervously scratched her cheek and
giggled, sitting down with a plop as her stomach grumbled a
little. "Turkey and pepperjack; my favorite," she commented as
she pulled one out and took a bite.

Sitting down next to Cate, Shoke reached in and took a sandwich,
carefully taking a bite. His smile widened.
"It's good. Really good~" He finished the sandwich as he looked
at the scenery and then to Cate.
"Is it a bad thing that we're having a picnic so soon?" He asks,
worriedly.
