       Broken Bonds

(This is meant to explain the events prior to Shoke being
discovered by Natasha, and the events take place then.)
The winter winds were blowing through the tundra with the
ferocity of a mountain lion, and the snow that was picked up
didn't help navigation. A lumbering and cold yellow Lynx dressed
in nothing but a black cloak trudged his way through the snow,
carrying ever onward in hopes of finding shelter, or food, or
even some sort of civilization. Shoke however, was barely even
concentrating on walking forward, in fact, his mind was
elsewhere. He was remembering. Remembering them.
Shoke had recently escaped a secret laboratory where he was
genetically modified to be some sort of super weapon, created,
trained, and programmed with only one purpose: to kill whoever
he was ordered to kill. But he was not the only one...
One hundred and twenty were created in sects of twenty, each
with their own purpose. One through twenty where being made to
be perfect soldiers, twenty-one through forty were being made to
be the perfect engineers, forty-one through sixty were made to
be pilots, sixty-one through eighty were spies. But the last two
sects were different. The last two sects were created with the
intention of creating beings with the ability to manipulate the
two greatest forces that keep the world in balance: Order and
Chaos. Out of the forty clones subjected to the genetic
engineering and tests, thrirty-nine died... and the only success
escaped, carrying the souls and hearts of his lost brethren with
him through the icy tundra. He kept walking, knowing that soon
they would send people to collect him, or worse.
       He couldn't die... not yet.
Over the sound of the winds came the sound of a troop transport.
       They were here.
About seven androids leaped from the open door and surrounded
him, aiming their guns at him. The cowards didn't even come to
collect him themselves. But there was someone else... someone
       watching him... studying him...
Shoke knew that was their commanding officer, but why was he not
       joining the fight...?
"Subject number one-thirteen, you are ordered to stand down and
be returned to the facilities for further testing." One of the
androids commanded. Shoke would not respond with words, but he
would not go back. There was no reason for him to go back...
only reasons not to. He looked up at the android that commanded
him to come with them... and he leaped at it, digging his claws
into the chest of the android and tearing it in two. The
remaining androids immediately began firing upon him, but they
were too slow. Even the most advanced A.I. couldn't keep up with
him, he was trained too well for that...
One by one the androids were dispatched, torn apart by the
ferocity of Shoke's attacks, clawing them, tearing them,
destroying them one by one. He tore the head off of the last one
and picked it up, looking into the robotic face of the machine.
Then, the transport landed. He had nearly forgotten about it,
but it was there. And it was on the ground, and out walked the
       commanding officer...
An orange and black hedgehog with the same crimson red eyes as
Shoke, and he was wearing a heavy duster, a scarf, camouflage
cargo pants, and black combat boots. He walked forward, two guns
in holsters, and on his back a sword. He walked slowly towards
him, hands in his coat pockets. He was smiling... not only
       that... he was chuckling.
"Well well well #113, you certainly were trained well. They
should have realized that sending a squad of bots after one of
us was a foolish notion, no matter how experienced you are. Or
more accurately, aren't." He laughed aloud, the sound echoing
through the frozen tundra, the laugh alone being able to unnerve
a steel wall. Shoke felt something though... an odd... kinship
with this one. Who was this hedgehog?
"Who... who are you?" Shoke asked, his eyes filled with curious
rage. The orange hedgehog just grinned, his single canines sharp
       like fangs.
"What... do you not recognize me? Brother?" He said, grinning
menacingly. Shoke was taken aback by this revelation.
"Br-Brother?! But... that isn't... possible... they told me I
was the only one who survived..." Shoke's wrath turned into
terror, backing slowly away from the orange hedgehog.
"All of our siblings from your sector may have died, but I was
not part of the same sector as you, obviously. My friend, I am
the tenth subject in project S.H.O.K.E., and I have even earned
a name. I am Tennym, but you? You can refer to me by my true
name, #113. My name... is #10." He said, stretching his
shoulders back. Something was wrong, Shoke's nerves were on end.
It was true... they were brothers... The orange hedgehog began
advancing on Shoke, and Shoke panicked, frozen still.
"Now then, to business." he drew one of his pistols, and fired
at Shoke. The shot went straight into his right shoulder.
"It's nothing personal, I assure you, but father would be very
upset to learn you had escaped, and I can tell you aren't
willing to come back with me. Sadly that leaves me with only one
option. Your termination. Oh well, it was fun having a third
brother while it lasted." He began shooting Shoke multiple times
in the body, but never killing him. Shoke was still kicking,
just not moving. The shots he fired, they seemed to be draining
       his energy...
"Still kicking, eh? Well, I'm honestly surprised, but not
disappointed. Tell you what..." Tennym got in close to Shoke and
began to whisper in his ear.
"How about a game? I stab you in a place where the only way
you'll die is blood loss, and if you manage to survive and find
help, you'll be free to go. It'll be our little secret~" Shoke's
       eyes widened.
"Wh-what-" Shoke's statement was cut short with the sound of a
blade entering his lower torso and being removed with great
force and speed. Tennym got up and stretched his shoulders,
turned his back to Shoke and began walking back to the
       transport.
"Well, I hate to leave you hear, but since I'd rather not waste
any more time on you, I'll just let you bleed out into the
snow." He turned his head to Shoke, barely able to focus on him
       through the pain.
"Catch you later, Shoke #113." Tennym got into the transport and
the transport flew off in some direction. Shoke was bleeding
out, he needed to get to safety.
He tore his cloak and wrapped it tightly around his gaping
wound, and began to crawl towards the distance.
He couldn't die here... he couldn't.
       He had to live on...
       He had to survive...
He refused to be just another casualty...
       We would survive.
Hours later, Shoke was losing all hope. Slowly but surely he
       began to doubt himself...
His bleeding and broken body crawled through the harsh
snowstorm, barely holding onto any semblance of life. He
attempted to get up... only to be pulled back down. Tears and
blood streamed down his face as he eventually gave up in moving
       forward.
He was right... no one would come save me...
This may as well be the best possible place to die...
       Maybe... It's better this way...
He collapsed into the snow, unconscious, and soon to be
       discovered by Natasha.
