Favorite Book Characters? (May Contain Spoilers)
By: SynysterMayhem Date: June 23, 2013, 1:36 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Okay, this is basically the same thing as the post in the T.V.
show area, but based on how characters are portrayed in the
books. There are slight differences between the two
counterparts, and I wonder if people's views are altered from
one version to the next. If you'd like to give reasons why, feel
free, but be mindful that some people may not have read all the
books, so don't try to spoil stuff, but if it happens, fair
enough, that's what the warning is for.
1. Sandor "The Hound" Clegane - I liked him right off the bat.
His story is quite interesting thus far, however I am not very
far in the books.
2. Tyrion Lannister - At first I really wasn't a huge fan of
him. I always saw him as a smug prick early on, but after
getting to know his mentality, I find myself rooting for him.
But his book counterpart is nothing compared to Peter Dinklage's
portrayal of him.
3. Arya Stark - She is just such a badass from the get-go. She
didn't want to do girly things, and wanted to learn how to
fight. I think her story will be quite entertaining as time goes
on.
Now let me hear your thoughts, lets get some great discussions
going on here.

It seems that I've grown a habit of rooting for characters that
die...
**Spoiler Alert: End of Book 1, 3, and beyond**
First was Eddard Stark... Then his son, Robb Stark,
then Tywin, then John Snow... For crying out loud, I'm
worshiping R.R. Martin right now for not killing Stannis, at
least yet
**Modified to show to separate the spoiler to the new proper
format. Everything else is intact. -Syn

**Spoiler Alert: Book 1 and onwards.**
Boy. I should have really looked away when it said
Spoilers haha. By the way, for anyone that did not read the
previous post because they ignore spoilers, rather than reading
them like me, HUGE ASS SPOILER. DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T READ
THE BOOKS. But yeah, I don't take it personally, at least it was
rightfully labeled as a spoiler, for that, I thank you. Tywin I
expected. Lord Snow on the other hand... Ah well. I'll live.
Tywin is pretty awesome as well. His portrayal on the show
reminds me of the actor that played Count Dooku from the Star
Wars movies haha.
Tywin is a douche. But a badass douche.
Also, I like Sandor too, if only for his realistic view of the
world, instead of seeing it all nice, and pink, and fluffy.
As to Arya, she's a badass, but I can't say I'm too fond of her
because she's missing on a lot of action on the main front. It's
like her story completely diverges from the whole series. That,
and the fact that it's not a really subtle story arc either.
**Spoiler Alert: Book 2/3 Onwards**
Nobody expected John. And his fate is kinda ambiguous.
Knowing Martin though... That just means he's giving us hope to
kill in the next book. And Robb, depending on how far into the
books you are, gets predictable, he starts making many mistakes.
Never lost a battle, yet he lost the war. Tywin's death was not
as predictable though, but still, demonstrates the unofficial
motto of the series. Everyone dies.
**Yet again, just hiding spoilers. -Syn

I see. Interesting. From now on when I see spoiler I am going to
consciously force myself not to read on, no matter how badly I
may want to. I now know of 3 characters that will die, that have
not yet died in either book (At least at my current point) nor
television. At least I do not know how or when. Maybe we should
start labeling our spoilers as such:
**Spoiler Alert: Book (1/2/3/4/5/etc)**
Or in the Amphitheater:
**Spoiler Alert: Season (1/2/3/etc)**
It might make conversations a bit easier. Maybe Seeroy can look
into including this idea as a sticky post in both venues. I
think it'll help with conversations, without some people getting
spoilers. I personally don't care that deeply, but I know others
would be quite upset.

There are...
spoiler tabs
too, but I can't figure out how to add a button for these to the
WYSIWYG editor

Right now there is nothing on the chat window to do it. If you
flag it, as it is outlined in the thread outside of the Library
or Amphitheater, I will implement it. Next time you can go to
the Question Corner for posting questions.

I've become a huge fan of Catelyn Stark, as of halfway through
ASoS. She's not your typical Strong Female Character like
Brienne or Arya, but she doesn't take any crap from anyone. This
is shown even more in the books than in the TV show, I think.

I've read the books last summer in one long reading frenzy, but
I hope I don't reveal anything to anyone not yet this far... :)
My favourite characters are:
[li]Catelyn Stark, because she would do anything to get her
family back.
Tyrion Lannister, because of his way of dealing with the
treatment he gets. He knows he short and he doesn't hide. I love
his sarcasm and pragmatism, he knows how to solve problems as
shown when being HotK... [/li]
[li]And with the later books, I also started to like Jaime
Lannister, because of his changed attitude towards others... Or
just for the fact that he let his golden armour fall and show
more of who he really is.[/li]
[li]...and Jon Snow, because even though he is sometimes a bit
whimpy, he knows what's at stake and acts accordingly...[/li]
