moved along and stopped at one of the outdoor stalls and waited
while a few completed their business with the vendor. Looking
down I noticed the same little girl which I had seen a few hands
ago. A slow smile crept upon my face as I recalled her from our
last encounter. I inwardly wondered who her mother was in the
village, but dismissed the thought as I saw her carrying two
baskets around her arm. I was glad to see that somehow in this
harsh winter her family was still managing. I said nothing about
our previous meeting. After the people disbursed, I nodded to
the vendor and greeted him. I could tell by his appearance he
was doing quite well here.

After I struck up some light conversation regarding sales and
keeping the outdoor stall in good condition, I informed him that
it was time again for the payment of the rental on the stall. I
inquired if there were any issues that I needed to see to and he
offered no problems. He pulled out the small box of coins and
then withdrew the one silver and offered it to me. I gently
withdrew it and dropped it to the purse for Drake. I offered my
thanks for payment. Assuring him he could come to me or any of
the market guards with issues and then after our business was
completed, I moved along flanked by Sorak, towards another of
the stalls....

moving again towards one of the more crowded stalls, I stand
just abit back while listening to the conversation taking place.
I nod to Sorak, seeing his interest in the conversation as well.
I make no move to alert him that I am in any hurry, and with
that, he moves in closer. I see a smirk grow on his face from
where I stand and I casually allow myself to enjoy the cold and
the noise for just once.

Stood trying to not shiver uncontrollably in this climate. Still
trying to get accustomed to the iciness of the keep and inlet. I
leaned in abit and tried to catch the small bits of conversation
that billowed towards me. All I could really make out were small
fragments of the ships, and the complaints of the pay amount of
the oar makers. I inwardly wondered how much they made but
decided that another time would be more easier to inquire at
another juncture. I remained sort of contemplative yet in an
alert state of mind.

Finally after breaking from my pensive state I looked up and
watched on as Sorak roared with laughter. I could only assume
that it was pleasurable talk that he was consumed in. I smiled
only in part because it was not often that I had the pleasure of
catching Sorak smile. I noted his expressionless visage many
times and wondered what made the wheels turn...so to speak. I
moved towards the neighboring stall and could easily tell from
the crates and boxes that his supply was not diminishing as he
had last confessed to me. I was no longer concerned that
villagers would purchase from him. I struck up conversation
again in a polite fashion and listened as he confessed of the
problems he had with warmth and the coverings. I assured him
that I would have the outer layer re-done if need be to ensure
that he could continue to rent the stall. After this business
was completed, I reminded him of the rental fee. He soon took
out the one silver and dropped it to my waiting hand. I again,
deposited the coin to the purse for Drake and after our
departing comments, moved again to walk alone along the stalls.

-Inside the Office-

turned quickly upon hearing the heavy footsteps to my right ,
smiling as I saw Sorak approach. I nodded to him, which was
indicative that for the moment I would no longer require him. I
moved to the doorway of my office to deposit the coins and write
down which stalls had paid. Watching as he left, I moved inside
the office to light the lamp and settle in for some work and
studying. I had much to do and little time to squander.
