       X (X/1999)

X (X/1999 in America) is one of CLAMP's most famous works before
the creation of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles.
The plot centers on Kamui Shiro, a teenage esper that is
destined to determine the Earth's future on the 'Fated Day' in
1999 by deciding to become the Dragons of Heaven (the ones who
wish to save humanity) or the Dragons of Earth (the ones that
wish the Earth to be cleansed of human's damage). And his
decision leads the wheel of fate for the armageddon between the
two sides. The ones who win shall have their whim granted.
(Sorry I can't explain much more without giving spoilers)
It is basically a shounen series that mingles with shoujo
themes. I won't lie, there is yoai but it also matches higurashi
with it's violence--seriously decapitation, organs, and blood
are completely normal. But, it does raise the question of the
actions of humans to the Earth and the thing known as 'fate'.
There has been OVAs, video game, movie (I beg you never watch
it!), and anime. Though all of these have been completed, they
       have different endings.
Oh did I forget to mention, the series is imcomplete? Social
issues involving the earthquakes of 1995 and a gruesome murder
involving decapitation, and being kicked off the magazine it was
featured in has lead to a seven year hiatus. However, the
characters have never been forgotten as many make appearances in
       Tsubasa.
