       Effectiveness of Global Warming Campaigns

I was just reading this article
       (
  HTML http://www.mnn.com/lifestyle/arts-culture/blogs/celebrities-launch-global-warming-i-am-campaign),<br
/>that talks about the launch of the global warming 'I Am'
campaign. Celebrities (mostly from Hollywood) are supporting the
campaign, that hopes to get people involved by submitting a
photo of themselves "with a sign of the city or community they
love that is threatened by global warming due to sea level rise,
floods, droughts or more severe storms." All entries will be
displayed on the Global Green USA site — with one lucky winner
getting the chance to walk the green carpet during the
       organization's annual pre-Oscar Party.
Personally I feel that such attempts to raise awareness about
global warming are commendable, but alot of times the
endorsement of these campaigns by celebrities and personable
figures can be more futile than productive. Celebrities endorse
brand upon brand, cause upon cause to the point that there is
some sort of compassion fatigue that consumers feel toward them.
It is difficult for me to point out which celebrity is being
genuine when lobbying for a cause, or if they are tagging onto
the cause for publicity like a company would in its CSR efforts
(not always, but often). I think that awareness about global
warming is rather sufficient, or saturated even. The next step
lies in evoking action, which starts from the intimate realm of
a home, than the glitz of the public arena and prominent actors
       in it.
