I think one way is to use the "Off" Switch. Save electricity and
reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a
room, and using only as much light as you need. And remember to
turn off your television, video player, stereo and computer when
you're not using them. It's also a good idea to turn off the
water when you're not using it. While brushing your teeth,
shampooing the dog or washing your car, turn off the water until
you actually need it for rinsing. You'll reduce your water bill
and help to conserve a vital resource.
Another way is to use less heat and air conditioning. Adding
insulation to your walls and attic, and installing weather
stripping or caulking around doors and windows can lower your
heating costs more than 25 percent, by reducing the amount of
energy you need to heat and cool your home. Turn down the heat
while you're sleeping at night or away during the day, and keep
temperatures moderate at all times. Setting your thermostat just
2 degrees lower in winter and higher in summer could save about
2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year. :)

Great ideas, jkiingo! I'm guilty of using too much air
conditioning especially when it gets too hot and humid in
Singapore! I'm surprised that just by turning the temperature up
by 2 degrees can make such a big difference. :)
Personally, I think one that we forget the most is leaving on
our charger (when we charge our laptops, or phones especially)
throughout the night. This wastes a lot of electricity.
Sometimes, we plug in the charger 24/7 so as to always have a
100% battery life. I'm starting to change that habit now :)

Thanks jkiingo! i think we sometimes tend to forget that
electricity is generated with the burning of coal, which is a
major contributor to global warming. the more electricity used,
the more coal is burned to generate that amount of electricity.
unfortunately, certain appliances like fridges are necessary but
aircons are not. perhaps i should stop using my aircon haha

Less use of cars and private transport but instead using
       MRTS,busses.
Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides saving petrol,
walking and biking are great forms of exercise. People can
resort to using public transport or car pooling. Especially when
Singapore has such an advanced transport system(although i
confess it is susceptible to failure on the odd occassion)
Effort should be made to ensure the car is also running
efficiently. For eg,tires shoudl be properly inflated as this
can apparently improve mileage by a significant portion.

Majority of the causes of global warming I believe comes from
large organisations and corporations, and these are the people
whom we should really target to mitigate global warming as they
are both the cause and have the means to rectify it.
There has been companies set up to mitigate these issues, ie
consultancy firms to help companies reduce their carbon
emissions, use more energy conserving efforts during their
course of operations and work, and that will definitely help a
lot. I think much effort has been done to carry this out.

some daily things we can do!
       Ditch the Plastic
Plastic bottles are biodegradable and can sit in landfills for
over 200 years! With 2.5 million plastic water bottles thrown
away every hour in the U.S., it is best to start using a
       reusable water bottle.
       Take Shorter Showers
Did you know that showers account for 2/3 of all water heating
costs? We know—it’s shocking. Cut your showers short and save
$99 and 350 lbs. of CO2 per year.
       Carpool When You Can
With gas prices burning a hole in everyone’s wallet, save some
cash while saving 790 lbs. of CO2 by carpooling. If your car is
too small to fit all of your BFFs then commute or ride your
       bike.
       Reduce Garbage
Recycle paper, plastic and glass, and buy products with less
packaging. This can save 1,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide a year.
       cheers

On a larger scale, I do believe that one of the solutions to
global warming lies in green architecture. By green
architecture, I am not referring to those huge glass
skyscrapers, which requires a ridiculous amount of
air-conditioning, but installs a 'green wall' or photo-voltaic
cells and then brands itself as green. Research has shown that
buildings are responsible for half of all greenhouse emissions
worldwide. Research has also shown that through sensitive and
careful design and engineering, these building loads can be
greatly reduced. However the downside is the higher initial
costs of construction which the developers of the building might
       not fancy much.
There is hence a need to push for the viability and need for
green architecture, because this is clearly one of the solutions
that can have a huge impact on the problem of global warming, if
       done extensively enough.
