[glow=red,2,300]Stupid is as stupid does.[/glow]
Losses to others without benefit to self.
variables:
1 benefit or loss to others
2 benefit or loss to self
social interactions
loss to self and loss to others : stupid
benefit to self loss to others : bandits
benefit to others loss to self : helpless
benefit to self and others : intelligent and smart
Uncorrelated with all standard measures of intelligence.
Behavior is systemic and not one off.
People underestimate the danger of stupidity.
Stupid people are the most dangerous people on the planet.
Worse than bandits.
The stupid are unpredictable.
They can't be taught. The stupid are always with us.
[shadow=grey, left]When the intelligent defect to being helpless
or a bandit, societies collapse because bandits and the helpless
fail to manage the stupid.[/shadow]
There should be a way to make a computer simulation or computer
game out of this so the collapse supposition can be tested.

This latest one is very good.
"President Putin 's complete sentence at the Valdai Club
conference: "Furthermore, a number of countries and even entire
regions are regularly hit by food crises. We will probably
discuss this later, but there is every reason to believe that
this crisis will become worse in the near future and may reach
extreme forms."

When I made the list of the Top 5 problems facing humanity, I
did not include Stupidity. It is of course the #1 problem we
face, but it is thoroughly insoluble. So I am not sure how
producttive it is to complain about it.
There is no Vaxx to provide immunity from Stupidity. There are
no Drug Therapies to remediate the problem. Even High IQ people
can be incredibly stupid. Actually, they are stupider than
stupid people. lol. If you are in favor of Democracy, you are
really in trouble. Stupid people always swamp out smart people
in any election.
You can't even just eliminate stupid people, because stupid
people will maintain smart people are the stupid ones, and they
are in the majority. If you're smart, you're a member of the
world's most oppressed minority. lol.
As the population of Homo Saps dwindles, will more stupid people
than smart people dieoff? Will Natural Selection work to
develop a new Species of Homo Brilliantus? Unknown. Won''t
happen anytime soon though if it does.
When you are in the minority and surrounded by stupid people, it
can be frustrating. It's a problem you can't fix though, so why
worry about it?
You can't fix stupid.

Socrates indeed. I wrote something to the effect of that first
sentence in response to someone else advocating the idea that
you "label first, and only talk to those who agree with you".
Echo chambers for everyone! If they happen to be of folks who
have all the answers, and they agree with me, the more the

The problem exists even if it is trying to get only one other
person to co-operate. I have maintained for a long time that it
is of no value being far sighted, if other people you rely on
only get it when they see it happen.

Perhaps these definitions are too simple - but for the sake of
the discussion let's assume that these definitions of stupid are
valid. Also, for the sake of this discussion, let us assume
that we are in the early stages of collapse. (Then we we don't
have to get bogged in the argument of whether collapse is
happening and real or not)
In the scenario of trending and accelerating collapse we of
course will see a decline in human population globally. Several
of you obviously think stupidity is the meta problem now. So,
in a collapse scenario will the percentage of stupid people in
the smaller general population drop? Will the percentage of
bandits increase? Given the 4 types, it seems obvious that the
percentage of helpless people will decline - but I might be
missing something counterintuitive here. I'm thinking of the
result after a severe decline. Something we would all recognize
as collapse. Another way to ask the question is: Has
civilization, by caring for the weak and stupid (to some degree)
increased the percentage of stupid people or do you think the
portion of the stupid stays fairly constant?
I think we need to remember that if you believe the majority of
people are stupid you need to concede that stupid people have
accomplished some big things like the new deal and the victory
in WW2, all the really big projects we can think of. How is it
that the stupid were not taken out by the rigors of evolution if
they were so damn stupid? Like lefties, the colorblind and
profoundly bald, there has to be reason why they are still here.
So then you get into issues of "leadership" and control and
suddenly I'm off in the woods by myself again, peering out at
you all through the leaves, with trepidation.
