       Any time there is an indication of the economy failing,
       companies stop innovating and circle their wagons.  Production
       targets for stuff already made are rolled back to anticipate
       fewer sales.  Companies don't put money into new product
       development in these circumstances.  Employees get the can.
       Tech gets hammered every time.

       I'm glad you asked. Ok let's be scientific here since I went to
       the same science high school as RE.
       The current events we are seeing now are so dissimilar from the
       values and beliefs of the vast majority of people that they can
       be explained only by the imposition of a very powerful minority.
       Don't forget that aristocracy was the most prevalent form of
       government throughout history. Personally, I believe that the
       Age of Enlightenment followed the Scientific Revolution only
       because they wanted to farm the people for scientific knowledge
       and technology. And oh my have they reaped a bountiful harvest
       and probably believe they can get the rest of the knowledge
       using AI or some sort of other technology to enhance human
       intelligence. They don't need most of us now.
       Who exactly these people are I do not know but there are some
       very likely candidates.

       Most people are useless eaters.  They may be drones in the
       industrial machine but contributing to change, no.  Useless
       consumers we are 100 to 1.
