I posit Roubini is full of ****. Ukraine is happening because
of MAIDAN 2014 and failure to honor and implement the Minsk
agreements. Saying it is part of a bigger picture is all
intellectual and cool, but it is also a sack of ****.
China taking over Taiwan only means America is kicked out and
the CCP moves in. It would be a Hong Kong situation that in the
greater scheme of things means nothing.

That was a long ass read. The author does go on.
So Peter and his neighbor David are both smart people. That is
great. Both are on the top of a hill. Kumbayah, What about the
mountain?
Peter, it does not matter if Red or Blue prevail. Both use
fossil fuels. Both will die. Collapse is collapse.
Civil war talk drives me bananas. Anybody who tries to start a
civil war is just going to be told to fuck themselves. Where
does the blue army shop for supplies when the battles start.
Where does the red army shop. Do they stay in separate motels?
Where do they both gas up? Oh, gas is gone and store shelves
are empty. An American civil war between chihuahua lap dog
consumers. Civil war is for wolves. And what is to win. There
is no prize.

I came to the conclusion the story was contrived. They had
previously only exchanged pleasantries in the elevator, but he
knew all the guys political perspective and even had his email.
In the end the outing ends with the trump supporter saying trump
shouldn't run again, because he had gone after dead war vet
McCain. McCain was alive and running against him at the time.
Then saying something unspecified to suburban women on covid.
Whatever he said on the subject was directed at everyone,
nothing gender specific or especially to city women. That just
smacks of his belief system placing higher value on women and
thinking it is only terrible to say to women and men don't
matter. Maybe deplorable rural women are unimportant and
unvalued too. In any case the trump supporter neighbour is
unlikely to only find something offensive for suburban women.
That's the kind of attitude responsible for the division.
He says BLM and #metoo are examples of everyone coming together
to give him hope. I'm afraid that again, those are things that
people are divided over.
You have a strong argument though, people can only battle it out
at demonstration and counterdemonstration if they bother to get
off their ass and go. Few do, so nothing too serious is likely
to happen.
