Thousands rally in central Iran to protest water shortages
By: RE Date: November 19, 2021, 11:06 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
This kind of protest is seriously stupid. Like Da goobermint
can control how much rain falls each year? ::)
They can control how much a given neighborhood gets allocated,
but if there is an overall shortage, somebody is gonna get
shorted. It's a game of musical chairs.
There could undoubtably be better conservation methods, but that
requires infrastructure that costs money and takes time to
build. Time and money they mostly don't got.
You can protest the problem until you are blue in the face, but
until the raindrops start falling, you're focked. Then when
they do fall, it comes in buckets and washes away your topsoil.
       Focked again!

On the upside, at least you won't have to sit idling your car
for 15 minutes to pickup your Big Mac at the takeout window. :)
A cup of ice may still be available though for $10. So this is
       not collapse.  ::)

It's not that unusual for a golf ball size hail storm to hit ONE
city, maybe about once a decade. For it to cover 4 states is
nuts. Too much rain everywhere except the north is also not
normal, normally a wet east means a dry west and vice versa.

A North Pole farm family, a struggling Palmer slaughterhouse and
a step toward Alaska’s food security

Last of the Last Great Frontier commercial slaughter houses. We
lost our last Dairy a few years ago.
Still quite a few people around though who can cut up a carcass,
just they're not licensed by the USDA and the meat can't be
legally sold commercially. You probably can trade a pound of
Ganja (legal) for a few pounds of fillet or ribeye though, if
       you grow that. ;D

3 Bears meat fridge was doing better today with the carcasses
barged in from WA. I bought a cheaper cut, Tri Tip instead of
my usual fillet and cooked it Sous Vide for a few hours. You
just cannot beat Sous Vide for cooking any meat. You might even
be able to make Armadillo appetizing. lol. Next week I will
try Sous Viding some Salmon. I haven't done any fish this way
yet. I think I will Sous Vide in a Dill/Garlic/Lime Butter
sauce for around 2 hours at 115F, then qu8ickly sear it to crisp
       the skin.
Hopefully I can eat at least a few mouthfuls before the nausea
sets in. I actually did make it through my Hungry Man Turkey TV
Dinner on Thanksgiving, although it took all day to accomplish
       this task.

I have not bought a sous vide yet...
Loss of slaughter facilities is a big blow to an area. Where we
were the nearest one was 90 minutes away so all the local
producers had a hard time. The New place has 3 of them within
about a half hour due to density of producers. I can just
imagine what transport times are like in Alaska. The good part
is that you do still have a large hunting population used to
dressing carcasses so come a crisis there is some solutions.
That doesn't help the grocery stores any though. Can a local
butcher still age and cut the meat if it's already slaughtered?
Not for resale but for locals? That is how the local hunters do
it here mostly. Hope you get through that cut of meat.

The Restaurant at the End of the End of the Begining of the End
       of the Begining
By: RE Date: November 29, 2021, 10:53 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Douglas Adams wrote a novel called "The Restaurant at the End of
the Universe" as a sequel to his "Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy" quite a while back, so I had to come up with a Title
       with more Finality. lol.
This is another stupid measure of collapse for a life long
epicure, which basically states if you can't find a restaurant
worth eating at within 20 miles of your home, your world has
collapsed. My world has officially collapsed. Tokyo, the only
restaurant in the Mat Valley with decent (not great though) food
has changed ownership, and the meal I had there last week
positively SUCKED, besides being ridiculously over priced. They
even had the gall to drop a "Tokyo Boat" menu item on for $130!
Hopefully this cornucopia of dogshyt feeds at least 4 people,
but I didn't order it so I don't know for sure on that menu
       item.
How do I determine a restaurant sucks? If I can cook up the
same meal for less than 1/2 the price and it tastes as good or
better, it sucks. That is buying the ingredients at retail
prices, higher than the wholesale prices the restaurant
generally pays. The restaurant does need a 100% markup usually
to cover their staffing costs. If they are also understaffed
though, I am not agreeable to a 100% markup.
Hopefully in your neighborhood there are still some decent
restaurants with good food, good staffing and a pleasant
atmosphere that don't suck. Hopefully you can still afford to
go to them, and you are allowed to remove your mask to take a
       bite of the food also.
Not the case here in the Mat Valley though. My Restaurant life
       has officially collapsed.
