The long term (18months to 3 years)implications of the
devastating US drought on The Australian beef industry.

Right now the market is being flooded by US producers who can't
feed their cattle. That comes back as a shortage about a year
and a half from now.

The article exposed the soft underbelly of the American Dream.
“And it is very competitive. I noticed on one processing
plant’s staff canteen notice board a reference to minimum wage
of US $8.50 an hour. They have a huge advantage over us in
labour cost, and when you combined that with a high quality,
consistent grainfed product, which is increasingly in demand on
the world stage, it is very hard for Australia to compete at
present.”
I hope to hell a Tyson employee is not actually making $8.50 an
hour. The sign was likely about a legal minimum which is so old
it should have a picture of a dead president like Nixon pasted
next to it.
$8.50 an hour was so ten years ago. Warm bodies from the
trailer park get at least $12 an hour now.
