Crazy, now lock-downs do more harm than good. This becomes
obvious.
Seattle is schizophrenic.

I see people masked driving alone in their cars or walking along
the shoulder of the road. Alone and masked up. Then I go into
a store and most people are bare-faced.
I go to a bookstore. (Seattle still has a few). A sign says in
a kind way I forget, to put on a mask in our store. I go back
to my car and get my mask. Then I had a great time looking at
books.
I'm convinced that when some people get COVID the only symptom
they show is to be crazy as a loon.

I prefer the bookstore policy but I am comfortable being casual.
If a surge hits Seattle I will wear the mask more. IMHO high
mask compliance could wipe COVID out. Except that in the card
deck of humanity we have a lot of jokers.

Some of the people still masked alone in the car or walking
alone are genuinely afraid of virus surviving and floating in
the wind through their vents. Others do it as a form of
asceticism, denying and 'crucifying the flesh' like fasting or
flagellation. For them, there is superiority over more plebeian
peasants in their sacrifice and suffering. Also the external
symbol of belonging to a great and good collective is something
they don't want to give up wearing.
If we believe the content of the above article, it pretty well
confirms that food shortages are a big reason for the Chinese
lockdown. The govt would have to be aware that aside from all
the other impacts, it makes themselves unpopular and squanders
the national pride they built by lifting a billion people out of
poverty and restoring status to what it was prior to the Century
Of Humiliation.

US winter wheat forecast is significantly down from last year.
HTML https://www.world-grain.com/articles/16899-us-winter-wheat-production-down-8-in-2022
WASHINGTON, DC, US — In the first survey-based projection of the
2022 crop, the US Department of Agriculture in its May 12 Crop
Production report forecast winter wheat production in 2022 at
1.173 billion bushels, down 103.818 million, or 8%, from 1.277
billion bushels in 2021.
The USDA winter wheat forecast was based on harvested area
projected at 24.499 million acres, down 965,000 acres, or 4%,
from 25.464 million acres in 2021, and an average yield forecast
of 47.9 bushels an acre, down from 50.2 bushels an acre in 2021.

Projected US winter wheat abandonment in 2022 of 28%, if
realized, would be the highest since 2002, the USDA said, and
factors in dry conditions in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and
Texas.
The USDA forecast hard red winter wheat production in 2022 at
590.037 million bushels, down 21% from 749.489 million bushels
in 2021.

Afghanistan is fucked.
High acute food insecurity persists across Afghanistan,

depriving nearly 20 million Afghans of food, classified in
Crisis or Emergency (IPC Phases 3 or 4), between March and May
2022 (the lean season), latest data shows. Among these are about
6.6 million people in Emergency (IPC Phase 4) and 13 million in
Crisis (IPC Phase 3). A significant amount of Humanitarian
Food Assistance (HFA) was provided, easing the food crisis for
the most affected households. However, Afghanistan’s food
security situation remains highly concerning, exacerbated by
economic decline and high food prices. The economy is in free
fall and food and fuel prices are rising, depriving the Afghan
people of food. The country is also in the grip of one of the
worst droughts in decades, curtailing food production. High
levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 or above) are
observed in rural and urban Afghanistan. There is a need for
urgent lifesaving support to prevent Catastrophic levels of
acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 5) and livelihood assistance to
help households recover.
Normally they don't export much. Before the heatwave
expectations had been for a bumper crop. Plans were to replace
some of the lost Ukraine wheat with Indian wheat.

Global buyers were banking on supplies from the world's
second-biggest wheat producer after exports from the Black Sea
region plunged following Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine.
Before the ban, India had aimed to ship a record 10 million
tonnes this year. "
Amount: 1 slice of BREAD,WHEAT

Invert that to give 34 slices of bread per kilogram. Slices for
a big loaf say 18 inches long. 18,000 inches for a long loaf
using a Tonne of wheat. 10 megatons is 180,000,000,000 inches
or a loaf of bread 2,840,909 miles long. A loaf of bread going
to the moon and back five times if I have this right.
