It seems if you live in a freezing climate and park outside, you
get half the range and half the life of the battery with any EV.

Of course. That is standard battery chemistry. Range is also
reduced while driving the EV in cold weather, since you have to
heat the interior. Unlike an ICE which uses waste heat from the
radiator, the batts have to run electric heaters. Clearly, they
are not a great choice for Alaska. lol. Or Minnesota or the
       Dakotas, Alberta, Saskatchewan etc.
Even starter batts on ICE carz have a reduced lifespan, but at
least they only cost around $160 right now. $22,000 every 3
years is a pretty hefty maintenance cost.

Only someone with enough money for a Tesla would blow one up...
1st generation EVs like a 2013 Tesla had problems with cold. The
newer ones still require a heated space or they will drain their
batteries keeping themselves warm. They can go into hibernation
mode though but the battery cannot be charged when cold. Sounds
like the dude needed a better mechanic. The first ICE vehicles
had to be driven in reverse up hills so they did not run out of
       fuel...

I certainly don't feel sorry for any Tesla owners.
The problem with needing a heated garage is you have one at
home, but most places you go only have parking lots. Usually
without plug in outlets. Definitely not a car you want to go
       out hunting in.

The base price was 70K and a 20K repair bill would have left him
with a car worth significantly more than 20K.
I looked and a used 2013 is for sale at 38K now.

       The Dimming Bulb 2

If you recall back to the Diner, I wrote a series of articles
with the Dimming Bulb title. This was tracking the electrical
brownouts and blackouts of the time. This phenomenon has been
steadily on the increase in the years since. Here are a few of
       today's stories.

All sorts of reasons for this, climate and weather problems as

Currently, there is no real good way to measure this globally.

Blackout progression predicted back in the 90s.

We are more or less on track here as the Bulb dims.
Now, how could we more acurately track the Dimming Bulb of
Planet Earth? With the sattelites which photograph the earth at
       night.

According to Duncan, we went off the cliff nearly a decade ago.
Discredited theories are...you know...discredited by time and
definition of the author themselves in this case.
Even more amusingly in this case, the Diner came alive in the
midst of the collapse of civilization, and died before any of
the said collapse has even managed to cause a population drop,
or lack of ice, let alone disturb the rich, stop colleges from
educating, or keep everyone here alive and mostly well that
       entire time.

Except for the ice, population growth, Duncan couldn't use his
idea to predict for dick, and the only thing that collapsed
during the invisible collapse he claimed was the Diner. And SUN.

Those headlines are not even currently happening temporary
outages and the overall world bulb has been brightening over the
past decade. Billions of people who did have unreliable
electricity and regular outages, now have the same service we
       have taken for granted.
That does not mean the growth in generation and consumption is
sustainable, but pointing to Texas going out for a few days
almost a year ago and Iran joining its allies in clamping down
on crypto mining do not point to any significant slice of world
electric output being offline at one time, even temporarily.
I couldn't download the graph of India's consumption from wiki,
but it's gone from 422 in 2002 to 639 in 2014, the last year
available. That's about 30% more in only 12 years, Africa and
Asia would be similar. In what we call the developed world,
blackouts here and there have not even become regular.
The electric grid is necessary for the control grid, plans are
to keep consumption in line with capacity, sustainably.
Following obituaries and excess death over time is going to show
something, because those outages really are permanent.
