Cost all along the food suplly chain are seeing similar
increases. Transportation costs, processing costs, labor costs
all rapidly rising. I think you can count on hyperinflation of
food prices for at least the next year.
This will of course hit the 3rd World much harder, because food
consumes more of the weekly budget there than here. I suspect
Food Riots will not be far off as Billions of poor people are
priced out of the food market.
I am not worried. My appetite is so small I barely can eat a
sandwich in a day. I can live on Peanut Butter sandwiches, I
proved that for 7 months in the Gulag. I have a LOT of Peanut
Butter. It stores very well.
Here in the FSoA, 90% of the population needs to go on a diet
anyhow. The Fatties can live off their own lard for at least 6
months, like hibernating Bears.
On that note, while trying unsuccesfully to sit through a video
on Tubi, a commercial for a fashion company came on featuring a
bunch of Fat Girls along with some skinnier ones dancing in the
street. Sizes up to 30 now available!!! lol. Fat Cows can be
sexy too!!!

Power Outage on the Last Great Frontier
By: RE Date: October 31, 2021, 5:53 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Big Windstorm today here in the Mat Valley. My PCA left around
5PM, and after smoking a couple of cancerettes out on my windy
porch, I retired to my trusty recliner for a nap and some
meditating. When I awakened about 3 hours later needing to
pyss, I hit the button on the control to sit back up, and NADA.
Like when you turn the key on your car ignition and the batt is
totally DEAD. This was not supposed to happen.
First off, I envisioned this scenario after first using the
chair and dropping the control off the side. I struggled
mightily to reach it, and finally, thankfully was able to
retrieve it. So this episode was only about a half hour long
panic, and thankfully I did not have to shyt at the time. I
don't have all my backup electrics in place I had in the old
digs, they are all buried somewhere in the storage ConEx. Maybe
I'll get them dug out eventually, but in the meantime I went
to Wally World and picked up an emergency power supply which you
plug into the wall, and plug the chair into that. I tested it
at the time by unplugging from the wall, and it worked.
However, here on the very first power outage since I moved here
from the Gulag, it failed. More Chinese junk.
This time, I was able to yank my crippled self out of the
recliner and onto my wheelchair after only a minor struggle, so
I was SAFE! I could now roll myself to the toilet if I needed
to excrete and wash some minersls out to sea through the
plumbing system. However, I still had a whole night ahead of me
before my PCA returns at noon tomorrow, and trying to sleep in a
wheelchair is not real fun.
Next up, I tried calling the power company MEA to report the
outage and hopefully get it fixed quicker.. I tried using the
App on my phone after downloading it, but I needed my acct
number, which I don't know. I was however able to report it
on the phone, with an automated system. No live person on the
other end, Press 1 to do this, 2 to do that, etc.
Having done my civic duty reporting this outage, I sat in my
wheelchair contemplating the long night still ahead of me. Then
I noticed something. There was some light coming in from outside
the living room window. I rolled myself over to the porch door,
and the lights on the carports outside were ON! Then I opened
the door to the hallway, and those lights were on also! AHA,
think! We have Solar Panels on the roof! They must have a
Backup that provides power to some circuits, but not others.
But then I hear the compressor on my fridge flip on, and yes the
light goes on when I open the door. At least I won't lose
my latest collection of frozen foods and meat in there,
including the Mooseburger generously donated to me by a local
hunter. This is smart I say, refrigerators are relatively low
in draw, and a small solar power array can back those up. But
then I check the electric stove, and it also works! No way this
power supply could possibly provide enough backup for all these
apartments. A single family dwelling, maybe. But not 50
apartments each with an electric stove.
Finally, the LIGHTBULB goes off in my brain, this outage is
REALLY local, like just a couple of rooms in the digs. The
circuit breakers must have tripped! So now I start pushing the
wheels around the digs to find the breaker box. Yea, I know,
Mr. Prepper should have done that first thing after moving in,
but I didn't. Sure enough, a couple of breakers had tripped
in the living room and bathroom. Flick them back on, POOF I got
JUICE again! Yea! The recliner works again! So does the
Computer. I dodged another life threatening bullet! lol. There
must have been a power surge that tripped a couple of breakers.
However simple as this problem was, it does demonstrate how
dependent we all are on the steady flow of electrons,
particularly us cripples and old folks who depend on various
electrically powered devices to keep them at least mobile, if
not just still breathing. Oxygen concentrators, sleep apnea
devices, lift chairs, electric wheelchairs and scooters...half
the residents of this warehouse for the dying have these
devices. Lose power for more than a day or two, you will have a
lot of dead people to refertilize the lawn with.
Down in the lower 48 tonight, there are 100's of 1000s
without power all across the county, mainly due to a series of
storms that have been rolling through on the coasts, but also in
the midwest. This has become a nearly daily occurence, even
here in the belly of the beast, not just the 3rd World. In
places like Puerto Rico and NOLA loaded with poor people, the
outages go for weeks and months. The blackouts are already
here, and they are rapidly increasing in scope, frequency and
duration.
On the upside for me, I now know I CAN extricate myself from my
electrically powered recliner/lift chair if I have to, without
the power assist. For how much longer I do not know, because
the deterioration of my nervous system and muscle mass
progresses along steadily. On the downside, I don't know
what, if anything the Solar Panels on the roof of this complex
actually DO. I also need a better personal power backup than
the piece of shyt power supply that I bought at Walmart.

Did you try plugging the UPS back in? The breaker could have
been blown for a while and you were works bg on battery longer
then you knew... Just a thought.

Jeez, RE. Glad you made it through that okay. I know you don't
really know anyone in your building, but it would be really good
to have a number to call in a situation like that. I understand
you really don't want to spend the night in the chair and I
understand the frustration of losing strength. It sucks. But,
being a gnarly old codger, I expect ( and hope ) you will be
around for a while. Good on you for being resourceful and
figuring things out.
Yup, you need more auxiliary power. (and a young beautiful
assistant, as long as we're asking)
Your take on the big picture is accurate. Outages are becoming
more frequent globally. Extreme weather and fuel shortages, a
touch of geo-political blackmail, lack of some key components
and voila'.

A cute young PCA would be nice. :) There were a couple like
that at the Gulag. Before I left I offered them the opportunity
to come work for me. Sadly, neither took the offer. :( So far
all I have been sent by the agency are fat ugly girls and one
fat ugly guy. lol.
Improving my electrical resilience is tough. In the old place
while I still had both legs I had to move around and do some
re-plugging to get things going. Can't really do that now,
especially if in the recliner. So it has to automatically
switch over. A UPS is SUPPOSED to do that.
I replugged it after the outage and gave it a day to charge the
batt, and tested it again today. NADA. Either the batt is dead
or there is something wrong with the charging circuitry. I will
attempt returning it to Wally World.
Many people have no clue where the breaker box is, or what to
look for if they do. Old folks often still don't have all their
marbles even if they once knew this stuff. It's a minor problem
for healthy folks who know what to do, but quite life
threatening if you are either mentally or physically unable to
do it.
As you mention, the electrical issue is not just about the
fossil fuels availability, many other factors are involved.
Labor shortage is a big problem. How many linemen do you have
available to restring the downed power lines? How often do the
storms or wildfires hit, and over how large an area? How many
spare transformers do you have for blown substations? Where are
they manufactured? How long to get more shipped from China?
etc.
I wrote a whole series of articles on the Diner called "The
Dimming Bulb". The bulb is definitely dimming now.

“The capacity gap that we got at the moment is between 4,000 and
6,000 megawatts," said Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter.
"That is the size of a large power station like Medupi running
flat out.
"That is what we need to get enough space to repair and fix our
old coal power stations.""
What would it take to fix this problem? A MIRACLE! lol.
They're not even talking new power plants using renewables, just
trying to keep burning coal.

Fusion Recedes Into Far Future For The 57th Time
By: RE Date: November 11, 2021, 9:35 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Another Skittle Shitting Unicorn bites the dust.
When I was 9 years old in Brazil watching Star Trek and reading
Tom Swift books and Popular Science magazine, I fully believed
fusion power was just around the corner. Along with faster than
light starships, teleportation, time travel and food
replicators. More than half a century later, we're not even off
the starting line.
It boggles my mind that theoretically smart investment
capitalists and the scientists who work on these projects keep
doing this shit. The only rationale I can come up with is the
ICs use it as a tax write off and it's a steady paycheck for the
scientists.
The Fusion Cavalry will not be riding to the rescue.

Things are getting very testy in Europe. Threatening gas supply
as a tactic.
HTML https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-59274351
"...Mr Putin told Rossiya television on Saturday that he had
spoken to his Belarus counterpart twice and hadn't even had a
"hint" of the threat to cut off gas supplies.
"Of course, in theory, Lukashenko as president of a transit
country could order our supplies to be cut to Europe. But this
would mean a breach of our gas transit contract and I hope this
will not happen," he said.
"There's nothing good in this, and I will, of course, talk to
him about this subject. Perhaps he said that in a fit of
temper."
Thursday's threat by Belarus came amid the threat of fresh EU
sanctions, which could be introduced as early as Monday.
Possible measures include stopping international airlines
carrying migrants from landing at the airport in the Belarusian
capital, Minsk..."

Hopefully, Eurotrash will not have as cold a winter as we are
already getting up here. We're sub-zero F for the last week,
very early for this shyt. Smoking my cancerettes out on the
porch is a race between cancer and frostbite now. lol.
I turned up my thermostat to accommodate the new normal, and I
expect my NG bill to rise this month from the amazingly low cost
so far. By how much I do not yet know.
