The New Climate War: The Fight to Take Back Our Planet - Michael
       Mann
   DIR By: Blade of Grass
       Date: April 19, 2021, 9:30 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Mann, America’s most famous climate scientist, points out that
many zero-carbon alternatives to fossil fuels are now
cost-competitive with fossil fuels. He even suggests that, far
from needing a miracle, we could achieve 100% clean electricity
       with current renewable technologies alone.
The main focus of Mann’s book is a call to arms in the new war
against “inactivists” who are using new tactics of “deception,
distraction and delay” to prevent the phase-out of fossil fuels.
Mann is a robust character, and has fought off several
disgraceful onslaughts against him and his work by climate
change deniers in US politics and the media over the past 20
years. He warns that vested interests and ideological extremists
who oppose efforts to eliminate fossil fuels no longer deny
outright the reality of climate change because people can now
see the evidence for it all around them. Instead, opponents of
action now rely on slightly subtler arguments, and Mann reveals
how they are sometimes unwittingly assisted by clumsy
communications from climate scientists and campaigners.
He cautions against highlighting in particular the need for
action by individual citizens and consumers. As important as
personal efforts are, they can distract attention away from the
critical role of governments and companies in making systemic
       changes.
Mann criticises the practice of flight-shaming climate
researchers, because it creates the false impression that
experts have to experience personal sacrifice and deprivation to
be taken seriously, regardless of how successful they are in
persuading politicians to act. Despite the attention devoted to
it, flying is responsible for about 3% of annual greenhouse gas
       emissions.
Mann also attacks “doomsayers”, including some members of
Extinction Rebellion, who claim that we have already passed the
point of no return, condemning us all to imminent climate
destruction. Such claims are not based on science and have the
effect of making people give up on efforts to rid the world of
       fossil fuels.
Mann does not pull his punches, but his aim is usually strong
and true. This book will no doubt prove controversial for some
climate campaigners, as well as the deniers, but I hope it will
be read by everybody who is engaged in making the case for
       action.

Research Institute on climate change and the environment at the

       The way down
   DIR By: RE
       Date: April 20, 2021, 1:36 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
A more controlled and equitable descent would have been nice,
but 100 years down the line the outcome would have been more or
less the same regardless, a vastly reduced population living at
a much lower standard of living. I think the Illuminati have
known this at least since the days of Malthus, that our
existence was a one-off and our population inevitably would
outstrip the resources. Those in positions of power built a
system to insure they remained there. With the Ag and then
Scientific revolutions the Europeans who got there first
subjugated the world and lived high at the expense of everyone
else. Called Monarchy and Feudalism once, morphed into
Capitalism, all systems to centralize power and wealth and
concentrate it in the hands of a few. Now what is left is for
those with power to cannibalize each other until nothing is left
for anyone. It won't take near as long as the 10.000 years it
took from the advent of Ag to build up as it will to break down.
Certainly a good deal less than 1000 years.
Now for today's question: If reincarnation is possible, would
you want to be reincarnated into the world as it will be 1000
years from now and at what level of technology do you think the
human species will exist, if at all?

       1. This denial is also changing at an increased rate.
"A poll taken in 2016 shows that 52% of Americans believe
climate change to be caused by human activity, while 34% state
it is caused by natural changes. Data is increasingly showing
that 62% of Americans believe that the effects of global warming
       are happening now in 2017."
"In January 2021, the United Nations Development Programme
reported results of the largest-ever climate survey, which
indicated that two-thirds of respondents consider climate change
as an emergency, with forest and land conservation being the
most popular solutions.[1] Specifically, The Peoples' Climate
Vote (1.2 million respondents in over 50 countries) found that
64% said climate change was an emergency – presenting a clear
and convincing call for decision-makers to step up on
       ambition.[2]"
  HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_opinion_on_climate_change
Candidates for political leadership are going to have to act
directly on this issue, or the will loose. 2022 midterms is
going to be a milestone in this change. Expect a grass roots
revolution concerning this. Soon our governing institutions will
be taxing the wealthy at a much higher rate, and the money will
start pouring into our society to change this stagnation.
       2. This is also changing at an increased rate of course. The
"earth is flat" meme can not last as the "truth". Climate
emergency is not a subconscious element anymore. It is becoming
a blatant truth for the vast majority. That will motivate a
revolution in how we go about organizing our societies. Big
money will loose out if it does not comply with the majority and
that will effectively make huge political change. Trump was the
"boy crying wolf" or "Climate emergency is a hoax" and now he
has been eaten by the wolf ( anti-denial ). People are aware of
this now. They are also increasingly aware of big corporation 's
greed and lies, and they are being confronted with this reality
now. They either come down from their lofty perches and join the
fight, or they collapse. So big change is just around the
corner, and denying this fact is going to be looked down upon
and rejected as an excuse to NOT do something about it.

Your knowledge of the history of "capitalism" is accurate, but
I disagree with it's life span. The consensus among the 8
billion people on our planet is that it has failed to be able
sustain life. No matter how powerful the "Illuminati", the
curtain has been pulled back to reveal how horrible they have
made our world. Humans are very capable of mobilizing against
evil forces, and they are about to again. Excuses are becoming
passe, including the idea that they will continue to rule. They
can't because we have become aware of their tragedy producing
actions. It happened during the great depression with FDR's
policies, and our society changed on a dime. 2022 midterms are
going to show that we are mobilizing against this "evil".
Biden's policies are way to compromising and he will be pushed
to become more radical after that. Working for radical change
comes from a change in the apathetic approach that it is too
       late. THAT is denial.
If there is a "way down" it will be fought with all the human
force and technology we can muster. Have no doubt about it. We
will not let the "wolf eat us".
So I have no apocalyptic view of the future. There will be an
immense change in how we distribute resources, and the way we
engage with our environment. To habitually think that we have
lost, is a fabricated narrative which has to change into "fight
to take our world back from the 1%."

The "Children of Men" scenario! I don't buy it though. Even if
there are "forever" chemicals around, they'll mostly get washed
out to sea over a 1000 year time period, and I can't see mass
sterility so pervasive in 25 years. You would already see signs
of sterile populations beginning to crop up.
I think the population reduction will come the old fashioned
way, from mass starvation. The Reindeer on St. Matthew's Island
scenario. Population doesn't go to ZERO though, but rather down
to a few Million globally. Question is what level of technology
for those survivors, and would you want to be reincarnated as
one of them or simply cease to exist?

@ Hamish "Which is more important the conscious prioritizing or
       the subconscious default behavior?"
For what it is worth. Conscious prioritizing is absolutely more
important and should be exercised to avert our subconscious
       habitual biases.
