Student debt and feminised corporate culture need to be part of
any discussion of the pros and cons. I'm sometimes envious of a
mens environment where I could be myself more, instead of always
on my best behaviour.
Aptitude testing is important, because you might land that
secure permanent union job that is repetitive and low skilled,
and then slowly drives you insane if you're at least 1SD above
average IQ and creative. If you are doing it on a casual
contract, you're totally expendable, no security or stability.
What you don't want is to be on your feet all day at McDonald's
or Amazon if you have half a brain. Ambition can't be taught,
but just drifting isn't going to take you any place you really
want. If you're not entrepreneurial, or on a path to
specialisation in something by age 30, you're not looking
forward to much of a future.
