       Covid coming around again.

This outbreak is right where we are in the Northern Suburbs of
Melbourne. One guy working for me was at the football on Sunday
and is off now getting tested. Looks like this outbreak has
       probably come in from India.
Cant say I didn't expect it.

In my neck of the woods (and more than a few places in Kansas,
Nebraska and Iowa that I was in recently), it is as though it is
over. Employees wear masks in maybe 1/3 of the stores, customers
at best are 50/50 and in some places, there are no masks being
worn by anyone. Gun stores I have frequented monthly over the
course of the entire pandemic being a fascinating storyline in
forced compliance, creative workarounds, and outright paying no
attention to the state or local requirements. I found a hotel in
Nebraska that when I walked into it, there were no signs posted,
no employees wearing masks, and I asked them if they had any
such requirements, and they told me "nope, we're all done with
that now and cured". Across the street at the truck stop,
everyone was wearing masks. When you fired up the hotel WiFi and
hit the intro page, the first thing on that page was the chains
policy of masks on all employees, double cleaning, etc etc.
Noticed the same thing at a Subway in eastern Iowa, I asked them
the same question, and they claimed that they only had masks for
about a month in the midst of the pandemic, and then they were
       all set free.
Rural areas don't seem to sweat it as much as suburbanites and
       large metro areas.
       [/quote]
The truck stop I would think is a very high risk area. Lots of
visitors from all over the place.
Its a shame that there is so much conflicting information going
around. Cured is an interesting concept. We had about 20% of the
nursing home residents in 3 locations in Melbourne die last
round. They were all cured I suppose.
its just plain sad how everything in Merika becomes political,
or a matter of infringing ones rights. A virus does not care
what political persuasion you are, or how libertarian you are.
We have same here in Oz. A few nut cases claiming its a big
conspiracy I tells you! Most are taking it seriously. Helps we
have both sides of politics following the advice of the medical
experts. Also helps we have a high level of trust in our
political system.... We dont have disputed elections and such.
       Its all related.
I know 3 people who have died from the virus, and another 4
people who got through it. One 40 year old who was very fit has
ongoing health issues 12 months later. Lets see what long term
       effects the virus has.

U can expect it because of bungling or something else?
I flew in from SG to Melbourne on 2nd Feb 2020. In SG, everyone
wearing masks, also at airport and on flight. The hotel took my
temp with a laser at check in. When we landed in Melbourne
everyone took off the masks. As I exited there was one official
randomly asking passengers if they had been in china. Most of
the passengers were ethnic Chinese if not Chinese national. As
he asked 10% of passers by at most and did not check passports,
it's safe to say he probably missed a few. That's just one
flight. Not that it matters, given that the US initial
recognised outbreak and epicenter was NY, not LA, and prior to
that it was Italy and then Spain hit the hardest in the world,
the correct direction is obvious in hindsight.

As far as I can discern, I am the only person in Tas to have put
on a mask, on one occasion for about a minute.
I think it was late March before any steps were taken here. I
wandered into the post office without noticing a sign saying one
at a time inside and waited behind someone. This resulted in my
being scolded, so I went out to my pickup got a mask I had
bought overseas and when the other customer came out, I went in
       with the mask on.
Yesterday I has a meeting with a physio and speech pathologist
at a clinic I hadn't been to before and the physio shook my hand
on meeting and leaving. The same happened with a vocational
rehab meeting about 6 months ago, guys shook hands with me and I
commented sort of an icebreaker 'arent u scared I didn't
sanitize first?'. Luke said ' I'm scared of the jab, that's
all'. Tyler said 'i don't want their soup'.
Last year the sanitizer was put out everywhere, crosses and
arrows were taped to floors, signs on doors about number allowed
inside, even dividers for entry and exit at the big chain
stores. Nothing is left of all that except the odd sanitizer
dispenser. The whole time, you saw three guys on the way to a
job sit across the front seat of a truck shoulder to shoulder,
not taking a seperate vehicle to avoid contact.

Sorry to hear. We are at the lowest levels in a year. In the
county of my practice, 49% have gotten two doses of vaccine. it
isn’t gone but it’s encouraging that we’ve dropped down so much.
Here in Austin proper most people are still making some effort
to mask and social distance, although the Governor has been
trying to undermine the more careful local governments who are
trying to proceed with caution. Most people are still cautious,
but not everybody is wearing masks. They’re still required in
       most stores and restaurants.
Out in the country at the lake, there is much less compliance
       with masking.
We went to an outdoor movie last night, saw the screening of the
new documentary of the life and times of the late Guy Clark, who
passed in 2016. He once lived here, and his music has been
something I’ve listened to since about 1973. A real Texas kinda
guy, who wrote and performed some great songs.
The show was at Laguna Gloria, an artsy museum venue on what was
once one of the fanciest estates on Lake Austin about a hundred
years ago. They have 13 acres of grounds, and I could smell the
fish in the lake. Great movie.

Things around here have reverted to semi-normal pre-COVID
activity. Masks are hardly required anywhere except Dr offices,
restaurants have normal table seating and kids r in skule. AK
State Fair will probably be held normally, maybe some social
distancing rules. Everyone is encouraged to VAX, not sure the
       total compliance rate.
