Phil Ochs is great, but riddle me this: "Country Roads" has 397
million youtube views but is neither on the top 10 folk or
country songs lists.

Country roads is a John Denver tune, not Phil Ochs.
Not sure how they come up with those "Top Ten" lists, or define
the genre. Country Roads might be considered "Pop" music. I
don't think Yuotube figures in, probably record sales or radio
plays.

Sorry to go off topic, but "Country Roads" is Bluegrass. Since
"Tangled up in Blue", for example, has only 25 million views
this is an enormous difference. There's alot going on here, but
I believe John Denver was becoming too popular and political;
so, he was taken down by the power elite.
By the way, I'm sorry to hear about your ongoing health
problems, RE.
I have not posted in about 18 months since the last time I
mentioned that I threw away a math proof like Matt Damon in
"Goodwill Hunting". Then I got spooked when Murdoch put a
comparison of Covid and the movie "Contagion" on the front page
of the NY Post a few days later.

Country Roads probably couldn't be taken seriously by music
critics because it's too ubiquitous of a tune, used in eg auld
Lang syne
Here's a great John Denver song, but again it's tune is loosely
the same used in eg 6 ribbons. I like him but he was not really
a composer

Beautiful song. Thanks for posting.
The melody to Port of [old] Amsterdam seems to be a variation of
Scarborough Fair, which is an Old English tune. Obviously not
original to JD. He had an excellent voice for pop and a very
fresh face. :)
I'll take faklempt over farmischt any time. I used to have a
real problem with being overwhelmed with emotion. It prevented
me from singing, but decades of work on myself including chakra
toning and kundalini yoga ameliorated this. It may indicate a
fourth chakra or tiferet blockage.

A Cripple Thanksgiving

It's thw 1 year Anniversary of having my leg chopped off.
What I am Thankful for:
I am not in agonizing Pain requiring 20 mg of Morphine every 4
hours to dull it somewhat.
I am not going Cold Turkey to get myself off the opiates. Got
that done in January.
I am out of the Gulag with the roaming Zombies and disgusting,
poorly prepared cheap food.
I got on Medicaid and get PCA Cripple Helpers for a few hours a
day.
My digs are warm, the rent is affordable and gas and electric
still pretty cheap.
What I am not Thankful for:
I have plenty of good food, but I can hardly eat again. Nausea
sets in after a couple of bites of anything. I dread when it
moves down the alimentary canal and I have to spend my time on
the throne waiting for it to exit my body so I can flush it out
to sea. The less I eat, the better because it means fewer trips
to the loo.
Restaurants now around here completely suck. Besides the fact I
can hardly eat, the food is not a whole lot better than the
Gulag food. Tokyo, the Asian restaurant which was OK has new
owners, and now you don't even get a pot of Tea with your meal.
It costs extra.
My fake leg is so far 100% worthless. It offers no additional
independence, is terrifically uncomfortable to wear and actually
gets in the was for making seat transfers and moving around in
the digs. The wheelchair works much better without the hardware
strapped on the stump. ATK prosthetics are just over priced
junk. There is a reason you never see anyone wandering around
on these things. BTKs yes, ATKs, no. I have never seen anyone
in all my years walking around with one. Mine so far is just a
sculpture propped up for display in the digs. I have been
waiting months for PT to try to make it useful, but lack of PT
staffing has delayed that. I doubt it will make much difference
once I get it anyhow.
I am bored out of my skull all the time, even when the PCA shows
up. They are not very interesting to talk to. Besides scanning
the newz each day popping up on Google and pasting a few reports
here, I got nothing to do.
My Thanksgiving Feast this year will be my traditional one for
the last few years, a Frozen Swanson Hungry Man Turkey TV
Dinner. Except of course, I'm not hungry and it probably will
take me 3 days to finish it, if I don't throw it out first. No
PCA coming over today, so I will have to microwave it myself.
It's too early to nuke it yet though, so now I'll head back to
my recliner, put on my sleep mask and meditate until my bowels
or bladder force me out of the chair for another roll over to
the toilet.

It sounds rough RE. I admire that you started off with what you
