Jesus. Another one. 19 primary school kids! Fuck fuck fuck fuck
       fuck.
       Hmmm.
Our gun laws here are rigorous but reasonable, despite what is
said. I own 10 all up in what is considered the strictest state.
       (Victoria).
Its easy to comply with the requirements, providing you dont
       have a violent criminal record.
Happy to pay the price of being licensed, register my firearms,
get pre-approval to purchase them and store them safely if it
means we dont have school shootings, not to mention not being
scared police will shoot me every time I get pulled over for
speeding... Which is more often than I like.
Pretty sure the horse has bolted over there in Merika though.
What the hell makes fuckwits want to shoot kids in schools?
       Or worshipers in Mosques?
Or random people on holiday at Port Arthur?
       Or diners at a cafe?
I could think of a great number of scumbag arseholes I would
shoot if I ever felt the urge instead of random innocent men
       women and children.
My thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victims.

A few public executions where shooters are hung and choked then
to let down to be disemboweled before being ripped apart by
Teslas connected by towing straps tied to each arm and leg.
How many shooters would we get after a few of these?

Big difference is the US has ownership for the right to self
defence, we do not. More and more laws all the time and
focussing on what you need, not want. Anyone picks up an empty
casing you drop, that's 2500$ fine for each casing they're
       caught with.
They're next targetting 'rapid fire shot guns'. Pump Action and
lever action are already banned, so this must mean antiquated
double barrel shotguns that fire all of those two shells one
after the other. The other thing is 'building an arsenal,' not
sure what that's going to be defined as, maybe two firearms.
Then again what do you NEED even one for? is the logical
       progression after that.

I call bullshit on that Phil. You dont need a license to buy
empty brass, wads, hulls or projectiles, only loaded rounds,
powder and primers. You can buy brass and projectiles online and
ship interstate too. Try Oz Gun Mart. Thats where I have
purchase most of my gear and received in post. Never been asked
       for a license.
Powder and primers, yes. Inert components, no.
So why are you getting fined for having a spent case?
I go out in the local state forest and there are spent shells
eveywhere. Littering by leaving them should get a fine..

I don't remember now who told me that is the state law here in
Tas, I think it was the local officer for a while here, Pete. It
creates a problem if you buy a 4wd previously owned by a farmer
or hunter and then get your vehicle searched for any reason,
because there's a high chance some empty shells ejected and went
under seats. Then again, who can even keep up with allowable
type and length of a knife,
either folded or solid and where it can be carried on your
       person or vehicle.
Anyway with greens and 'teal independents' having a lot of sway
now with the election result, don't be surprised if the gun
control lobby get their way on the 'arsenal' proposal fairly
easily. It's moot for anyone subject to a vro or no firearms
order. The former get given out for spurious reason all the time
such as disputes with any vindictive people. The latter seem to
be for just being dissident like popular YouTuber 'aussie
cossack' and subject you to regular house and vehicle searches.

Woke up this morning and recall more clearly, yes it was the
police officer Pete. Whether that makes it the gospel truth or
not, will depend on your experience of them.

       [glow=red,2,300]"Nutballs.
       I believe America has a nutball problem."[/glow]
       Indeed.
Land of the free. Home of the brave.
Over 60% of the people who engage in these mass shootings have a
history of domestic violence. More have a history of cruelty to
animals. It seems, as JOW noted, the horse is out of the barn.
There is no removing firearms from the US. At the rate of
confiscating one gun per minute it would take over 500 years to
get them all. If you only concentrated on semi-auto rifles and
shotguns it would take over 100 years. So... can we get guns
away from crazy people without impinging on the 2A? Vindictive
ex-spouses, hateful neighbors, bureaucratic bullshit can all
work to keep firearms away from a sane, well adjusted person if
you institute a mental health provision in the law. I have no
doubt that the constant desire to disarm the populace will
produce abuse by authority. The age could be raised to 21 - with
a waiver for 18 year olds who could get references. But this
would drive the gun lobby nuts. The industry will mount a
massive push-back against any curtailment of rights (profit).
Of course, this particular incident was made far worse by the
cowardly, inept police. They issued all sorts of gear; helmets,
body armor, latest firearms - but they forgot to issue a pair of
       balls.
This was a horrible event. Nineteen kids dead. In Chicago they
would call it a bad week. Meanwhile, I get adds daily for ammo
and guns. There's a special on Turkish shotguns and Brazilian
handguns with several suppliers. There are over 400 MILLION
rounds of Russian ammo sitting in US warehouses right now.
The media, of course, gives its focus to the Armalite platform.
They look like what they are. However, as most of us know, you
can get the same performance from a Garand based model with a
wooden stock. Add a binary trigger (one shot on the pull one
shot on the release) and you're damn near full auto.
The 2A serves as a deterrent against tyranny. It's that simple
and I wish it weren't so. But it is. We should do all we can
to keep insane morons away from guns but I have little hope.
I do not live a "normal" life, but I can say with certainty that
on several occasions I'd have been dead if I didn't have
firearms. It's perhaps my weird circle of acquaintances, but I
know a lot of people who will tell you the same.
