The Principality of Lorvasa

Nation Name: Lorvasa
National Flag:
HTML https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/296349229105020928/302544872584380416/LorvasanFlag.png
Location on the Map: Eastern “Blister” of the Western Continent
in the Southern Hemisphere.
Capital City: La Salle
Government Type: Despotic Aristocracy. Has a lone single ruler,
going by the title of “High Prince(ss)”. Under the High
Prince(ss), will be 3 appointed “Princes” from 9 candidates
drawn from the High Counts, who themselves have 3 Counts under
them, who then have 3 Marquis beneath them, who have 3 Dukes
beneath them, and 3 Lords beneath them, with the “Lords” in
direct control over various cities/small regions. A High
Prince(ss) is elected from one of the 3 standing Princes when
the High Prince(ss) dies or steps down.
Economic System: Centralized Command Economy with heavy national
regulation. Trade with foreign powers is done by strict
individual licenses for traders to bring Cargo X to Location Y
for Price Z with deviation not accepted. However such licenses
are easily obtained as Lorvasa thrives on Trade, they are just
highly protectionist and take a dim view of “predatory
merchants”.
Leader Name: High Prince Vasili Gar’Lorik
Ruling Political Faction: Noble born bloodlines. While most
posts are Elected/Appointed by their lessers and majors, the
truth is that these posts are all filled with proper noble
bloodlines drawn from the past of Lorvasa, in accordance with
the Falisian Reformation Movement several decades ago, that had
reached major appeal after the failure of the empire they had
broken away from in the wake of the Great War. Named after its
original spokeswoman, Sey Falis, it’s a traditionalist movement
filled with heavy amounts of national pride and a belief in the
glory of past figures of Lorvasan Nobility that they seek to
embrace again.
Most Followed Religion / State Religion: Lorvasa has freedom of
Religion, and most neighboring powers and historical partners do
have at least a minor presence of their Faith within Lorvasan
borders, though Religions are kept clear of the halls of power,
with the LSS often cracking down on “Dangerous” religious
figures that might cause trouble. Most native Lorvasans tend to
worship the The Black Way, a religion based on reincarnation and
seeking of perfection in your current incarnations life. Such as
a Farmer believes that they are supposed to become a perfect
Farmer, having mastered all there is to the life in their
current life, and by doing so will break away from the cycle of
reincarnation to join The Black Way. It is also believed that
those who join The Black Way will return to the world when it is
on the brink of final disaster to guide and protect the faithful
Lorvasans. All in all it is an ancient religion that they have
never thrown.
History: Lorvasa in the ancient times was never a true, global
power. The best they could claim was to be a mercantile power
with a strong naval tradition with ships of strong Lorvasan wood
and sail plying the trade routes of the sea. Most actual
military conflict was internal rather than external, with strong
rivalries between noble families over control of the more scarce
resources in Lorvasa. The sagas of ancient Lorvasa are many, of
great explorers, artisans (they are particularly proud of their
music and wood carvings), and the warrior kings of noble
families.
When the War of Ruthless Aggression (As they call the Annexation
by Ryudinia) came, the Lorvasans were ill prepared for it. The
people were fractured into 8 different Noble Power Blocks, who
only decided to work together against the external threat when
it became clear that it wasn’t just a small border skirmish or
absorbing the least of their rivals into Ryudinia. No peace was
available, and honestly Lorvasa could not have stopped it, as
they were still technologically backwards and far out manned.
The War of Ruthless Aggression is a dark spot on Lorvasan
history and it isn’t unusual to hear more nationalist Lorvasans
speak bitterly about the humiliation and cruelty of the war when
it comes up.
Since the annexation Lorvasan culture was suppressed by the
Ryudinians, who for several generations took a very dim view of
the outside Emperor and their own laws and culture. Along with
perceived crimes like the dismantling of the Lorvasan Nobility,
seizure of the Lorvasan naval assets and property to serve the
Ryudinians left a very bitter insurrectionist movement in the
nation, only kept in check by the superior military power of the
Empire of Ryudinia.
During these generations of occupation the Falisian Reformation
Movement formed, bringing together the disparate, grumbling
factions of Lorvasa under the guiding doctrines and theories of
Sey Falis. It became a strange time in Lorvasa as it outwardly
appeared more peaceful than ever before in its history of
occupation, with acts of sedition cut down to practically zero
as dissidents were gathered together, training in the Lorvasan
wilderness, gathering supplies, and preparing for the day to
overthrow their overlord.
When the Great War broke out, these plans were almost ready to
enact. The troops pulled out of Lorvasa towards the meat grinder
of the battles against foreigners, Lorvasan men conscripted and
forced to fight in a war they didn’t see as their own cause, it
had caused a near perfect storm for the revolution. 3 years into
the Great War, Lorvasa broke out into massive, violent rebellion
storming the Colonial Administration Office of Ryudinia. It was
seized by the first High Princess of Lorvasa, Kallis Gar’Lorik,
rising the flag of Lorvasa once against over the Homeland.
The War of Salvation though did not end in that lightning
strike. Ryudinian soldiers were pulled from the front to restore
order, and regain control of the pivotal transportation hub of
Lorvasa. In bloody, brutal urban siege warfare the High Princess
Kallis Gar’Lorik lost her life, fighting against the 5th
Imperial Corps. Her son, was chosen to be the new High Prince,
Vasili Gar’Lorik, to continue the War of Salvation against
Imperial Ryudinia, which saw grand cities of Lorvasa turned into
broken, bombed out shells of their former glory, scars that
still exist in the nation to this day.
The War of Salvation ended with what Lorvasa sees as total
victory, following the proclamation of Independence handed from
Emperor Serafin of Ryudinia. Relations with the Empire remains
bitter, as most Lorvasans alive now have lost something to the
brutality of the 5th Imperial Corps during the War of Salvation,
along with the nationalist movement of the Falisian Reformation
taking hold. To say in this day that Lorvasa is still on a war
footing and appears more like an armed camp to outsiders than a
peaceful nation isn’t at all incorrect. The LSS is an active
presence felt around every corner, the Lorvasan Royal Guard is
constantly being rebuilt and trained to properly resist what
they see as the inevitable conflict with the Empire.

The Lorvasan National Anthem:
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Kq1qUt2RaU
A song born out of the War of Salvation, it's composer is
believed to be (Unconfirmed, the song achieved widespread fame
during the chaotic time of the war) Silvia Dracu, a peasant
woman of La Salle. She claims that she was inspired to write the
song when she was shell shocked from a ruthless Ryudinian
assault. Dazed she wandered the battlefield, looking over the
broken, shattered bodies of Lorvasan both noble and peasant,
searching for her own family amid the ruins of what was once her
beautiful home.
While others have claimed to compose the song as well in the
early months of its fame, Silvia Dracu's claim is the official
one recognized by the state. The song is a somber reminder of
the costs of Lorvasan indepedence, and for most stirs a sense of
hope. Even in the worst of situations, the flower of Lorvasan
love and beauty can still bloom. It's story and composition
represents to many what it means to be a Lorvasan.
Life in Lorvasa:
The Lorvasans are a very poor people, all considered. Their
major cities and centers of industry suffered greatly during the
War of Salvation, leaving most of the economy struggling to
rebuild after Emperor Serafin’s enlightenment and surrender (As
they see it).
Lorvasans are raised by their families, as is only natural. No
official state run orphanages and creches yet. Typically with
neighbors or surviving relatives taking care of the many war
orphans from both the Great War and the War of Salvation. Most
families live in communal housing blocks out of necessity in the
cities, where in the countryside two or three families will
typically share a hold.
As such private property is somewhat lessened in Lorvasa. While
in Ryudinia every family might for example own a set of tools
for working around the house, it is more common for several
families in a housing block or hold to buy a couple of sets of
tools which are shared among all who live there. Most housing
belongs directly to one of the Lords of Lorvasa, with private
citizen ownership of land currently something of a rarity,
though reforms are spoken of setting aside Holds for decorated
veterans as a reward for service, it has yet to pass yet.
When children reach the age of 4 they are enrolled in Lorvasan
State School, usually something funded by the local Dukes. The
State School provides a solid, well rounded education of
practical skills. Most Lorvasans will have a roughly equatable
education to that of most nations in 1920, though their general
activities might be different. For example rather than
conducting a laboratory experiment in science and writing a
report, they are more likely to be assigned to build a project
for the State that demonstrates the same lesson, which will then
be donated to the local businesses as appropriate. So while a
child in another nation might be reading books about Faraday
Cages and electrical charges and circuits, a Lorvasan child
learns the same lessons while also building a Faraday Flashlight
which will be donated to the local Lord’s Levy or the Lorvasan
Royal Guard. Every bit counts, as Lorvasa can’t afford to let
even such things slide.
By the age of 12 Lorvasan children will be divided up into 3
groups in their education. Most will be filed away under
Menials, shipped off for their secondary education to trade
schools or apprenticeships to learn their lifelong trade. The
second largest category are those marked out for military
service by their good marks and their psychological profiles,
sent off to various academies based off the will of the student
(as they are allowed to make their own choice in this regard).
And the smallest set are those marked out for higher education,
deemed an appropriate expenditure of State funds to get them the
equivalent of a higher degree.
After their education (Ending anywhere from 14 to 25 depending
on the path they take), Lorvasans are assigned to their jobs. In
the case of the Military this is a mandatory 20 year term of
service before they are retired and spend the rest of their live
on a state stipend.
Their recreation is somewhat standard. Radios are not a thing
for the average Lorvasan, nor are movie theaters. Sports,
reading, collecting, projects, arts, music, all are fairly
common though. Most local Lords will arrange for things like
local sports leagues or clubs for those who are interested, and
there’s always a healthy amount of prestige and influence that
comes among the Lords aiming for Dukedom by having sponsored
great teams, artists, crafters, etc. Due to the lack of
broadcasting and movies in Lorvasa the industries for them as of
yet don’t exist in the country. Though it is said that High
Prince Vasili Gar’Lorik has been trying to sponsor and fund a
national broadcasting system, the plans are still a few years
away from fruition.
Elderly Lorvasans fall into two categories. Those who have had
military service on their record are given a state retirement
stipend, so that they may go home, raise good, patriotic
children, and impart their wisdom and experience upon others.
Civilians get no such government retirement package, having to
depend on their own meager savings and the good will of their
family and neighbors.
For the nobility the path is mostly the same, though Noble
families from Dukes to the Princes themselves will usually
arrange for their scions to attain some sort of prestigious
posting (Officers in the military, managers at farmsteads and
factories, etc). This is only kept in check through the Knights
Paladin Brigade and the LSS, which tends to keep the nepotism to
an acceptable level for the most part. Not gone entirely, but
the most inept, corrupt, or negligent of the Noble Scions are
usually discovered and either arrested or busted down to hard
labor should it be found that they corrupted the system, even if
it wasn’t in fact their actual actions that resulted in their
posting. And their Education is often done via private tutors,
the best their families can afford rather than the public
education system.

Here is the Account of His Great Lorvasan Armies
The Weapons of the Lorvasan Armory:
- The W-15 "Saber" Carbine: The Saber is the newest firearm in
the Lorvasan Arsenal, designed and first crafted at the start of
the War of Salvation. As such it is only provided to the elite
of the Lorvasan Royal Guard.
The Saber is a short rifle meant for ease of use from horseback
or in urban combat, bolt action with an 8 round clip. Made to be
light weight, lacking everything from a bayonet lug to room to
mount advanced sights beyond the standard iron sights, with most
of the carbine made of light weight Lorvasan Balsa Wood and
using a far smaller, .45 caliber pistol round. Each "Saber" is a
work of art, purposefully crafted for its intended soldier after
the War of Salvation, and those that saw action during the War
of Salvation highly personalized and decorated with everything
from inlaid silver to intricate scrollwork in the wood.
- The GL-98 "Liberator" Revolver: Standard personal firearm of
Lorvasa, and the most prolific weapon in Lorvasa. Almost every
citizen old enough to hold it up owns a Liberator, and by
Lorvasan Tradition and Law the Liberator is an open carry weapon
across the nation, meaning it is more unusual than not after the
horrors of the War of Salvation not to see a Lorvasan packing
the heavy shooting iron.
The Liberator is an 8 round revolver, and unlike the Saber is a
blunt, ugly, heavy weapon. It was originally designed and built
in 1898 in preparation for the proposed War of Salvation. As
such the Liberator has a rugged, simple design meant to make it
peasant proof and dependable despite whatever conditions it was
left in. Many Liberators were buried, submerged, or otherwise
abused during the secretive stockpiling before the War of
Salvation to keep the build up secret from the Imperials, with
the proof of their design working as these abused weapons worked
just as advertised, gunning down Ryudinians in the streets of
Lorvasa.
It has remained the standard sidearm for the Lorvasan Military,
despite the fact that is far less advanced than modern
semi-automatic sidearms. In part as a matter of pride, but also
just due to the less advanced Lorvasan industry and the ease of
its production that it has remained in service. "Good enough
for the War of Salvation, Good Enough Now" being the standard
belief.
- The Lorvasan Hatchet: The standard melee weapon and tool that
all Lorvasan Royal Guard carry on them. It's design goes back to
the same reliable, honed design used in the ancient wars of
Lorvasa. A heavy bladed, high impact axe blade that was
originally designed to rupture through Lorvasan armor. Suffice
to say on a modern battlefield it is just as capable of
splitting a skull as it was back then. It isn't balance for
throwing as a lighter hatchet would be, and in modern use the
Lorvasan Hatchet is more a sign of nobility (As only Nobles are
allowed to have one) and a weapon to "clean up" after a fight,
ensuring death with a meaty thwack to the face.
- The TK-85 Long Rifle: It was not designed as a proper Military
weapon, but instead a weapon meant for securing the Lorvasan
frontiers, born out of the traditions of Lorvasan Hunters and
Mountainmen who needed a proper, accurate rifle to take down
dangerous animals. The TK-85 is a conversion and modernization
of the breech loading rifles of the previous generation,
changing it to a breech loading rifle firing standard cartridge
ammunition.
As a breech loader the TK-85 is a single shot weapon only,
meaning it couldn't match the sheer rate of fire of Ryudinian
battle rifles during the War of Salvation. It is however well
known for its accuracy and reliably. And despite the drawbacks
of a single shot rifle the Lorvasan Government is loathe to
replace the TK-85 as the standard longarm of the Lorvasan
Levies, believing that the peasants lack proper fire discipline
and skill not to waste their shots.
Unlike the Saber, the TK-85 does have a bayonet lug as standard
for the military models. As well many are often outfitted with
telescopic sights, making the TK-85 the standard sharpshooter
weapon of the Lorvasan Military, though very few specialist
sharpshooters exist in their military.
- GL-12 "Iron Hammer" Field Gun: The "Iron Hammer" is the
standard field artillery piece for the Lorvasan Levies. As the
War of Salvation was planned as, and expected to be based around
heavy, block to block urban combat for the most part the Iron
Hammer remained a light weight, direct fire gun. Which also
served well for the general wild terrain of Lorvasa in their
estimation compared to large, cumbersome guns. Towable by horse,
truck, or manpower quite easily, the Iron Hammer is designed to
maintain a rapid rate of light fire, with Levy crew trained to
drilled to maintain their rate of fire over all other concerns,
battering enemy infantry and armor with a storm of shells
instead of precision, high impact shots.
- TK-8 "Orion": A shoddily made rip off of the standard
Ryudinian design, due to poor standards and experimental (For
the Lorvasan) designs the cooling systems are prone to failure,
with the barrels known to overheat and warp during heavy,
sustained fire giving the Orion a very poor reputation among the
Levies, Internal Securities Forces, and Maritime Defense Force.
Rather than improve the design so far, they "Fixed" this issue
by limiting the Machinegun to 20 round magazines of ammunition
instead of being belt fed, believing that the reload cycle would
give the barrel time to cool off. Still the overheating issue is
well known, handling the weapons in drills and combat is known
to be dangerous, and more than a few Lorvasans have burned their
hands badly on the Orion. This has made serving as the
machinegunner in a crew/ship a punishment detail for the
Lorvasans.
- The "Maria" Rifle: A multipurpose gun used by the Lorvasans.
The Maria is a 4" rifle used for fixed gun emplacements, as well
as on their Frigates and Destroyers, as well as their
Anti-Aircraft gun of the age. Too heavy to be mobile, too slow
firing to be fit for anti-infantry work the Maria is known
however to be very accurate over long ranges. It's also one of
the only weapons in the Lorvasan Arsenal that is truly suited to
anti-tank warfare, as they have yet to develop their own tank
program.
- The Avenger Torpedo Launcher: The first torpedo system
developed by Lorvasa, installed on their Patrol Boats as well as
the Castille Class Destroyer. The Avenger is a single tube
torpedo launcher, with the torpedo itself having a miniscule 2
km range to it. The Avenger has a dubious reputation, as often
in weapon tests and drills the torpedo fails compared to
contemporary counterparts from other nations. Failure often
being either due to guidance being off or dud warheads, with the
torpedo often known to have problems maintaining proper depth,
passing right under targets.
- The C-12 "Guardian" Biplane: The only aircraft in the Lorvasan
arsenal at this time. The Internal Securities Forces runs the
only Air Force in all of Lorvasa, the experimental Coastal Air
Patrol with the Guardian as their standard design. The Guardian
mounts twin nose mounted TK-8 "Orion" machine guns as its
primary air to air armament, modified for an enhanced water
cooling system to deal with the barrel's overheating problem (A
solution not seen as feasible in an infantry weapon due to its
size). It's standard "Ground attack" weapon being the Avenger
Torpedo, as the Internal Securities Forces designed the craft to
help with "unruly" waterborne threats. Should the design prove
successful there is interest in seeing a land attack version
developed.
- The Lorvasan Corvette: The Patrol Boats of Lorvasa, operated
solely by the Internal Securities Forces. The Lorvasan Corvette
is not suited to deep water operations, with a very shallow
draft meant to allow for river and lake patrols as well as the
primary coastal work it is best known for. The Lorvasan Corvette
is not strictly a military craft, owning to the nature of the
Internal Securities Forces itself. Fitted with a single dual
TK-8 Orion Mount in the bow, and an Avenger Launcher stern it's
still not a ship that anyone in their right mind would like to
tangle with if they could help it. Beyond that the Lorvasan
Corvette is designed as much for Search and Rescue and Security
work as it is for war, pulling duties as varied as rescusing
survivors from sinking ships to laying mines off the coast to
boarding and investigating suspicious merchant vessels.
The Lorvasan Corvette was the first ship design fielded by the
nation. Built during the War of Salvation, many Corvettes were
sunk by the Ryudinians, the few that operated back then becoming
known for nighttime raids and patrols, hiding during the
daylight. This lead to a record of mixed success for the design
as Ryudinian ships often cleaved right through the fragile
Corvettes without even knowing it during the dangerous, close
range nighttime assaults.
- The Alric Class Frigate: Part of the new Maritime Defense
Force. The Alric Class is mounts 4 "Maria" Rifles, 2 centerline
mounted, 2 wing mounted. The ship is light weight even by
frigate standards, run with a smaller crew and meant for long
distance runs and deep ocean patrols. Lacking the Avenger
Launcher it seems ill suited to ship to ship combat, with the 4"
Maria Guns being ill suited to tackling heavier ships. Standard
Lorvasan Theory was to design the Alric as an escort class and
raider, with the belief that when war came the Alric Class would
be able to protect Lorvasan shipping as well as intercept an
enemy convoy, sink it decisively, and disengage before enemy
assets could arrive.
- The Castille Class Destroyer: Part of the new Maritime Defense
Force. The Castille Class was the first "Proper Warship" that
Lorvasa has designed since the advent of gunpowder weapons in
Lorvasa. The Castille is clearly meant to be a combat vessel.
With the Avenger Torpedo launcher giving it the capability of
threatening heavier ships, and the redoubtable Maria Rifle
mounted in 4 centerline mounts it is considered by Lorvasa to be
a very modern, very advanced warship. Like the Alric it does run
light however, meant for long range patrols, blue water fleet
engagement, and shore bombardment.
- The Crusader Class Cruiser: Flagship of the Maritime Defense
Force. There is currently only one of this class, run by
Lady-Captain Helga Ral'Zarin. It's the heaviest warship they've
designed and have the capability of building, mounting 4
centerline single rifle 6" Turrets, and 2 win single rifle 6"
turrets, with 10 4" Maria Rifles as secondary guns spaced across
the hull. It has yet to go on a proper patrol, having just been
finished scant weeks ago, launched on its shakedown cruise and
nothing else so far. Theory is that the Crusader's gun mix will
provide it with the firepower to rapidly decimate anything
smaller than it, and the standard Lorvasan light weight designs
will allow it to outrun anything it can't salvo out of
existence.

---------------------------------------------------------
Branches of the Lorvasan Military:
Nearly all branches of the Lorvasan Military are under the
purview of a Castellan, who answers directly to the Three
Princes and the High Prince(ss). Traditionally however the
Castellans have broad authority to set their policies as they
wish, with oversight and control from the highest levels of
Lorvasan government being an exception rather than a rule. The
exception to this system is the Knights Paladin, who operate
directly under the control of the High Prince(ss), who also
serves as their Castellan and is not answerable to the Three
Princes.
- The Lorvasan Royal Guard:
The Lorvasan Royal Guard is the elite military branch of the
Lorvasans. They are the first to get new, experimental
technology, and the priority for funding and supply in lean
times. The Lorvasan Royal Guard is made up entirely of the noble
caste of Lorvasan society, typically second born and later
scions. The Lorvasan Royal Guard takes its traditions back from
the ancient times, before Lorvasa was under the thumb of
Imperial Ryudinia, taking their military inspiration from
Wulfgar Garrick, the national hero of Lorvasa. Units operate in
small bands, with a high level of independence in their command
structure, leaving individual units to decide on their own the
best tactics to achieve the declared strategic objectives.
Lorvasan Royal Guard units organize by the following rank, these
ranks might seem bizarre to an outside observer, as they are as
often a reflection of House and Tradition as much as actual
seniority:
Errant → Lancer → Bastion → Lord →
Knight → Paladin → Castellan.
There is only ever one Castellan of the Lorvasan Royal Guard, a
staff position who answers to the Princes and who’s attachment
handles Logistics and overall strategy, along with managing
internal politics of the Lorvasan Royal Guard. A section of the
Castellan's Attachment is found in all fronts that the Royal
Guard operates, and makes the Castellan the largest unit
commander in the Royal Guard.
Paladins are senior unit commanders. The seldom ever lead armies
of significant size. The Rank of Paladin means that you are the
commander In the Hot Seat. Expected to take the most dangerous
missions. If a unit is damaged and loses its leadership it will
often rally under a Paladin by a matter of course, with the
Paladin’s missions often of the highest priority. Despite this
senior rank a Paladin almost always commands just a small Lance
of up to 30 Errants. Paladins earn their rank through notable
mastery of small unit tactics, and when Command of a Theater is
in doubt, it is the most senior Paladin who takes over the role
of strategic planning.
Knights are the officers in charge of Cohorts in the Royal
Guard. Despite having the largest command (Organized in groups
of 800 at full strength), Knights are not the senior commanders
in an operation. The role of a Knight and his Cadre are to be a
backstop for the Royal Guard. Providing a reserve force and
fortified defensive line for operations, expanding a break in
the enemy lines made by Lances, etc. Knights take command over
logistics if the Castellan Attachment is somehow unsuited to the
task, and are responsible for fitness training of units under
their command (Lord, Bastion, and Lancer lead units in theater
with them). Knights are chosen more for their Administration
skills than their battlefield record, usually assigned command
of a force when not in battle.
Lords are senior, competent leaders of Lances. Typically they
take direct command of one Lance of their own, and have close
command over two other junior Lances for a flexible order of
battle with more mass to tackle a hard objective than the
singular Lance. Failing the presence of a Paladin on the field
of battle a Lord is likely to take direct command of an
offensive battle, handing out mission assignments as need be.
Bastions are senior, competent leaders of Lances. It is a
slightly lesser rank of Lord, as the role of a Bastion is an
expert in defensive tactics, often seen as a “Grooming” rank for
candidates to take the role of a Knight since as a defensive
commander they have to take a longer view towards unit
readiness, discipline, and coordination of larger units.
Bastions almost never take command of a battle, only in cases of
absolute desperation where leadership is shattered and a
particularly dynamic Bastion is able to rally the troops. Such
rare events usually mark someone out as ready for Paladin,
rather than Knight, but it isn’t unheard of. Like a Lord as
Bastion will take direct command of a single Lance, and have two
junior Lancers under their close command and supervision.
A Lancer is the equivalent in other nations of a
Non-Commissioned Officer, typically the highest rank lowborn
nobles of minor status and accomplishment ever reach. Lancers
are given direct command over a Lance of up to 30 Errants. Most
Lancers are senior soldiers, expected to have enough command
presence and tactical acumen to accomplish missions given to
them, with most commands they get from higher up being as simple
as "Take Hill 340" compared to more complex plans. This can lead
to utter chaos in a battlefield that makes coordination
something that happens with only the best of commanders, but
also gives them tactical flexibility to be harder for an enemy
commander to read and counter, with a full battle of Lorvasan
Royal Guard being very fluid, ever changing when it operates
properly.
Errants are the most junior members of the Lorvasan Royal Guard.
Having been deemed sufficiently trained by their instructors
(Usually retired military, occasionally they are trained while
attached to an active Lance, moved from Non-Combatant to full
Errant with the granting of their blade). Errants form the
backbone of the Elite of the Lorvasan military, trained in a
wide variety of operations.
The average Royal Guard serves as Mounted Infantry, with
typically only in the hardest times, when supplies of properly
trained horses are low, not being given a proud Lorvasan
Charger. Swift, agile mounts trained to move through the rough
mountains of Lorvasa and swiftly cross the lowlands, and bred
for their war temperament and strong loyalty to their bonded
riders.
The Royal Guard still wear steel breastplates and open faced
helms into battle that look more in line with warriors out of 5
centuries ago than on a modern battlefield. No one believes that
this will provide any true protection against the higher caliber
weapons that have appeared in recent decades, but it is a manner
of tradition and pride for the Royal Guard. Anyone can be a
killer, but only a Lorvasan Noble could aspire to be a Paladin,
and should always look the part. Most are simple, battered
pieces that have been dinged, dented, and repaired from small
arms fire over the years as the thick steel plate is still
capable of saving a man’s life from lighter munitions such as
pistols, and wearing armor that bears the scars of many stopped
rounds is believed to be lucky.

- The Lorvasan Levies:
Ever since the days of ancient Lorvasa, war has been not just
the business of nobles, but the killing fields of the lowborn.
The modern era hasn't changed this at the least. While the
Lorvasan Royal Guard is the Elite, the Levies are the rank and
file adding much needed bulk and support.
In the ancient doctrines of Lorvasa the Levies mostly served the
purpose of mobile terrain, being used to set up defensive strong
points and resupply points for their betters, slowly advancing
or shifting with the tides of battle, offering ranged combat
support rather than joining in the crush of melee. As much as
Lorvasa has modernized under the yoke of Imperial Ryudinia, some
things are hard to change.
The Levies are entirely the province of low born Lorvasans. Not
a single recruit to officer comes from the noble castes, keeping
the Peasant Levies out of the chain of command entirely as long
as even the least of a Lancer is on the field. A potential
weakness as the Levies are not trained for command and their
initiative on the battlefields, they have been lucky enough not
to have it exploited too hard yet.
The primary role of the Levies is still logistics and terrain,
though in this case rather than shield walls and volleys of
arrow fire as their ancestors did, the Levies build
fortifications, man artillery pieces and operate crew serviced
weapons. The ambulance carrying people back to the Surgeons,
that’s a Levy driver, the men with shovels digging trenches or
fortifying houses against a siege? Levy workers.
When it comes to war the Levies often fall under the direct
command of Knights if they are available, otherwise following
the Royal Guard chain of command down to the Lancers. Errants do
not take command of Levies however. In the case where there are
no Nobles of sufficient rank and experience to command, it often
falls to the LSS attachment to enact emergency protocol and take
direct command. Failing that the Lorvasan Levies tend to be
paralyzed by the lack of a clear chain of command, typically
resolving to "Hold Until Relieved" as a default position or
suffering severe morale problems.
This had shown as a weakness during the War of Salvation
resulting in a few units of the Levies being pinned down by that
paralysis and wiped out. A few Levy Officers who were fit for
battlefield command in those emergency situations have appeared,
leading victorious assaults (Or at least withdrawing intact)
however this was the exception to that exceptional situation
rather than the rule. The Lorvasa Princes have yet to address
the issue, uncertain of the wisdom of broadening the training
and capability of the Peasant Levies. Some believe it is an
inevitable conclusion, that the Levies will have to be a self
sufficient army rather than a junior service of the Royal Guard.
Others believe that the Lorvasan doctrines work best when Levies
and Royal Guard work in tandem, each with their role, each with
their responsibilities.
Most Lorvasan Levies are non-combat roles. Engineers, logistics,
medical, cooks, barbers, armorers, and the myriad of tasks that
a military needs to operate successfully in the field. Most of
these roles are given minimal equipment and training. Typically
just a uniform, the GL-98 "Liberator" 8 Shot Revolver, and the
tools necessary for their assignments. Lorvasan Levies in these
roles are notorious for their poor performance in combat, and
often being prone to breaking when assaulted by orderly
formations of the Imperial Ryudinians, typically scattering,
hiding, and for the most part meeting up at established muster
points rather than fighting it out.
The militant Levies though are a different manner entirely.
While they will also be assigned the GL-98 “Liberator”, most
will also carry the venerable TK-85 Long Rifle. Militant Levies
are always organized in an ad hoc, as needed formation. Rather
than have regular, standing regiments, divisions, brigades, etc,
the nation stations its Levies at bases large and small around
Lorvasa, where they are meant to maintain readiness and drill
for the (as they see it) inevitable third war with Ryudinia.
When battle comes Levies will be stripped out of bases deemed by
the needs of the unit they are being assigned to, but always
leaving at least a skeleton crew at their post, as it would be
shameful to ever fully abandon a Lorvasan base.
It is the Peasant Levies that man the crew serviced and fixed
weapons of Lorvasa, from the Iron Hammer to the TK-8 Orion or
the Maria Gun Emplacements, giving them a vital role in Lorvasan
doctrine compared to the lighter and smaller units of the Royal
Guard.
- Royal Maritime Defense Force:
The Royal Maritime Defense Force is the formal Naval Command of
Lorvasa. Currently run by Princess Maria Ral’Zarin, the Royal
Maritime Defense Force is nowhere near a proper blue water Navy,
though it desires to be so. The Royal Maritime Defense Force is
a service which is currently under a lot of contention and
doubt. While the High Prince and the Princes recognize that
Lorvasan security demands naval assets to deter invasion from
Ryudinia or other great powers, the Lorvasan economy and
industry is nowhere near up to snuff to produce a proper, proud
navy that is capable of matching these far more established
nations. This combined with the nationalist focus of Lorvasa and
the ancient Lorvasan naval traditions being a point of cultural
pride has lead them to compromise as best they can.
As such the Royal Maritime Defense Force views its primary
mission as protecting Lorvasan Trade at high seas during times
of relative peace, with their planned doctrine in case of war
being to survive and harass to pin down superior navies. Typical
thought among the Naval Command is that should war break out
with Ryudinia (For example) that they would be unable to prevent
Ryudinia from landing on Lorvasa or blockading Lorvasan ports.
Instead they would scatter across the seas, attempting to raid
unprotected Ryudinian shipping, conducting coastal bombardments
of Ryudinian cities, and avoid all contact with the Ryudinian
battle fleets, hoping that the sheer existence of the Lorvasan
Ships will tie down the larger Ryudinian Fleets on what amounts
to wild goose chases.
By the ancient traditions of Lorvasa the Captains of a Naval
Vessel are viewed as independent masters of their own ship and
their own fate. Like the Lorvasan Royal Guard they typically
operate in small, individual units. Typically seen as highly
unusual for even as many as 3 ships to band together in any sort
of formalized squadron (And when they do, command is assigned
via seniority). As such to outsiders the Lorvasan Royal Maritime
Defense Force, despite its name, would seem more like a raider
force filled with privateers and scoundrels than any proper,
gentleman sailing navy. The accountability of independent
captains is practically zero, with only the most flagrant of
offenses bringing the attention of the LSS or Knights Paladin
Brigade if need be. It's lack of a strong command structure
makes it an unruly beast in war (And part of why they have the
doctrine they do), but as it is bound up in the ancient
traditions of Lorvasan Sailors to them it seems quite natural.
Central Command of the Royal Maritime Defense Force is a role
regulated not to vessels but instead the port facilities of
Lorvasa, viewed as an administrative post rather than a battle
command post, where senior captains often retire to handle
logistics as well as general mission assignments to ships. Most
Captains view these officers with a mix of honor and derision
since they had served and survived long enough to earn their
posts, but the lack of current sailing experience makes most
Captains view their orders more as generalized suggestions than
detailed plans of actions, as they could not possibly understand
the reality of the seas.
Defense of these naval stations and coastal defense guns are not
actually the responsibility of the Royal Maritime Defense Force,
but instead split in duties between the Lorvasan Levies and the
Internal Securities Force, locked in a turf war over who should
have the funding and supplies to properly defense Lorvasan
Shores and Bases.
- Internal Securities Forces:
A naval service considered independent of the Royal Maritime
Defense Force. While the Royal Maritime Defense Force focuses on
blue water operations and engaging of enemy assets abroad, the
Internal Securities Force can be more aptly compared to the
Coast Guard. They lack the heavy ships of the Royal Maritime
Defense Force, operating small patrol boats and corvettes
instead along the shoreline. As well they maintain some (not
all) coastal defenses, from coastal defense gun batteries,
maintaining naval mine fields, and even tending to the first few
Coastal Air Patrol bases.
The Internal Securities Force is less concerned with military
operations outside of homeland defense, but more about
regulation and security of civilian traffic into and out of
Lorvasa. It's the Internal Securities Force that handles
merchant visas to Lorvasa, conduct inspections of incoming
freighters and passenger liners, handles maritime rescue
operations, and keeps smuggling down via liberal application of
firepower. Most fleets wouldn't take the Internal Securities
Force seriously as a military threat with their light craft and
relative lack of firepower, not exactly posing a threat to a
proper Dreadnought Battlegroup with Escorts, but it isn’t
something that could be ignored in the case of amphibious
invasion either.
The Internal Securities Force consists of two major divisions
that run down it from the very top (The two Commandants just
below the Castellan) to the lowest ranks. On one hand is the
Civil Branch, focusing on rescue efforts, relief efforts to
Lorvasans, investigations, and anti-espionage work. The other is
the Militant Branch focused on the mission of defending Lorvasan
shores against invaders, often involved in military spats with
the Levies over the ownership and right of coastal bases, as
well as forming the first organized Air Force in Lorvasa with
the Coastal Air Patrol in their C-12 Guardian Biplanes.
- The Lorvasan Security Service:
The Lorvasan Security Service, not to be confused with the
Lorvasan Internal Securities Force, is the not so secret police
of Lorvasan society. An organization which is out of direct
command of the Nobility, established shortly after the War of
Salvation. The LSS’s primary mission is to ensure the loyalty of
Lorvasans, and to keep corruption down to an acceptable and less
than crippling level in Lorvasa.
Most LSS are undercover operatives, assigned to (or recruited
from) various organizations both civilian and military in
Lorvasa to spy for the nation. Technically by the mandate that
the LSS was drafted under, the LSS is only to watch over
Lorvasan Citizens, and refused to have contact with or watch
over foreigners, but in all practicality that requirement was
never adopted. Foreigners are viewed as a source of corruption
by the LSS, making monitoring any foreigners and their influence
inside Lorvasa as critical, and the undercover nature of many of
their operatives makes it impossible not to associate with
foreigners while maintaining cover.
To most Lorvasans however the LSS are best known for their
uniformed officers. Sharp dressed in their dark green uniforms,
they are typically groomed and chosen as much for their
propaganda value and charisma as any actual skill, to serve as
the public face of Lorvasan ideals.
They are not a military formation per se, though the Lorvasan
Security Service trains its officers in proper martial skills.
Fieldcraft, marksmanship, survival, hand to hand combat,
investigative techniques, and more are all standard skills that
LSS Officers are trained under, making them some of the most
dangerous men and women in Lorvasa if underestimated.
Due to their undercover nature, they don't have any standard
assigned equipment as normal. Unusual equipment after all could
blow their cover. However as Lorvasa is a highly militarized,
highly armed state following the War of Salvation, it’s not
unusual even to see civilians with Liberator Revolver at the
very least and thus is the most common arm used by the LSS.
- The Knights Paladin Brigade
The Knights Paladin Brigade serves as the personal eyes of the
High Prince(ss) in Lorvasan Society. Consisting of a single
Brigade, the Knights Paladin have lateral freedom across
Lorvasan Society to go anywhere, do anything, and demand
whatever they wish from Lorvasan citizens. Nothing is secret
from them, nothing is barred, and as a paramilitary
organization, well equipped and trained those who try to evade
the High Prince(ss)'s Eyes tend to end up very, very brutally
put down. Together with the LSS this organization is the mailed
fist that keeps the worst of corruption within Lorvasa's society
down. While not often fielded to battle, when they are, the
Knights Paladin Brigade is equipped similarly to the Lorvasan
Royal Guard, and have proven themselves to be highly
disciplined, highly skilled, accomplishing many decisive
missions during the War of Salvation.

Greetings from Zverskograd,
As the acting head of the Provisional Government of Zverskograd,
I, Sofiya of the Voronin Dynasty, would like to humbly request
an exchange of embassies between our two nations, in an effort
to open an official diplomatic channel to improve the currently
frosty relations between our peoples. I also wish to issue an
official apology on behalf of the Voronin Dynasty for the
atrocities committed by the 5th Imperial Corps during The Great
War. I would offer their commanding officers to you for trial,
but alas, many of them were killed during the junta's invasion
of Boyevostrov, and those that survived shall be facing trial in
the SRR and Celestinia. Makisov himself however, shall be facing
trial in Zverskograd, and rest assured, he will be charged with
the atrocities committed by his soldiers in Lorvasa.

Princess Sofiya Voronina,
I see that Emperor Serafin's enlightenment has reverberated in
yourself as well, and that this is an important first step
towards the respect and enlightenment of both Zverskograd and
Lorvasa.
As you may be aware, the Lorvasan nation has yet to fully be
rebuilt since the War of Salvation. Citizens see the marks of
war everywhere they go, from the cities still damaged, to the
faces of the scarred survivors. A token of good will, a small
contribution to Lorvasan industry to beautify part of Ancient La
Salle, as well as build your Embassy, might go far in smoothing
tensions.
Marked by the Royal Seal
High Prince Vasili Gar'Lorik

High Prince Vasili Gar'Lorik,
I am truly sorry to hear about the linger scars of the war. Your
proposition is a wonderful idea and with the approval of the
other members of the Provisional Government, we have decided to
invest a sum of 2 MK into local Lorvasan industry to aid in the
construction of an embassy and the continuing repairs of the
city. Your diplomats shall be welcome in Zverskograd whenever
they are prepared and an embassy has been set aside for them in
the capital.
Sofiya Voronina
