       Aliens/Other Intelligent Life
By: thatonegayauthor Date: October 15, 2019, 3:13 pm

Are we alone in the universe? It's very unlikely, however, it's
even more unlikely that we are the most intelligent life form.
The universe has existed for a couple billion years (going off
of the big bang theory), which means that there is the
possibility that other life forms have had millions or billions
of years to evolve. Other planets may not have gone through the
same mass extinctions as Earth has, therefore providing the
opportunity for a more advanced evolution.
There are so many ifs though.
What if they took longer to evolve? What if certain planets have
gone through more mass extinctions than Earth?
And how are we able to tell if certain life is intelligent? It
is more than unlikely that they share a common language, or even
common plants, animals, and objects. They may also have a
different way to communicate, that isn't verbal, and taking all
these things into account makes you realize how hard it would be
to understand this intelligent life, even if we did find it.

Not necessarily, while it is true that in an infinite universe,
other life forms must exist, and othe intelligent life forms
       must exist,

since our universe contains an infinite amount of matter, then
every combination of atoms possible will occur more than once.
This means there is an exact duplicate of earth out there
somewhere. Distance means traveling to it may be impractical,
but there is also an infinite number of exact replicas.
However, the infinity theory also would imply that every place
in the universe at some point in time will eventually contain
       every type of atom,
and so even if these alternate Earths exist, then odds are they
exist at different time periods. Despite this, intelligent life
       MUST be out there,
and one day, we will find it. What it will be like, how it will
communicate, and how intelligent it is are anyone's guess, but
       we WILL find them.

enough to hightail it to the other end of the universe"

We must also consider the expansion of space. According to the
theory of The Big Bang, the universe came from an infinitely
dense point in space time and started to expand. As the universe
expands it becomes bigger. There is proof of this expansion from
the redshift in distant galaxy. This a phenomenon where distant
objects become red because red is the longest wavelength of
visible light, and thus only red light can make it to our eyes
because it's the only kind of light that can reach us. As the
the galaxies become reder, we can measure how fast the are
flying away from us. As we measure this, Fermi's paradox starts
to emerge. Fermi's paradox states that as the universe expands,
the chances that we find intelligent life decreases
       exponentially.

We seem to assume aliens will find us. What if we find aliens?

But there is the point to make, that there is likely some sort
of obstacle we have to cross to start to colonize other planets.
IF we are able to find tons of other intelligent life, then it
is very unlikely that we have crossed that obstacle (especially
if they are more intelligent than us). That means that we have
to make it past another milestone that we have not yet crossed.
However, if there is not a lot of intelligent life, then that
means that it is more than likely that we already made it past
that obstacle, whether it was evolving to have a conscience,
leaving our planet, or developing life at all.

Another thing that bothers me, is that scientists are so busy
looking for planets that would support life forms similar to
those on Earth. We have such a diverse combination of animals
here, that it more than likely that other life is incredibly
different to the life on Earth. Different forms of life could
have different needs, not just oxygen, water and food. Maybe
they breathe helium and gain all of their sustenance from the
common liquid on their planet, such as mercury or liquid
       methane.
