Zerato's Story
By: Semiazas Date: April 19, 2012, 3:32 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
My name is Zerato Asus, I'm 18 years old 6 feet tall and
weighing at 135 lbs, and living in Serdin, oh and I'm also an
only child. I guess you can say that being an only child has its
benefits, majority of the time getting the things you want or
need, having your parents full attention, etc… My parents are
very caring, we could live in a much bigger house, but my mom,
Zanna, wants to save the money and just get the things that we
truly needed. She is an interior designer, always leaving to
other houses making them look pretty, but she always finds time
to hang out with me and dad.
My dad, Makoto, is an interesting person…Sometimes I think that
he's just crazy; he's always making new spells of his own, but
not in the normal way. He goes into the basement and makes them
like a mad scientist, but he's a cool guy, he works at Arcanite:
University of Magic, so we have quite a bit of money to spend.
You would kinda guess that I would have an interest in one of
these things that my parents do, I don't want to be a teacher,
but the amount of spells you obtain and the power you hold….that
is what I want. As for interior design….It's just not my thing.
Currently I'm going to school at Serdin's High School of Magic,
it's so boring there. So….Plain.
"All right class, I hope that you practiced the spell I assigned
you."
Ms. Rain heads to the back of the class, placing her hand on it
making the wall disappear temporarily. The whole class gets up
talking amongst themselves; I follow at the back of the group
with my friends; Kenji and Marina.
"Zera…I hope that you actually studied for once." Marina looked
at me with a slight smirk; she knows how much I 'love' to study
"Oh, trust me I actually studied for once. I thought I was going
to die, it was scary."
"Isn't it whenever you do the work you're told to do, you feel
like dying?" Kenji chuckled as he walked through the wall.
"Shut up Kenji…" I walk through the wall zapping him in the back
with a small lightning spark.
Marina sighed and followed us. "I'm serious Zera, I don't want
you making Ms. Rain angry again…"
We caught up with class and stood in a group.
"All right class."
She points to the wall and it becomes whole again.
"Use the spell you've been assigned onto these targets. Do your
best and good luck."
She makes 5 targets appear that will reappear after being
destroyed and moved out of the way letting the students start.
The other classmates lined up in front of the targets preparing
different spells, Ms. Rain nodded letting them release the
spell. I watched them carefully.
"Weak."
Marina looked at me hearing me comment on the others.
"So, what spell did Ms. Rain assign you?"
I don't even know why she asked that question; Ms. Rain told
what spells we were supposed to do out loud.
"Ice Trap…why? What did she give you?"
I didn't really care what she got, but might as well continue
the conversation to kill time.
"Lightning Bolt, why did you get a more complicated spell? This
is only our 4th test."
I sigh sadly, "Yea…only the fourth……. Only twelve more to go."
I slump my shoulders, I didn't want to do this easy garbage. I
wanted something more powerful, more complicated, and more
advanced. But of course, I won't be getting any of that in High
School. I guess you can say that having your dad being a
university teacher has its benefits.
"Cheer up man, all you gotta do is the one spell properly and
you’re done the test."
Kenji fixed his hat and just as he stopped one of the students
failed to even prepare his spell and it back fired. How? I have
no idea. All I saw was him getting drenched by a pillar of
water. All the students stopped their spells and looked at him.
"That's sad."
I shake my head, how can you fail such a simple spell? I just
don't understand that. Ms. Rain walked over to the boy and dried
him off with a strong warm wind.
"Keep practicing, I know you can do it."
She gave a nice smile to the boy and led him away from the line
and let the students continue.
"Kenji, it's almost your turn."
Marina placed a hand on Kenji's shoulder and shook him lightly
It looked like he was staring at nothing, probably lost in his
imagination again. He shook his head and looked at Marina
surprised.
"Huh? What? …….Oh."
He walked over to the targets beside some girl in the class,
knowing him, he won't be able to focus fully.
"Mari, I don't think he's going to do very well…look"
I pointed at the girl beside him, her name was Genevieve, I
guess you could say she's hot, majority of the guys just stare
at her, while the other girls get jealous. Y'know the typical
popular girl thing.
"All I can really do is wish him luck. I can't interfere with
his test or it's an auto-fail for me."
She looked at Genevieve then at Kenji who was still looking at
her.
"Kenji, focus man! Don't let this woman pass you in the test! Or
you will be known as the class failure!"
Yea, Genevieve isn't all that smart, she barely passes the
written assignments that we are handed. Most of the time it
involves 'reading this page, then
provide a situation where this spell is needed' and we don't
have that many textbook work to do. So I just don't understand
how she sucks at this.
"Inferno Tempest!"
Seems that what I said got him to focus, a large fireball came
down slowly towards the target, it didn't look like it was
complete….unless it was supposed to look like it wasn't solid.
"Yawn! Could that thing move any slower?"
Marina smacked the back of my head.
"You idiot, it's supposed to be slow. That's a pretty strong
fire spell."
The spell connected with the target, nothing special happened,
it just got engulfed in an intense fla-…A giant fire pillar shot
up into the sky burning the side of the school, and it then
started to rain fire a bit after the pillar faded away.
"That was intense, but that’s nothing I can't out do."
I said with a smirk and Kenji walked over to us with a big
smile, proud that he performed the spell much better than he
practiced.
"Weren't expecting that, now were you?"
Marina patted his back and smiled.
"You did great. Probably passed with flying colours."
I caught the glimpse of a sarcastic smile when she said "flying
colours" she probably had a plan for her turn.
"Good luck to you Mari."
She walked off and stood in front of the target with the
remaining students, I was last as usual, but I didn't mind it…
actually, I preferred to be last just so I can show-off and
out-do everyone else.
"Lightning Bolt!"
What I was expecting was a yellow stream of lightning but no.
Instead I saw a rainbow of colours, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow,
Purple, Black, and White. I was very impressed, another thing I
noticed, it didn't just travel in the normal lightning fashion
of zigzags, and it twisted, looped, and zigzagged. It felt as if
I was watching fireworks, not a lightning spell. Just as it was
about to hit the target it divided into the separate colours it
had and all struck at once making it rain colourful sparks. The
entire class started to applaud, as if they just finished
watching some act or something. Marina walked back over to us
with a giant smile.
"Didn't have to make a show out of it. Or are you trying to
'fancy' your way into a high mark?"
She punched my arm, and turned away. If you didn't know, she has
a crush on me, I’ve known for a while but she doesn't know that
I know. It's quite interesting playing the 'clueless guy' role.
"S-shut up. Can't you just say "Good job Mari" or "That was
really nice" for once instead of making some smart-ass remark?"
Didn't sound like she was really happy with what I said, it even
sounded that she wanted to cry. Kenji walked over to her to calm
her down, I went to join but Kenji shook his head indicating
that I shouldn't come over. So I just headed over to the
targets. Ms. Rain looked at me in a funny way, and I don't mean
silly funny I mean serious funny.
"Zerato, you better show me something beautiful with the spell I
assigned you."
I'm not one to do a spell for looks, I focus on the end result.
"Ice Trap!"
Sure, I said the spell I was supposed to cast, but my eyes saw
different. My hands weren't releasing an icy magic it was red, a
dark red with toxic bubbles floating around me, I released the
spell it didn't look all that appealing it was dripping some
sort of goo which ate away at the ground, rays of dark red light
shot out of the spell, it connected with the target and it just
splat. The class started to laugh at what they thought was a
failed spell, but the target started to melt away when all the
goo reached the ground it exploded destroying all the other
targets, surprising even scaring some of the students. I grinned
at the success of me casting this spell and turned to my
friends, Marina looked at me disappointed and Kenji gave me a
thumbs up. Then the teacher appeared right in front of me
looking at me angrily.
"I'm very disappointed in you Zerato……"
Before I got to say anything she teleported me to the office,
and led the everyone back into class through the wall that got
destroyed by my spell, but was quickly fixed by Ms. Rain.

I appeared in a chair at the office, Ms. York one of the
secretary looked up to see who came in.
"Oh, nice to see you again Zerato, I'm guessing that explosion
was you."
"Yea, you should have seen it. It didn't look like it, but I bet
Ms. Rain was impressed."
Ms. York softly chuckled.
"I wish I could have seen it, it was probably awesome looking as
usual."
Ms. York and I have become became good friends since I’m always
sent to the office for not doing what I was told to do. She
really appreciates the advanced spells I cast and doesn't get
mad at me, she's a chill person. I wish I had the same relation
with the principle, he's always so…well I want to say rude but
it isn't really rude. Serious, I guess is the word for him. I
sigh; I knew I had to go to his room now, someone just walked
out with him following. As soon as he saw me he placed his hand
on his forehead.
"Let's make this quick ok Zerato?"
He walked back into his office, and I slowly got up, waved to
Ms. York and followed him and took a seat in front of his desk.
He looked at me annoyed as usual.
"Zerato….why must you always cause this trouble and chaos? I
just don't understand, like exploding the side of the school?
What were you thinking?"
I shrug my shoulders, I didn't really care, this place is always
in order. Preppy if you ask me.
"I was thinking that this school could use some change, that’s
what I was thinking. This school is always so plain, nothing
interesting happens, and the spells we're taught suck. There’s
the rare good one to learn bu--"
Mr. Kaps raised his hand stopping me from continuing. He's done
this before; he just doesn't like it when I compare with the
books I read that I get from my dad at the University.
"Why must you always bring that up when you come here? If you
really don't like what we teach here….just leave the school. I
won't stop you from doing so."
He sighs and just shoos me away, not wanting to talk or deal
with me anymore. I think I’ve almost gotten to him. I walk out
of his office, but I stop at the door way and look back at him.
"We'll continue this another day…"
I walk out of the office saying good bye to Ms. York and head
back to class, by the time I reach the door to my class room
everyone was just getting a sheet for something. I went to my
desk and Ms. Rain handed one to me but held the sheet.
"After school, you'll be repeating the test again and if you
continue to not do the spell I assigned you the longer you have
to stay."
She let go of the sheet and walked off to the front of the class
and put the rest of the sheets on her desk.
"I want those sheet signed by your parents, and I want them in
by Friday."
The bell for the end of the day rang and half of the class
teleported out. I was told to wait by Ms. Rain so I can do the
test again.
"Hey, guys, wait for me. Actually, come and watch me pass this
with "Flying Colours" even Ms. Rain will be impressed."
I yelled at Kenji and Marina, Kenji turned to me and shrugged.
"Sure, why not, better make it look good, you seem to get that
talent from your mom."
Marina was still mad at me so she didn't say anything, but I
think I know what to say to cheer her up.
"I'll make it snow hearts after it shatters"
Marina raised an eyebrow then tried to stay mad at me.
"Better be good…."
Ms. Rain heads to the back of the class and opens the wall
again.
"Let's get this over with Zerato, we all want to go home…"
I hurry over to the target with Kenji, Marina and Ms. Rain
watching me prepare the spell. My hands get covered in an icy
blue magic, before releasing it I wave my hands around making
marks in the sky. I then put my hands side by side and push
forwards into the marks.
"Ice Trap!"
The markings I made in the sky disappeared and slowly re-drew
itself on the ground in front of me, once it was finished the
lines started glowing, making a thin, transparent ice wall. In
the walls ice hearts started appearing in random spots, I rose
my hands and in the dead centre of the spell, blue magic started
to gather. Is starts spinning slowly and it grows, forming a
large heart. The magic on the ground disappears as the heart
floats, slowly turning around in the centre. I let my left arm
fall to my side, as I reach out to the Trap. I make a fist and
the entire trap glows, then quickly shatters. As the ice shards
fly everywhere it starts snowing hearts for a short time.
"Is that good enough?"
I turn around to Ms. Rain slightly bored, suddenly Marina
started to cry and Ms. Rain was clapping. I just sighed and
rolled my eyes.
"Zerato, that was beautiful. You have this amazing power and you
choose to ignore me and what I give you. I don't understand.
Does it have to do with me and how I teach? Please, tell me. I
want to see more astounding results from you."
Ms. Rain walked over to me still amazed at the crappy spell I
casted. Seems like she really likes these mediocre spells and
how I cast them.
"There is nothing wrong with the way you teach Ms. Rain, it's
just I don't like the spells this school provides. As you should
know, my dad works at the Arcanite University so I’m always
trying more advanced spells, seeing that I’m still in High
School it will be a while till I can actually use those spells
in a class without getting in trouble."
I look over to Marina who had stopped crying; she walked over to
me and gave me a hug. I hugged her back then detached her from
me holding her shoulders.
"I'm guessing you liked it?"
She sniffled and wiped away a tear.
"Zerato…..That was beautiful. I...I don't really know what else
to say."
She moved away, out of my arms reach and held her arm looking
away. She was blushing, I just know it.
"I'm sorry Zerato, but I can't do anything about the spells the
school provides. If you continue to show these great spells that
I give you….I might even recommend you to the Violet Mage Guild.
It really does seem that you have the potential for that place."
She crosses her arms and gives me a kind smile.
"Just keep up the good work and we'll see."
She takes a few steps then disappears leaving a little splash of
water behind. I look away slightly jealous, for some reason I
just can't master this damn teleporting thing. I don't know why.
Even Kenji and Marina have their own fancy teleporting thing.
Kenji walks up to me and pats me on the shoulder and smiles.
"That was amazing man, you gotta teach me how to do some of that
stuff with the detail and other crap."
I chuckle and look at him while Marina slaps him in the back of
the head knocking off his hat showing his short dark orange
hair. I think she knew the real reason why he wanted to learn
the details and stuff, I’m only heavy on details because of my
mom. Her designing talent just rubs off onto me.
"Can't really teach it, just hang around my mom long enough and
you'll get it."
Marina frowns at me, I guess she didn't want me telling him
anything about how to do it. I just shrug at her.
"All right, I’ll be over this weekend if my mom doesn't freak
out at me for no reason. She has a horrible habit of doing so
when my dad isn't around."
I start walking home, we all live in the same general direction
but we all split up at this one tree that divides the path way.
"Hey Marina, you ok?"
Marina was spacing out, she never does that…maybe I over did it
with the spell. She shakes her head a little and blinks rapidly
a couple times then looks at me.
"Huh? Oh, I'll be fine. Just thinking."
Kenji moves closer to Marina and whispers something in her ear,
must have been something embarrassing or something because she
was blushing so much. I've never seen a person so red before.
She slaps Kenji knocking his hat off again and quickly walks
ahead. I look to Kenji, he had this big red spot on his cheek
where Marina slapped him. I chuckled a bit.
"What did you tell her?"
Marina turns around quickly and shoots a glare to Kenji.
"If you tell him ANYTHING, you won't have your legs tomorrow."
Whoa…must have been something private if she's threatening to
get rid of his legs, Kenji looked at me a little frightened. We
haven't seen Marina like this before, so it was quite
surprising.
"I-I promise. I won't tell him anything."
He reaches down to pick up his hat then looks up to me.
"Must have been something major then….."
Pissed off Marina teleports home, leaving a small explosion
behind. Yea…she's mad, it's always something pink, never an
explosion. I look back at Kenji who was fixing his hat.
"…Guess I should go too. See ya later Zerato."
He turns around and disappears in a burst of fire and smoke. I
throw my hands up in the air.
"It's not fair!!"
I walk home annoyed, when I reached the tree I saw two birds
fighting. And I knew it wasn't playful, I saw feathers on the
ground…it looked like the smaller one was loosing the battle.
Seeing the smaller one get beat up didn't make me happy, but
there was nothing I could do. They were out of my reach, and I
wouldn't dare shoot at the larger one. What if I missed? I
didn't want to watch anymore but I couldn't look away. The
larger bird grabbed the smaller bird and dove down, it swooped
up but letting go of the smaller bird letting it smash into the
ground. Watching that hurt…I might not have been the one
fighting, but it just hurt to watch that bird get beat up. The
larger bird looked like it wasn't finished, it came back around
for another strike. I didn't want to see this anymore, I ran in
the way of the larger bird. It tried to stop but bumped into me,
then flew away.
I turned around and looked at the little bird and knelt beside
it, I tried to revive or heal it but it was no use. My healing
magic sucks so I picked up the little bird and buried it beside
the tree. I know what you're thinking, why would I do this? Why
didn't I walk away and ignore the fighting birds? I have a soft
spot for birds, I always admired how they always fly in the air
with no care of the things on the ground. I wrote in the tree
above the bury spot for the bird "R.I.P Brave little bird.
Kort." I slowly walked the rest of the way home.

Re: Zerato's Story

---------------------------------------------------------
I reach in front of me to push the front door of my house open,
no one really locks their doors in this neighbour-hood it's too
nice and almost everyone knows each other.
"Zerato, is that you!?"
My mom yells at me from upstairs, seems like she's heading out
again.
"Uh huh…"
She comes clopping down the stairs in her high-heels and rushes
to me.
"The school called again, Zera-hun, you can't keep casting the
spells you lean in the text book your father gave you."
She gives me a hug and goes into the kitchen by passing through
the living room.
"Uh huh…"
With a depressed look on my face I kick off my shoes and plop
myself on the couch in the living room and started to play
around with my magic quietly.
"What’s the matter hun? You get in a fight with your friends?"
She said while packing the rest of her stuff for the party, she
has magic too but she doesn't use it that much.
"No…Well, I don't know but that's not why I'm sad."
She stops what she's doing and stays quiet for a little, she
must be thinking of what would be the matter. She walks out of
the kitchen and sits beside me.
"C'mon hun, tell me what’s wrong."
I move around to get comfortable again and I look at her.
"….I feel stupid saying this. I…I saw a small bird get killed by
a larger bird, and I couldn't do anything to help it."
She moved closer to me and held my head leaning it on her
shoulder and started to rub the side of my head.
"Ohh, I'm so sorry hunny."
She tried her best to comfort me…I deeply sigh and slowly move
my head off her shoulder.
"Well, I shouldn't keep you any longer or you'll be late for
whatever it is you're going to."
She got up off the couch and looked at me lovingly, then went to
grab her purse and walked to the door. She paused and turned to
look at me again.
"…I'll see you later hun, hope you feel better."
She opened the door and headed out to the party, shutting the
door behind her. I let out a depressed sigh and head to my room
upstairs, I throw myself on my queen sized bed which was made
this morning.
"What am I going to do…. "
I stare at the ceiling a while thinking of what I could possibly
do to, I turn to my bookshelf that is filled with a variety of
spell books and university textbooks my dad gave me. I never
really got around to reading them; I’ve probably read about 3 or
5 of them. I look at the ceiling again then close my eyes, maybe
a little rest can get my mind off the happenings today….. I
dozed off quickly.
3 Hours Later…
When I opened my eyes my room was dark, yea I was expecting it
to be late but my room was darker than I thought it would be. I
soon found out that my door was closed along with my curtain, I
sat up slowly and slid over to the foot of my bed.
"I guess she's home...”
I quickly got up off my bed only too stumble back down. I held
my forehead and I got a tiny headache, I got up slowly this time
and head towards my door to go to the bathroom. I think she
heard me walking cause she called out to me.
"Zera? Are you awake?"
I shut the bathroom door and did my business. Finished I walked
out after washing my hand and head downstairs, I was pretty
hungry since I didn't eat when I got home. I headed straight for
the kitchen to see if there was any food lying around from
earlier or anything.
"Yea…"
I answered back still a little tired, I open the fridge and grab
the pot of leftover rice and the container of butter chicken,
and I put them on the counter. I open the cupboard door and
pulled out a medium sized plate that had little floral designs
around the rim, I reached down to the drawer and opened it
taking out a large spoon to scoop out the rice. I put some rice
on the plate and pour out what was left of the butter chicken on
top of the rice, I put the pot back in the fridge and tossed the
container into the sink. I put my hand over my food and warmed
it up perfectly, I take out a fork and started mixing the rice
around in the butter chickens sauce, it smelled really good. I
started to eat while walking into the living room where mom was.
She turned her head to me and sniffed the air.
"Eating the rest of the butter chicken I see… Have a good nap?"
She was going through some papers, probably new houses to work
on. She was playing some soft music to keep the mood quiet.
Seems like dad hasn't come home yet.
"Mhmm,"
I walked stood beside her leaning up against the wall still
eating.
"So..how was the party?"
She started dividing the papers into groups, not sure why… I ate
some more of my food, I love butter chicken.
"It was good, nothing special really…"
She looks at me, probably knowing what other things I was
thinking about.
"He should be here in an hour."
I raise an eyebrow, then smile a little.
"You know me too well."
She stops organizing her papers and gets up from the desk she
was sitting at and steals a piece of my butter chicken. Usually
at her parties she doesn't get real food, just snacks and stuff.
I only know because she takes me to them sometimes, only if she
knows they will be really boring.
"Well, I am your mother after all. Anyway, I’m gonna head up, I
gotta leave early."
She kisses me on the forehead and heads upstairs to her room. I
ate the rest of my food, I went into the kitchen and put my
plate in the sink, then I went to the basement, I felt like
playing around with some spells. Our basement was large and
enhanced with magic so if anything went wrong in the room it
would only affect this room, say it got flooded to the roof of
the basement, it wouldn't be able to make its way to the
upstairs because of the magic. I had that Ice Trap stuck in my
head, yea it was cool, but it was too pretty for my liking, I
could give it that "Zerato Touch" to it and make it a hell lot
better for fighting and actually making it more trap like. I
moved over to an area that was empty and spacious.
"Ice Trap"
My hands got covered in that Icy blue magic again, I didn't do
the scribbles in the air this time, that was really just for
show. Instead I planted both of my hands on the ground and an
ice trail traveled along the ground making a large enough circle
that could probably surround around 10 to 15 people, this time I
made the wall thick, I left an opening so I could see what
happens on the inside and if there was anything I could improve
on or change. On the outside the wall seemed rough like a cave
wall but made of ice, the inside was nice and smooth, I then
send a chilling wave along the ground and piles of ice grew,
that’s how the people would get trapped. I removed one hand from
the ground and placed it on the wall, I sent some more magic
through it and shards grew from the inner wall. The basement was
getting cold, I could see my breath, so I hurried the end even
though it's what I focus on… So, I destroy the wall sending ice
shards all over the place, you could hear the sound of
shattering ice echo in the room. Sloppy finish, I could have
done better but I was getting too cold to focus. Not the biggest
fan of the cold by the way.
"…."
I had to go and open the vent to let out the cold air.
"Jeez, the opponent will die of hypothermia before my spell
finishes."
I'd usually go and practice more spells, but the cold was
bothering me too much so I just went back upstairs. Almost at
the top of the stairs the door opens but no one walked in, I
stop and look at the door and thought for a moment. Was it dad?
Can't be though…it hasn't been an hour or even near it. A
shadowed figure walked through the door way, I panicked as soon
as I saw it and slapped the wall, sending an Ice Trail along the
wall, it then jumped at the figure and quickly bound him to the
back wall. I wanted to smile at the fast thinking reaction but I
was too focused on the intruder, I took a few steps towards it.
A growl came from it and shattered the trap, a smoke started
coming from its feet and it began to approach me, I caught a
glimpse of its eyes. They were a dark purple and they were
releasing a soft glow, it lifted its arm and pointed at me my
heart raced I don't know why, I usually fight monsters outside
so why did this one scare me?
"Who are you?!"
I exclaimed taking more steps back nearly tripping, I was
walking backwards on stairs after all. The thing let out a
Hurrring noise and magic started to gather at the tip of his
finger. It…feels heavy, intense, and very lethal, the magic
compresses itself making a small orb and fired it at me. It was
so fast I couldn't even think about dodging it, so I crossed my
arms in front of me and put up a barrier but it got shattered
right away when the orb collided with it. I honestly thought I
was going to die right there, the figure even started to laugh
maniacally. What I didn't notice was after my shield got
destroyed the orb disappeared, I started feeling around to see
if I wasn't dreaming or something. I quickly look at him and
yell.
"What's so funny?!"
It continued to laugh, but….it started to sound more human than
a demonic laugh. The darkness on the figure started to
disappear, and I started to see the real form. I was shocked,
annoyed and a bunch of other feelings, I ran at him pushed him
against the wall.
"Oh my god, I hate you. Why did you scare me like that?! "
He started to calm down, and gave me a smile.
"I just wanted to see what you would do in a situation like
this. To see if you are good enough to go out in a dangerous
place filled with monsters, cause you'll never know what you'll
see."
I turned away from him and walked through the door and into the
living room. I'm surprised I haven't severely hurt anyone yet
cause I’m pretty pissed off now. My dad pokes his head from
around the corner, he doesn't know what happened today to me.
"Hm? What’s wrong Zerato? Something did seem off about you when
you attacked me. Did something happen today?"
I didn't look at him.
"If you want to know go ask mom….And you should know that I
already go out to test my spells on wild monsters. Only reason I
freaked out was because the 'monster' was in my house and it
wasn't expected, I’ll be sure to stay on guard from now on."
He comes out from around the corner and stands beside me, he
places a hand on my head and looked at me a little worried.
"I don't want to find out by talking to Zanna, I wanna know
about it from you…. C'mon tell me."
He ruffles my hair and I move away.
"I'm not in the mood dad…."
I head upstairs without saying good night.
"Well….Good Night I guess…"
He rubs the back of his head and looks down.
"I think I should say "Hi" first next time…"
I walk into my room, changing into more comfortable sleeping
clothes. I walk to the window and look out to the night-time
neighbourhood, it was lit softly by the street lights. Always
calm looking, even when filled with people….. I go back to my
bed and cover up, hopefully tomorrow will be better. I soon
drift off into sleep.

"I still don't understand why you would do that. I know you
didn't know what happened but still…"
Zanna opens her make-up drawer taking out her lip gloss, blush,
eye liner, and mascara and starts with her eye liner. Makoto
sits up watching her and sighs.
"Don't worry about it. He probably forgot about the whole
happening, but I’ll still go apologize before I head out."
She puts down the eye liner pencil and picks up her mascara and
moves a little closer to the mirror so she can clearly see what
she's doing.
"Good, now go and make us some breakfast, and try not to burn
whatever you're making."
She stops for a moment and shakes her head.
"I don't see how you manage to burn breakfast when you use your
magic all the time. You're a university teacher!"
She returns to applying her mascara and Makoto swings his legs
over the side of the bed and stands up pulling the bed sheet
with him. He looks at the sheet and gets slightly annoyed, he
grabs it and throws it in the air hiding behind it. When the
sheet falls back on the bed he was fully dressed and the bed was
made. Zanna smiled and softly chuckled as she puts away her
mascara and starts applying her blush.
"What's so funny?"
"Your little act. You do it almost every morning."
She opens the drawer and places all her make-up in their proper
places, but kept the lip gloss on the dresser, Makoto walked
over to his wife and wrapped his arms around her waist and
kissed her on the cheek.
"I just have to do it. I've been doing it for so long, I
wouldn't feel like myself if I didn't do it… Anyway I’ll go make
you something special."
She holds onto his hands and kisses him back and says back with
a smile.
"Just don't burn it."
Makoto just looks at her through the mirror and disappears in a
grey mist. She just shakes her head and quietly says to herself.
"Always need to make scene…"
A soft glow of purple eyes appeared at the entrance of the room.
" I'm still here..."
She turns to the eyes and looks at them carefully.
"Then my breakfast must be done."
The eyes look around suspiciously.
"…..I should get started on that."
"Forget it, I’ll just take an energy drink with me."
She reaches for her purse and starts walking out of the room and
heads downstairs.
"Hun, stop fooling around, get breakfast ready for Zera."
Makoto walks out of the kitchen and looks at Zanna.
"What are you talking about? That's what I’ve been doing, can't
you smell the food?"
She sniffs the air and smells something burnt and continues to
walk towards the kitchen.
"Oh, you mean that burnt smell?"
Makoto looks back in the kitchen quickly and moves quickly to
the stove to turn it off.
"You made me burn breakfast…."
She walks up behind him and rests her arms on his shoulder.
"I think you should just stick with cold breakfast. Nothing
wrong with cereal."
Makoto sighs and points at the burnt food on the stove and
everything was instantly cleaned, Zanna looks around for those
floating purple eyes that
she saw upstairs.
"Zera hun, is that you?"
There was no response, and Mokoto looks at Zanna.
"Zerato is awake?"
"Yea, well I think so… Cause I saw a pair of floating purple
eyes..but you know the things you can do with magic."
Zanna heads over to the fridge and takes out a 1.5L bottle
that's half empty from yesterday and fits it in her purse.
"Yea, that’s true. Well, you best be on your way, I don't want
you being late."
Makoto walks up behind her, and hugs and kisses her.
"All right, I’ll see you later tonight. Love you."
She kisses him back, and disappears, leaving a soft, sweet
smelling red dust behind.
"I love it when she does that."
He smiles softly and closes the fridge. He then turns his
attention to the closet of dry foods.
"Cereal hmm?"
He rummages through the closet finding much more than cereal. He
found things like Pasta, Canned foods, Beans, etc…
"I didn't know we had all this stuff…"
He takes out a box of cereal and places it on the counter, then
he takes out a medium sized bowl and puts it beside the box. He
starts opening the box of cereal and pours it into the bowl.
"Oh, right…the milk."
Makoto opens the fridge by pointing at it and makes the carton
of milk float out and over the bowl of cereal. It starts to pour
itself into the cereal then returns to the fridge.
"So simple…So boring."
He walks out of the kitchen and stops at the foot of the stairs.
"ZERATO WAKE UP! YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE!"
When he turned around he found me already at the table eating
the cereal.
"You didn't have to yell…I was already here, and I’m not going
to be late."
He raises a brow as I take another spoon full of the cereal.
"How did you get here without me sensing your magical
signature?"
"By learning."
I take another spoon full then drink the remaining cereal and
milk.
"How can you…never mind, sometimes I forget who I’m talking to"
He rubs the back of his head and leaves the kitchen, but stops
by the archway leading to the living room.
"And I’m sorry about last night…"
"Don't worry about it, next time I won't hesitate."
I get up from the table dragging my chair along ground
scratching it. I walk over towards the sink and place the bowl
in it and rinse it out.
"Thanks for breakfast."
I walk past him and over to stairs to pick up my school bag and
walked out the door heading to school.
"Good bye to you too….."
He walks back up stairs and stops in the middle and sits down
and quietly looks up at the ceiling.
"Seriously…How did he pass me without me knowing??"
A few steps out the door and I out already see Marina and Kenji
waiting at the intersection of the path. As I got closer I
softly smiled, Kenji was still wearing a hat but has a different
design on it. This time it has flame designs with different
shades of orange, his shirt consisted of two separate shirts; an
orange collared t-shirt and a thin black t-shirt on top with the
orange collar hanging over. Dark blue jeans that seemed
brand-new, but I knew they weren't I've seen him wear them
before. As for Marina, she's wearing...what the hell is she
wearing?
"Mari...what is this?"
She looks at me with an attitude with her arms crossed.
"What is what?"
Her tone of voice was rude, I had no idea on what is up with her
look and her attitude. She shifted her weight on her leg to her
right and watched me get closer. She had this punk theme going
on, her hair is now a darker pink and curled instead of having
it straight. A hot pink long-sleeve shirt with black and a
lighter shade of the pink stripes, a dark pink mini skirt with
black leggings and black slipper-like shoes.
"Do I have to point out the obvious?"
Her watch turned into a glare then she looked away facing the
pathway to school.
"You have no need to know. Now let's get going."
She started walking ahead of me and Kenji, knowing she would be
able to hear my whispers to Kenji I send telepathic messages to
him instead as we continue down the path.
"Do you know why Marina is all dressed up like this? And what
the hell is up with her attitude, this isn't like her to change
to something like...this in such short notice."
"I don't know man...but when I met up with her this morning she
didn't have this attitude, not until we saw you. I think she's
trying to send you a message or something I dunno."
Marina abruptly stopped walking and turned to us getting close
to my face, I didn't move I only stared back at her with my
emotionless grey eyes.
"Why are you two so quiet?"
"Why does it matter to you? The way you're acting this morning
doesn't seem like you want anything to bother you so we'll just
walk in silence for once."
She let out a soft growl and backed off continuing her way to
school which was just up ahead. Kenji looks at me giving me
'What was that about?' look.
I shrug, as we got closer to school I started to hear yelling,
I'm sure the others could hear it as well.
"Hey Marina! What's going on up there?"
She kept walking as if she couldn't hear me, shoving her way
into the crowd and into the school. I quicken my pace and walk
up to the crowd, I peer over the shoulders of some of the people
standing there. It was a magic fight between Jake the school
bully and another student in the school that I don't see very
often.
"Should have known..."
Kenji stays in the crowd as I walk towards the fight focusing my
eyes on Jake.
"Picking another fight eh Jake?"
He stopped to look at me with his fist glowing a light blue that
was close to the boys face. He smiled and stood up properly and
started to make his way to me.
"If it isn't my favorite customer Zerato. How you been buddy?"
I give off a little flare of magic showing that I’m not in the
mood and I stare at him coldly.
"Don't speak to me as if we are friends, I hate it. So can you
explain to me why this kid over here is injured?"
He chuckled and reached to my shoulder to wrap his arm around me
as if we were friends. I knocked his arm away from me slightly
annoyed.
"Now now Zerato, no need to be so rude. I'm just trying to be
nice to you, I don't want to hurt my 'best friend' now would I?
As for him, he wasn't cooperating with my requests. I gave him
several warnings but he wouldn't listen."
It might not have sounded like it but I could tell he was being
sarcastic about being nice to me, he's just trying to get under
my skin and piss me off.
This sadly is working, but only because of yesterdays happening
and this morning with Marina.
"Alright...listen. I'm not in the greatest mood this morning so
apologize to the kid so I don't have to waste you."
He burst out laughing and a few of the people in the crowd
softly chuckled.
"Look. Zerato. You could never 'waste' me no matter how hard you
train. I just out-class you, that's all to it."
Him of all people calling me weak hit the final button, my body
was suddenly engulfed in a dark purple magic. He backed off
quickly startled by the sudden appearance of magic. My head was
tilted down looking at the ground, my eyes shadowed over. My
stance started to change, slowly getting into a ramming
position, but Kenji quickly grabbed my shoulder sending a
burning sensation through my body and cancelling my aura. I
started to calm down standing up properly
"Dude...chillax, you don't need to waste your energy on a
nobody. Just let it go, we have more important things to pay
attention to right now."
I pulled away from Kenji and stormed into the school searching
for Marina, Kenji looked at Jake and quickly said.
"You better watch yourself, Zera could finish you in a matter of
seconds if he doesn't decide to play with you first."
Then he ran in after me leaving Jake and everyone else outside.
I turned a corner in the hall and spotted Marina standing at her
locker, the door was open in the way so she couldn't see me.
"Marina Silverlight, come here. I need to speak to you. Now!"
I started to act angry at her, but I wasn't really. Only
pretending, but you couldn't tell if I was or not. I could hear
the sound of something snapping behind the locker door, she
quickly looked at me and let out another growl.
"What do you want?"
Again with her rude tone. I continued to act angry. Trying to
get her to spill out why she's acting this way and dressed this
way.
"First of all don't give me this attitude cause I won't take it.
Second why are you being all bitchy this morning? Is it because
of what Kenji said to you yesterday?"
She went a little wide-eyed then her stare was angry, she raised
her hand getting ready to slap me, but I grabbed her wrist.
"You can hit me all you want, but I’m going to continue to
pursue this until I get an answer out of you. Do you
understand?"
She tried to pull away from my grip but I was holding it tightly
and she stopped struggling. Her eyes calmed down and I loosened
my grip.
"Are you ready to talk?"
She lightly nodded.
"I'm sorry...I just... Kenji is an idiot..I won't tell you what
he said cause it's something personal. Something that only he
knows, but I’d appreciate it if
you just left me alone today. Things will be back to normal
sooner than you think, I promise."
"Okay, I won't bother you about it...but will we still be
walking as a group home like we always do?"
I let go of her wrist and she nodded with a content smile.
"Of course, I’m not going to let my problem interfere with
something we've been doing for years."
She giggled a bit.
"But I’m not changing, I rather enjoy dressing like this. It's
so much fun."

Kenji softly sighed as he passed a couple of classrooms
wondering where we were, he finally spots me walking around the
corner after having my small chat with Marina. He rushed over to
me calling my name as he got closer.
"Hey Zera..."
He paused and looked over to Marina and lightly nodded.
"So are things sorted out?"
Marina and I nod.
"Well see you after school then Mari."
"Mhmm..."
"C'mon Kenji, we gotta get to 'hell' before the bell rings."
Kenji smirked and walked with me to class.
"So...why did you let Jake get to you like that? I know the
happening with Marina and stuff is a lot but I kinda expected
you to be a little stronger than that."
"Don't bother me about it."
"Sorry."
Kenji and I walked the rest of the way to class in silence, the
bell rang and Ms. Rain quickly rose up from behind her desk and
started to take attendance, she began calling out names, when
she got to Marinas she wasn't here yet. It's been about 5
minutes and Marina still hasn't came into class yet, then she
walked in with that punk attitude from earlier. I still didn't
like it but nothing I could really do about it, but I knew that
things would be fine by the end of the day...hopefully. Ms. Rain
looked over to Marina shocked.
"Ms. Silverlight, why are you late?"
She asked curiously, Marina just ignored her and sat down at the
back of the class quietly.
"Ms. Silverlight, answer my question."
"How about you forget about me being late and continue with the
class. Hm?"
Ms. Rain stayed silent and marked Marina late then walked to her
desk and took out a pile of papers, she swiped at them making
the papers fly all over the place. They pause in mid air then
fly out to each student in the room landing on their desks
perfectly. Ms. Rain looks out to the class with the normal
teacher stare.
"Read the sheet, answer the questions. Simple as that, once
finished bring the sheet to me and I'll give you a new task."
I was a little surprised at how she explained on what to do, it
was so....I don't know, it just didn't seem like what Ms. Rain
would say. I start to hear a crackling sounds, like sparks
jumping and stuff, I turn back to look at Marina and I see her
desk jumping with black electricity around it and the paper
suddenly bursts into flames. You'd figure that the paper was no
more but it appeared on the teachers desk completed. I quietly
chuckled then began to work on the sheet of questions while
thinking to myself on how I'll enjoy this new attitude that
Marina has. I won't be the only bad ass in the class for once.
Kenji looked over to Marina slightly worried, but he doesn't
know that she's just acting now.
More students walk up to Ms. Rain's desk and dropped off their
sheets, returning to their desks and talked among themselves
waiting on what to be told to do next. I finished my sheet but I
didn't bring it up to her, I just left it on my desk and I
started to tilt my chair back balancing it a bit relaxing and
thinking about the spells and on how I could make them be better
than the original. My desk started to get wet and my sheet sinks
into my desk, looks like Ms. Rain was getting my sheet. She
stands up and looks at the class then fixes her stare to Marina
and speaks to the class.
"We're going to have a visitor from the Violet Mage Guild
tomorrow so I expect you all to be on your best behavior."
She looks at me as she finishes talking.
"Especially you Zerato, we don't need anything exploding while
he is here."
I keep balancing on my seat and I nod.
"Sure thing."
"I'm serious Zerato, no tricks. This is an important visit."
I continue balancing on my chair nodding carelessly, for some
reason Ms. Rain narrowed her glare on me and lifted my chair and
I quickly hold on to it in a slight panic.
"Okay, okay. I won't pull any tricks. Jeez..."
I stare back at Ms. Rain a little confused to why she's acting
like this today, like...is it get ****ed-off day or something? I
don't really understand, she lowered my chair back on the ground
and I sat in my chair properly and listened while Kenji
snickered. I glanced over to him quickly with a small smile.
"Shut it..hehe.."
Kenji fixed his hat and I saw an odd spark in his eye something
did seem off with him as well. I then looked out to the rest of
the students, something with them too seemed to be different. I
was really confused, I had no idea what was wrong with them. I
started to get deep in thought, completely shutting out everyone
else trying to figure out what was going on. I train of thought
wa broken by Marina, Kenji, and Ms. Rain shouting my name, all
of them standing by the door.
"Zerato, get your ass over here. We're going."
Marina yelled at me once again with her rude tone of voice, I
smirked and got up from my desk but something started to feel
different.....like something was disrupting my magic. I held my
forehead as I started to get a headache, I tried cancelling out
whatever it was by building up the magic in me but it had no
effect. Before I knew it my vision began to fade and I
collapsed. I blacked out. When I woke up I was against the wall
with someone holding me there, I tried to move but I was in a
lot more pain than I remember. I then heard a voice I wish I
didn't wake up to.
"You truely are pathetic you know that Zerato?"
I weakly growled hearing Jake calling me pathetic, but I still
wondered what the hell happened. I struggled again under his
hold but he just shoved me back into the wall making my headache
worse.
"Get off me Jake, this is your only warning..."
He chuckled.
"I love how you still try to act tough even though you've been
completely beaten up."
"What the hell did you do to me?"
My voice was angry, a spark jumped off me landing on his arm
making him pull back quickly in reaction. He looked at me and
went to shove me back into the wall, but my magic surged quickly
flowing around me in a dark purple stream.
"Tch...you still can't beat me in your condition."
Jake started gathering earth type magic in his fist and threw a
punch at me, but the magic flowing around me stopped his punch
like it was nothing, the magic flowed around his fist and
climbed up his arm. He jerked his arm back trying to get away
from the magic, but his arm didn't budge.
"What the hell is this? Let go of me and fight me properly, you
coward!"
I chuckled and stood infront of him, the magic flowed immensly
continuing to climb his body, moving onto his shoulder spreading
quickly. Spikes started to form out of the magic, and stabbing
all the area that it covered. Jake yelled out in pain still
trying to pull away, I walk up to him with a nasty grin.
"I'll ask you again. What did you do to me?"
As I got closer to him the magic spread a lot faster. Scared,
Jake quickly yells out what he did to me.
"I placed an illusion barrier on the entrance of the classroom,
it only affected you. No one else, then I beat up on
you with no one knowing."
More spikes formed stabbing him more and he cried out in more
pain.
"Gahh! L-let me go!!"
I chuckled, moving closer to him to the point where my nose was
touching his.
"And why should I listen to you after you refused to let me go?
Why should I give you mercy when you didn't give me any?"
Blood started to drip down is arm and torso.
"Looks like you're bleeding..."
I look at him disappointed.
"And here I thought I was the 'Pathetic' one."
Jake grunted from the pain and magic surged through him, he
tried to counter my magic but it was far too much for him.
"Just...get off me. You won the fight..urrg..."
I pondered for a bit.
"You're right."
The magic pulled back off of him and the spikes subsided, Jake
held onto his arm which took most of the stabbing and looked at
me hurt, even panting a bit.
"You're sick..."
He mumbled and walked away, I stood there and watched him still
hurt from him beating me up, but that feeling....I don't usually
get the intent to kill. Something else must have effected me
other than his stupid illusion, I didn't have time to think
about it. I had to get to class...but this magic is still
surrounding me even though I've calmed down. I tried to ignore
it and I headed to class, as I neared the entrance everyone in
class started walking out. When a few of the students noticed me
they stopped moving righting and stared at me making everyone
else who wasn't paying attention, bump into each other. They all
looked up to see what the problem was and they also stared, I
could hear from inside the class Ms. Rain yelling at them.
"Keep moving!"
She made it to the entrance of the class and saw me and was just
shocked, she hurried over to me telling some of the students to
move out of the way.
"Zerato, what happened?"
As she neared me I panicked.
"Don't get close!"
My shoulders jerked up and I looked at the ground, she stopped
in he tracks and looked at me worriedly.
"Zerato..."
She said my name again, this time softer.
"Please tell me what happened, and why is your magic flowing
around you like that?"
I softly sighed, then I heard Marina yelling my name. She was
probably the most worried out of everyone there, she shoved her
way though the group of students but was stopped by Ms. Rain.
"Zerato!"
She cried my name as she saw me beat up and my magic all wierd.
"Zerato what's wrong with you?! What happened?!"
"Marina...please, calm down. I don't think yelling at him will
make anything better."
She looked away from me and began to cry a little.
"Marina...I'm fine, I'm here, breathing right? And Ms. Rain, it
was Jake who did this to me....but I'm not sure about my magic,
at first I thought it was just me getting angry but I think
something is either disturbing my magic or I've lost control of
it. But I doubt that I lost control of my magic though, I'm not
that weak, and you know that
Ms. Rain."
"Yes I do know that, and i'll be sure to talk to Jake once I see
him, but your magic still worries me. It's not natural..."
I could sense it, actually anyone should be able to sense it.
The anger building up in Marina, then suddenly she vanished in
an explosion of black lightning, shooting sparks everywhere but
Ms. Rain caught them and dispelled them before they got near
anyone. I looked in the crowd for Kenji but there was no sight
of him and I thought to myself. "Where did he go? Where could he
possibly go? It's not like him to run off like that or at all
for that matter."
"Hey..Ms. Rain, where's Kenji?"
"Wasn't he with you? Cause he hasn't arrived to class yet."
I shook my head and looked around again, I was a little worried
about where he could have gone. Jake said that the illusion
spell only effected me, no one else so now i'm really curious to
what happend to him.
