I'll Play The Blues For You

( inspired by I'll Play The Blues For You by Daniel Castro )
V crossed the room toward her as she chose a song on his
jukebox, quietly stepping up behind the woman with at least a
foot between them, and as soon as she turned, she was in his
arms. This wasn't the usual stance for a dancing couple, but he
had wanted to hold onto someone for so long, and to be given a
reminder of what that felt like. Helene was more than willing to
let him have this experience; she understood his past hurt, that
he was still hurting to this day, and the pair of them ignored
the fact that they were not actually a couple as they danced.
She allowed herself to rest lay her head upon his broad chest,
padded with the material that kept him both safe and invisible,
hiding every scar that was there beneath it all. V dropped his
chin down to rest atop her head and simply continued holding
her, as they moved slowly in small circles about the open space.
He had debated on lending his voice along with the artist, but
second guessed himself too soon to even challenge the idea.
Helene could sing well, he knew this, so there was some sort of
insecurity relating to his own abilities, but this was him to a
t because he feared scaring her off. Raising her head, the woman
chose to gaze up at him for a little while, ever wondering what
the face behind the mask looked like, never having been given a
clear response to proddings everytime she broached the topic
with him and she remained curious. Her hands then lifted,
slowly, fingers resting on either side of the mask as if to pull
it away from the unknown face beneath it, but his own hands flew
up to stop her from doing so all too quickly.
' Helene, please.. ' was all he said, bringing her hands back
down to his chest where they were resting before, then taking a
few steps away from the woman as he was now fretting being too
close, should she attempt the same again.
' I'm sorry, V. I hate not knowing what you look like.. that
need is greater than any I have ever had in my life, ' she
states, pulling her arms back up to warm herself from the chill
he left when he let her out of his arms. ' I would love to see
you, just once, but I won't push you. '
V tipped his face downward just a fraction, as if to bow his
head in shame to hide from the fact she had been longing for
that vision for some months now and he had denied her the
satisfaction every single time. He brought his right hand up to
hold over his heart in silent apology, about to turn and exit
the main room, before the jukebox began another track and the
words that followed tugged at his emotions as it seemed to tug
at hers, too. The look in her eyes was one of pure longing, but
he did not understand the full extent of said longing, always
unsure of himself in his ability to read what he considered
impossible expressions on anothers face, especially when the
expression itself rested in the eyes alone. Hers were not so
simple - she's always got large, brown, doe eyes that draw him
in, he realises, but they were not as clear to him as the pages
of a book.
god help me if i'm right
god help me if i'm wrong
don't wanna put up a fight
but you've been gone too long
i need to see you
Helene approached him again as his gaze remained fixed on her
and this time he did not move back away from her, instead he
opened his arms for her to get as close to his chest as she was
able, her hands finding their place there once more. V's hands
covered her own as he brought them up to his mask, silent as he
did so, but his silence was clearly understood given his actions
and she released a long sigh, while she heard the thumping of
his heart against his ribs. A soft smile rested on her face and
a twinkle found its way into her eyes as she slowly pulled the
mask away from his face to finally see the man beneath it all.
The wig he wore came free with it as she pulled it down to the
side of them, keeping it clasped in one hand, but tears began to
slide down her cheeks at the sight before her. He seemed to
mistake her sadness as believing him to be as vile looking as he
thought he was and he went to turn away once more, but she
dropped the mask on the ground with a clutter and grasped his
upper arms to keep him still in front of her. Through her tears,
there was still a smile upon her face and it seemed to brighten
all the more the longer she looked up at him.
There was scarring everywhere she looked; the end result of
being burned alive, or so it looked to her. It was horrendous,
the damage that had been caused by what he had gone through all
those years ago, but she did not shy away from him, nor did she
make any remarks. Instead, she stood on tiptoes, her hands
coming up to hold onto his shoulders as she pressed her lips to
the end of his nose. V was understandably taken back by just how
forward she was being with him, especially now that she knew
what he looked like and what he was always trying to hide, but
his arms secured tight around her waist as he gave her a tight
squeeze. The man lost all strength in his legs as he dropped to
his knees in front of her, hugging her waist to be sure she was
real and she was still right there adoring him regardless of
what he looked like. He pressed the side of his face against her
stomach, arms tight around her midsection as her hands came up
to run her fingers through the patchy mounds of hair that
remained on his head, unphased by his current condition because
to her, she still found him beautiful. She already loved him.
They were nothing more than friends, or had been for some time,
but there was something stirring inside of her now as he had
allowed himself to be so vulnerable, never having shown anyone
even an inch of his body since the accident. He held her
tighter, hugging her closer still as his tears rolled from his
eyes and soaked the thin material of her shirt, before she
encouraged him to stand again if he could and rested one hand on
the side of his face, guiding him down to her level, where she
offered a gentle kiss to his lips. They were not totally smooth
as they had been a long time ago. She'd anticipated that, of
course, but it did not take away from the fact that the pair of
them felt the familiarity of love as soon as he kissed her back.
' Helene.. ' he breathed against her mouth, pulling her so close
into his arms that she came up a little off the ground and
gasped, her smile wider as she gave him another kiss, her own
arms winding around his neck for some stability as her fingers
gently brushed his cheek, but his scarring there was softer than
silk and she let him know this, as her kisses moved to every
inch of his face to chase away any remaining self doubt he had.
' Thank you for loving me. '
' V, you don't know just how much, ' she confessed, both their
words bringing tears to her eyes again as he rested his forehead
against her own.

See that gif above right there? See it? That's me right now. I'm
a freaking mess because I now ship the hell out of Helene and V.
The love she has for him ( and he for her ) is so pure that it
transcends barriers. What he thought she thought of him in
terms of his appearance damn near broke my heart and when she
just smiled as it got brighter and brighter the more I cried out
of happiness for him. I freaking lost it at 'Thank you for
loving me.' I just. Please please please for the love of the
gods and all that is sacred and holy tell me you're seriously
looking for an agent and publishing house because you were born
to write. I felt like I was intruding on Helene and V in a very
private vulnerable moment. I was there I tell you! Also, please
tell me you'll pick this one up every once and a while and add
to it because like I said before, I ship them so damn hard now.
P.S. I've fallen for the song as well that inspired this piece.
So much so that I hunted down the band's website and signed up
for the newsletter. Thank you thank you thank you! <333
