The following day was a blur after a whirl wind visit to my
loving yet overbearing Mother we were herded back aboard the
plane and sent off for parts unknown. For the next two months
none of us truly knew exactly just where on Earth we were or
where we were going next. Inbetween briefing the guys on set
lists and interview schedules Axl and I were attempting to plan
a wedding due to Richie's work schedule he ended up spending a
week with me and then flying back to Jersey. Axl became my ever
dutiful and long suffering helper as we plunged head first into
the world of wedding planning. Which to our credit wasn't so bad
but there were a few tense moments that resulted in both of us
throwing wedding favor samples and cake samples as one another.
       October
"Well, what about the red velvet? That's always been one of your
       favorites."
Axl was grasping at straws about our cake choices and I was near
tears over wedding colors I was caught between teal or red and
couldn't focus on either at the moment. We had a set in stone
wedding date for the first of next July giving us the next
eleven months to work things out.
I threw down my pen and note pad and shot a look of total
despair at him from across the aisle of the bus. We were bound
for another venue and we still had no clue where we were.
"I'd be fine with red velvet cake if Slash wasn't lactose
intolerant. What about lemon cake with butter cream frosting?
       Simple and to the point."
Axl nodded and jotted it down next to the many checklists I'd
given him over the last two months.
"Now we're on to wedding colors. What are you down to now,
       Shell?"
I sighed as I looked down at my list of colors which had ranged
from every colors under the sun to just shades of grey.
"Teal or Red. To be honest I can't decide. Here, you look at the
       swatches."
Axl titled his head from side to side as he looked over my
       shoulder.
"Well, I hate to tell you this but if you put me in a red bow
tie it'll blend in with my hair."
"Alright...so red's off the list of colors then..."
I crossed off red from the list circled teal and glanced over at
       the dressing room door.
I flopped back down next to Axl and proceeded to take a vote on
       wedding favors.
"Those opposed to candy almonds say aye."
Five ayes were heard and I crossed off candy almonds as part of
       the wedding favors.
Slash was turning a towel around his head into a turban and
       thought for a second.
"What about bubbles or something? Or candles? Oh dear god...I'm
       turning into a chick.

Forget I even said anything,ok? This wedding stuff is driving me
       crazy."
I thought it over for a second and considered the possibilities.
"No, I like it. We're unconvential anyway so it fits I suppose."
I was over come with an image of Steven being goaded into
drinking a bottle of bubbles for a dollar and quickly nixed the
       idea.
"On the other hand, why don't we just let the geusts take home a
       center piece or something?"
Axl looked at me and all but read my mind when he muttered as he
       jotted down
       "Non toxic center pieces..."

       June 30, 1993
"What do you mean you lost your pants?!"
I was pacing around the house amidst newly packed boxes that
signaled the ending of an era. I had tried to pack as little as
possible and insisted that the guys keep the kitchen utensils
and things. I only needed my clothes and some other personal
things. Richie and I were driving back to New Jersey so we could
       accomplish something of a honeymoon.
At this very moment is was a day before my wedding and I was on
the phone with a very tense sounding Duff who was telling me the
cleaners had lost his tuxedo pants and cumber bun. My blood
pressure was boiling and I tried to remain as calm as humanly
possible, having my mother fly in from Wisconsin wasn't helping
matters at all. Those black dots were back in full force and I
could barely keep anything down these days.
"I don't know, they just gave me a ticket and told me to come
back in twenty minutes. I told them I didn't have twenty minutes
because I had to pick up the cake for you and I still have to go
       pick up your wedding present..."
I sighed and rubbed my temples as I moved a few throw pillows
out of the way and sat down on the now ancient couch.
"When did you get the ticket, Duff? There's usually a time stamp
on them and there's a phone number. Oh, you know what forget it,
I'll just pick up the suits from the cleaners myself. I've got
to go get my dress and some other stuff anyway. Don't worry
       about it."
Duff let out a sigh of relief and then paused for a second.
"Hey, uhm...what color do you think you look better in? Black or
Green? Oh and what's size are you?"
My eyes widened and I thought for a second.
"Personally I'd go for green and I'm a size 6...why? Oh dear
god, Duff don't get me anything...put a donation in our name to
       a charity."
Duff chuckled and then the line went dead.
"Damn him!" I muttered before I grabbed my car keys and purse
and just about made it to the front door before my mother came
       out of nowhere.
"Oh, where are you off too, Mickey? Let me get my purse and I'll
       go with you."
Before I could object my mother had grabbed her purse and was
       waiting like an excited puppy.
I sighed as climbed behind the wheel and started the car only to
hear my mother nag me about not adjusting my mirrors first.
I was continually nagged until we reached town and then she was
on my case about my parking at the local drug store.
"What ever would you need here, dear?" She questioned as she
       followed me in.
I was still trying to keep myself calm but my attempts were
failing as I stood in line at the pharmacy pick up area and got
my number. I had a twenty minute wait until my presciption was
filled and I felt a sudden migraine coming on as my mother
followed me over to the small hand bakset area and then around
the store. I simply chose to ignore her as I made my way over to
the family planning section and picked what was needed and then
made my way over the travel toilettries.
"Mickey dear, it's nice to ignore people. I've taught you better
       then that..."
I felt a nervous facial tick start to spasm in my right eye as I
walked up to the check out area clenching my number and my
basket. I ended up setting everything down in an orderly manner
half hoping my mother would see what I was buying but she turned
away and then snatched the reciept out of my hands before I bury
       in my bag.
"Why ever are you buying those things?! Don't you want a family
right away? Well, with your temperment I don't know how you'd
       fair as a mother."
I made my way out to the car with mother hot at my heels
babbling about how if Richie and I did have kids right away we
should name the first born after my grand father, whose name was
Buford. I ended up cringeing in spite of myself.
I got into the driver's seat yanked my seatbelt around me and
threw the bag in the back seat and cradled my head in my hands
trying to force a handle on my boiling rage.
"I don't see why you're so upset, Mickey...." My mother
countered as she settled into the passenger seat.
I glowered at my mother and then proceeded to tear into her.
"Don't. Call. Me. Mickey! My name is Shelley."
My mother waved it off with total indifference as she buckled
herself in and smoothed her hair.
       "Actually it's Michelle, dear..."
"Dad always called me Shelley...so just please.."
My mother looked me in the eye before cutting me off in a cold
       tone.
"Well, he's not here is he, Michelle? You always were closer to
your father then you were to me and I could never figure it out.
What did you see in him? He was nothing but a.."
I reached over my mother and pushed open the passenger side
       door.
"Get out, go back to the house, pack your bags, and get out.
I'll call a taxi for you and have you on the first flight out
and back to Wisconsin. How dare you sit there and think you can
belittle my father. You're just a bitter old woman who's jealous
       of a dead man."
My mother clutched her purse and stared at me wide eyed.
"But...how am I going to get back....surely you don't mean
       that..."
I rummaged through my own purse and handed her twenty dollars
       for cab fare.
"Don't say I never did anything for you, now get out. I've got
things I need to get done."
My mother looked back at me one last time and tried to say
something, sadly I'd never figure out what that was because I
       pulled away.

       July 1, 1993
       "Shell...Shell...yoohoo! Wakey Wakey!"
I felt someone shaking me awake and whispering in my ear as I
opened my eyes I was blinded by the bright California morning
sunshine and ended up screaming in pain.
"Damn it, Steven! Stop playing with the blinds, I'm up!"
I tried to bury my head back under my pillow but it was yanked
away before I could do anything. I was grabbed by Steven and
       pushed out into the hallway.
"Got anything to say to the camera, Shell? It's your big day."
Duff asked as he shoved the video camera in my face before
       breaking into a laughing fit.
"Why don't you ask me after I've had my coffee, Duff? What's so
       damn funny?"
Duff shook his head tried to stifle another giggle and failed as
       he adjusted the camera.
"And this dear future Sambora children is what your mother
looked like on her wedding day, decidedly green...and somewhat
       frizzy."
I scowled and then remembered I'd put on a pore shrinking mask
the night before and never washed my face.
"Oh no no no! This can't be happening!"
I muttered as I ran for the bathroom and slammed the door.
After twenty minutes of scrubbing my face with a loufa and hot
water I was finally mask free and exfoliated within an inch of
my life. My hair however was another story entirely. I didn't
take into account the humidity of the day and ended up looking
like I'd licked an eletric fence. After an hour in the bathroom
and two showers later, one hot to scrub myself clean and a
second that was cold to wake me up I was ready to face my
entourage which now consisted of a very hyped up Steven and the
future videographer also known as Duff McKagan.
When I came downstairs I found the blonde duo squabbling over
who go to steam my dress free of wrinkles.
"I wouldn't trust you to even open the dry cleaning bag, Duff."
"There's reason why we don't let you near the stove, Steven. Now
       gimme the tea kettle!"
A slap fight ensued which made me roll my eyes as I poured
myself a cup of coffee and sat down for the last time at the
       kitchen table.
"It doesn't need to be steamed, guys so just put the kettle down
       and have a seat, please."
Duff and Steven sighed ended up kicking each other under the
       table.
This was going to be a long morning as I glanced at the clock
       and prayed a silent prayer.
Three hours and many slap fights later the three of us were
crammed into the limo and embarked on the forty minute drive to
the church. As we pulled up to the front doors of the church
Steven looked away and then blew his nose loudly into his
       hankerchief.
Duff made a wild grab for the camera and tried to zoom in on
Steven who was inching closer to a melt down.
"Oh I've got to get this on camera! Oh, Stevey...look at the
       pretty camera."
I shoved Duff out of the limo and told him to go bug Richie,Axl,
Slash, and Izzy in the church.
I inched closer to Steven or as close as my dress would allow
and offered him a tissue from the side compartment on the door.
"Oh, Steven, it's going to be ok. I promise."
I patted Steven on the shoulder and got another tissue at the
ready just in case one of us broke down.
Steven heaved a huge sigh and whimpered before accepting my
offer of a second tissue."It's nnot gonna bbe the ssaame, Shell!
You've always been there and nnow you're mmoving out and wwho am
I gonna talk to about my problems? Who's gonna make dinner?
Who's gonna do our laundry?! You're the only person who could
ever get the fabric softener ratio right and make the beds so
there was always a pocket to curl up into at night. You always
stood up for me...and now you're leaving!"
Steven sobbed as he blew his nose again and then reached out for
a hug which I accepted as I tried to blink back tears and calm
down poor Steven from the point of hyperventilation.
"It's going to be ok, Steven. I promise, there's always going to
be a room ready for you.

I'll even talk to Richie about giving you your very own set of
       house keys, ok?"
Steven looked at me with watery eyes and nodded as I opened the
door to the limo and stepped out to smooth my dress and smooth
       my hair.
"Now, let's get this show on the road, huh?" I adjusted my veil
and let Steven go in ahead of me. I made my way back into the
       little waiting area for
Axl who was just coming down the aisle looking a little pale.
I raised my eyebrows and looked at Axl with worry.
"You ok? You don't look so good."
Axl nodded tried to play it off as nothing.
I grinned as I adjusted my veil for the last time before linking
       arms with Axl.
"Please don't tell me you're getting the flu..."
Axl looked at me and shifted from foot to foot for a second.
I grinned as the prayer ended and the organist took a seat and
prepared to play the bridal march.
"No...Just have a few things on my mind that's all..."
Axl blushed swallowed and turned to give me a quick hug and
       relinked arms with me.
"I want you to know that I'm really happy for, contrary to what
other people may say. You deserve a great guy and you've finally
found him. Even if you did have to kiss a toad to get him."
I turned to Axl and sighed.
"You're most certainly not a toad, you're my best friend and I
wouldn't change a thing about you."
The music started, the doors opened, and we started our decent
       down the aisle.
The ceremony went quite well until the exchanging of the rings I
was starting to have second thoughts about the entire thing.
"Do you Richard Steven Sambora take Michelle Elizabeth Kendall
as your lawfully wedded wife? To love, honor, cherish, and obey
all the days of your life?"
Richie shifted a little at the mention of his middle name and
clammed up for a second as if the words had to sink in. He was
panicing, he had other things on his mind and I wasn't one of
       them.
       "I...uh...I do."
The priest turned to me and wiped his brow before continuing
with the vows. The heat in the church was overwhelming and I
felt my mind swim for a second as I tried to focus.
"Do you Michelle Elizabeth Kendall take Richard Steven Sambora
as your lawfully wedded husband? To honor, cherish, and obey all
       the days of your life?"
I nodded as I tried to focus again. My final thoughts were of
Axl and I just realized that something wasn't right. Axl was
supposed to be here and he wasn't. My heart started to pound
       "I...uh..."
I looked at Richie and then turned toward Axl, my heart still
       hammering in my chest.
I steeled my nerves and objected.
"I'm sorry, I can't do this. I can't marry you Richie. You can
do so much better then me. I'll split everything with you."
Richie let out a sigh of relief and made a run for the back of
the church and grabbed an attrative blonde woman and high tailed
it out of dodge, his family hot on his heels. I was thankful my
side of the church was empty.
The priest was left standing there in shock, mouth hanging open
       and bible dangling.
"Well, I'm marrying somebody today come hell or high water."
Axl stepped up in front of me and grinned.
       "I do if you do."
I grinned back as a weight fell from my shoulders.
       "I do too."
The priest sighed and closed the bible.
"Well, I now pronounce you man and wife. Good luck you two..I've
got a feeling that you're going to need it."
The guys had become side tracked with the votive candles and
started a small fire by the confessional boxes.
"Oh don't mind them, Father. They're...just...special."
I sighed as I watched the fearless four battled the flames.
"I don't think we'd want it any other way, right?"
A squabble was heard and then a crash as the holy water fountain
       was knocked over.
"That's being added to your bill, I hope you know."
Axl and I sighed and said in unison.
       "We know."

I'm in the dark about where I should start first, but I'll give
it a go even though it might be a little muddled. I can't
believe it's all over! and yet I am so very happy for Shell and
Axl with them finally being together again. The last chapter was
so romantic :] even if Richie did show himself to be a coward,
and running off with a blonde as well! very shocking. I also
loved how Steven broke down crying upon realisation that Shell
was getting married and would not be around too much anymore,
bless his little heart. I loved the wedding planning she was
doing with Axl as well; I would most likely cause as much of a
fuss as she did haha. Axl is such a sweetheart though :] I love
picturing him in such ways, rather than the ways some nasty
people portray him as. Beautiful finishing chapters to a
wonderful story :) you have definitely made my heart soar!

Aww I'm so glad you enjoyed it! My original thoughts were to
actually have Shell and Richie go through with the wedding but
my fingers didn't want it that way, haha. Richie was a bit of a
coward but atleast he went off into the sunset happy and didn't
leave her stranded. I felt so bad about making poor Steven cry
but I think it added to plot a bit. I'm so happy you liked the
way I portrayed Axl, I tried to make him as human as possible if
that makes any sense at all, haha. I just can't begin to tell
you happy I am that I made your heart soar. Thank you so much
for your awesome feedback all the way the through the process.
You really make it a joy to continue writing. :D

I think your fingers had it right :] though either way it would
have worked out just as nicely. I liked this situation a little
more though, it was fantastic to read. It makes a lot of sense.
I love how he came across in this story, especially these last
