Charlene & Billy Miller

A/N: I, for some reason was inspired to create these two.
Perhaps I've been waxing poetic about people I didn't quite get
the proper chance to know when I was growing up. Could have
been the country playlist I've had on for the past few days,
maybe it's the fact that the town I grew up in is ever changing
( Fracking's taking over and I swear nothing good will ever come
of it. ) and the farms that I passed every day are being sold
quickly for half of their worth. That's just the price of
progress I suppose. Either way, perhaps this couple will serve
as a fictional love letter to the places and people that shaped
me. P.S. October 11th is a very busy month in my verses. It
wouldn't be right for me to pay homage to the people I love and
appreciate without putting a nod to you in there. You're family
too, y'know? Like I've said before if it hadn't been for you and
your support and guidance these characters would just end up
jotted down in a notebook and shelved up in a box in the closet.
Partial plot/name inspiration: John Deere Green - Joe Diffie and
My Town by Montgomery Gentry
I've sprinkled a few family names into the background as well.
Olive was my paternal great grandmother's name, Robert was my
maternal Granddad's name. According to my great aunt Betty out
in Kansas next to Johnson and Smith, Miller is the third most
common surname in the Midwest. So talk about tidbits.
**Proper FC pics coming soon**
Charlene Miller
HTML https://avatarmaker.net/avatars_upload/s033326969.jpg
Full Name: Charlene Genevieve ( Smith ) Miller
Nickname: Charlie ( it stuck after Bill's water tower
adventure), Char, and Lene ( she loathes that one ), Cici ( her
niece calls her that one )
DOB: September 7th
Zodiac Sign: Virgo ( because I rarely use the sign and in homage
to the late Joey Feek )
Hometown: Aftonville, Indiana
Occupation: Bank Teller over at the Aftonville Trust & Loan
Parents: Albert & Sadie Smith
Siblings: Opal S. Hastings, Hester S. Prynne, and Vida S.
Johnson
Billy Bob Miller
HTML https://avatarmaker.net/avatars_upload/s110214731.jpg
Full Name: William Robert Miller Jr.
Nickname: Billy, Billy Bob, Bill ( used strictly by Charlene ),
Junior ( usually used by his father-in-law, Bert Smith )
DOB: April 25
Zodiac Sign: Taurus
Hometown: Aftonville, Indiana
Parents: William Robert Sr. & Olive Miller
Siblings: Edward and Jeb Miller
Occupation: Mechanic / Wood Shop teacher at Dimmesdale High
school / owner of a small sweet corn and dairy farm
Facts:
- Their wedding anniversary is the 11th of October because
Charlene's lucky number has always been eleven and Billy's lucky
month has always been October.
- They settled on an acreage that was just down the road from
Billy's parents, who run an even larger dairy operation.
- Charlene has a niece named Pearl who would like nothing more
than to live with her aunt and uncle. They take an interest in
what she's got to say and she's free to explore the farm as long
as she's done her chores ( collecting eggs and feeding the
chickens ) and get dirty like all normal children do without
someone raising a fuss. She still hasn't figured out how her
mother, Hester and her aunt Cici are sisters.
- Billy actually did climb the town water tower and paint '
Billy Bob <3's Charlene' in green paint.
- They have no children of their own ( at the moment ) but would
love nothing more than to pack the house to the rafters with
little ones.
- Instead they've got a pack of four mixed hound dogs that Bill
occasionally uses as hunting dogs ( even if they're terrible at
it ). Char's taken to spoiling them rotten by actually cooking
for them most nights and giving them each their own blanket to
sleep on.
- Charlene is a composite of both my great grandmothers, Rita
and Olive and named after my paternal great grandmother. Bill is
an homage of sorts to my grandfather.
- Charlene's father, Albert almost threw a blue fit when she
announced that she had accepted Bill's proposal. Her mother
talked him down by reminding him that their youngest daughter
was marrying a man just like her father and they both know that
Jen's going to do exactly what her Mama did and marry him even
if it means running off to do it.
- Bill proposed after a night out at the local drive in with his
class ring.
- They married quietly when she was 20 and he was 22.
- He wore his best Sunday clothes ( a dark brown suit with
patched elbows ) and she wore her mother's wedding dress suit in
dove grey. The pearls were her granny's and the shoes were
borrowed from her best friend Fiona Gallagher.
- The reception was held for just 100 people down at the Legion
hall, which Bill's father belonged to. Guests were served
potluck style and the cake was a simple one, just two tiers with
vanilla buttercream.
- Charlene's followed in her mother's footsteps and gotten her
beauty license ( not that it was all that hard ) but when
money's tight, when some of the crops fail and Bill's still
going through his Agricultural and Animal Science courses, it
comes in handy.
- There's a year between them and everyone seems to think that
they met in high school, contrary to popular belief they met the
summer before her Freshman and his Sophomore year at an ice
cream social hosted by the Church of Christ Ladies Auxiliary.
Both of which their mother's belong to.
- The water tower has been painted over at least a dozen times
and still that John Deere green love note still pops up. Billy's
still got help from the usual crew, his brothers Ed and Jeb and
his buddies Del and Buford. They're all a little smarter and
stronger then they were when they were kids but the beer still
plays a role. The only difference is that Del's a deputy for
Aftonville's police department and Ed, Jeb, and Buford have the
forethought to buy better paint rollers and a pulley system so
Billy's not perched on the rail. ( the 'Fall of '98' and the
fact that their buddy was literally hanging on by the seat of
his pants still sticks with them.) Finally the county gave up
and it's a permanent fixture and a local legend.
* Just thought I'd add on Billy & Charlene's parents well,
because I can. I chose to share them here because Tumblr seems
to dislike Paula Deen quite a bit. ( she said something ages and
ages ago and still hasn't lived it down. I do not agree with her
wording at all but I like her recipes and she seems like a sweet
person. She just misstepped. )
The Smiths ( Charlene's parents )
Sadie Walters Smith

Full Name: Albert Hiram Smith
DOB: February 23
Occupation: Dairy Farmer ( formerly ) Insurance adjustor (
currently )
FC: Noble Willingham
Birthplace: Wilkes Grove, Alabama
Fast Facts:
- They married when she was 18 and he was 20.
- They moved out to Aftonville as newlyweds with the idea that
it wouldn't be permanent. But four daughters ( all spaced 2
years apart ) and thirty years of marriage later they're still
here.

fresh start, she was seven years old and didn't quite know what
to think of all the corn fields.
- Bill Sr. knew the minute he met the shy girl with big blue
eyes and sweet smile that he'd end up marrying her. They were 20
and 22 when they married at the Calvary Cross church on July 1,
1960.
