'Controversial' or 'Problematic' Favorites

Ugh. Where do I even start with this? I've recently fallen into
watching the Dr. Blake Mysteries through Britbox subscription
and I have to say that I enjoy the lead, Craig McLachlan's
acting quite a bit. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled on a
blog on the Blue Hellsite proclaiming him to be a 'vile,
manipulative SOB'. Now, it's Tumblr so I thought perhaps they
were jumping to conclusions until I did a little digging of my
own and as it turns out there are a few actresses and others
that were involved in a 2014 production of the Rocky Horror
Picture Show stage production in Australia that are taking him
to court over his unwanted actions. Now, I'm the type of person
that hates to judge people and things at face value and I really
really don't want to sound like I'm blaming the victims but why
wait almost three years before going public with this? Wouldn't
you have filed a report then and there and said "There's no way
in hell I'm working with him again. Find an understudy." right
after it occurred? I'm also not standing up for Mr. McLachlan
either because if he did do the things those women claim then I
feel he should be held accountable. But if it does turn out that
there is absolutely no truth in what the victims have claimed
then, this poor man's career, which I believe goes back a ways
on Aussie tv, is all but ruined.
I just...what a mess. I suppose it's justifiable to enjoy an
actor's ( or a musician's ) work and just not like them as a
person. ( which is entirely how I feel about John Lennon to be
quite honest and I've gotten flack for it ) I'm so so sorry for
the ramble but I had to get it out somewhere. I know if I put it
up on the Blue Hellsite I'd be drowning in messages just I was
when I posted about Johnny.

I've never actually heard of this fella by name, but just looked
him up and recognise his face as someone who starred in
Neighbours with Kylie! I only ever gave that godawful show a
watch for her just to see if it was any good. I also remember
watching episodes of Home & Away for a time, too, I noticed he's
also been a star in that show, too? Other than that, I don't
know much about the guy but also looked up the allegations
myself just a few minutes ago && I completely stand with your
uncertainty over it, honestly. It reminds me of every other star
that has been dragged through the mud as of late and how it
seems to have taken the victims years to say anything about it.
It's questionable in a sense how one person speaking up about it
makes everyone else jump on the bandwagon, but I would have put
that sort of thing down to simple fear of being the only one and
that kinda thing. If any accusations about any of these people
are true, that's the only reason I can come up with as to why
people all seem to flock to it after one person says something.
All I can think of for it is fear. But, it makes you wonder
still, because of how frequent it's been lately and how many
stars are falling in Hollywood because of it and especially
Johnny Depp and his now failing career. I worry about it so
much. I'm actually really glad that with the Gary Oldman
scenario, his son spoke out about it, that should have shut a
lot of people down and I hope it did.
I do exactly the same thing, by the way. If ever it comes out
that someone I am fond of has done something despicable, I won't
abide it but I'd struggle to think less of their capabilities as
an actor / musician, regardless. It was like the time I read
about an accusation made toward Marlon Brando that kind of
knocked me a little sick because it was an invasion of personal
space to be honest, even I would have shouted about that one and
for as disgusting as it was, I still like him as an actor. I
like to think he changed his ways later on in his career but I'm
doubtful. Who they are in the world of acting or singing etc,
doesn't equal who they are as a person, although being a
musician would make you a little closer to your own personality,
of course.
I struggle a bit with those things, if it's an artist that has
been accused of something. It's easier to continue liking an
actor because that's never really them in a role, but for a
singer to have done something awful, it's a bit more ' eh what
do I do with this now ', like the frontman of Lostprophets, Ian.
I heard about the child pornography he kept and I was disgusted
and he's actually been jailed for it so it's not a case of ' oh
I wonder ', it's an he actually did that and there is proof of
it and I think that when there's proof and your stomach
genuinely turns and your whole attitude toward them shifts,
that's the only time you can make up your mind, I think. Some
crimes are far worse than others and I know you should never
pick and choose between one thing being less so than the other,
but there's inconsistencies with a lot of the stories that come
flying out half the time. I kind of draw the line with child
pornography so it's difficult for me to enjoy the Lostprophets
music now; I still like the songs, which is unfortunate because
now I cannot hear him without the reminder of what he did and
the type of person that he is.
