       Tom Petty

I've got so many favorite songs by Tom that I reined myself in
for this one. Instead I'll be sharing a favorite live
performance via dvd clip from youtube. There's something so pure
about this version that endeared itself to me right away. The
fact that Stevie was one of his back up singers for it made it
even more lovely but that's just me. ;) Another favorite of mine
is Wildflowers, it will forever remind me of dear Ginger, she
used to howl along with it when it came on in the car and...it
was one of the songs that I constantly had on after she passed.
Tom's music touched so many people around the world. I often
wonder if he knew just how many people he helped through a rough
patch. I never got the chance to see him in concert or to give
him a proper thank you but I hope he knows.

I think I'm a boring sod when it comes to which Petty song is my
favourite, because it's always been Free Fallin' and amongst his
fans, that is usually like saying your favourite Jovi song is
Livin' On A Prayer, or your favourite Guns song is Sweet Child
O' Mine —— but I was young when I first heard that song because
I found it through Jerry Maguire and that's where it stuck. I
mean, Cruise's vocals over his aren't exactly the smoothest by
any means, but it's so much a feel-good track and goes so well
with that particular development in the film, it was plenty loud
enough in my head as his best, to me.
Saying that, though . . I love, love, love the one you've posted
and like you, adore that Stevie is on the track as well. I
absolutely love her voice, but also, this song is beautiful and
a great pick as a favourite. I think, beyond Free Fallin', I'd
probably go with Runnin' Down A Dream because I cannot keep
still if that song is playing, at all. I actually had wanted to
include the theme of this song in Hel & Col's roadtrip, because
it seemed to make the most sense and it played out in my head
like a cut from a film. I can also imagine our girls in a live
action music video for that particular song ( this being their
roadtrip also and it being something similar to what we see of
Liv Tyler & Alicia Silverstone in the Aerosmith MV's ).
But really, I genuinely adore this song, for the weight of how
much I loved Tom Cruise when I saw this film and for how
fantastic of a song it is, even if Cruise's vocals are murdering
it in this scene, aha, it gives me so many happy feels ::

You're not boring at all and if anyone gives you grief over your
favorite Petty songs tell them to go take an aeronautical
intercourse on a piece of motivating pastry. ;) I think Tom
would be quite happy to hear that the song stuck for that reason
and I loved Tom's vocals on that because it was such a human
       moment.
I'm quite sad that Stevie never got to record a full album with
Tom because honestly I think that it would be worth it's weight
in gold. They blended so well together I thought. I do love Free
Fallin' as well though and Runnin' Down a Dream is perfect for
our two girls! You're quite right though, they are very much
like Liv and Alicia. :-D I can remember my mother playing the
Full Moon Fever album when I was small and I loved it dearly. I
was put to bed regularly to Alright For Now. Besides that though
Dogs on the Run struck a chord with me, it always spoke volumes
about being different and that being okay.
I may just channel my inner Tom Cruise and jam out to Free
Fallin' in the car tomorrow afternoon. ;)
Another favorite of mine is this one: ( I swear this one was on
repeat during that break up from hell for me. The kicker was the
ex boyfriend did have eyes so blue they looked like weather.
       Thank God I didn't marry him. )
