       When My Days Look Low
   DIR By: Wolfy
       Date: May 30, 2015, 5:52 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Violet hadn't actually spoken to him in a few months. It felt
like years with every day that passed, yet she wished the pain
would put her out of her misery and give up the ghost. Nothing
had been working in her favour no matter what method she tried
on any given day and she was very close to giving up herself and
allowing the depression to swallow her whole. Her only real
distraction came in the form of theatre and partaking in one of
her dear friends current touring musicals, in which he actually
starred as the lead and she, the narrator. It was not at all an
easy performance to perfect, what with being on the stage and
belting out near enough every song in the show itself, but she
somehow found her voice whenever it was needed. Her usual frail,
timid demeanor would disappear and out came a brand new girl who
immediately captured the hearts of children and adults alike.
And through all of her problems that seemed to lack tangible
solutions, she always came out on top at the end of the evening.
But today was more than an off day and she wasn't entirely sure
if her usual coping mechanisms were going to work. She sat in
her dressing room for a little over an hour that afternoon,
pondering ways in which she might successfully overcome her
unhappiness in such a short space of time, in order to prep
herself for the nights performance, but she was out of luck.
Sulking would do her no good, however. The remaining option was
to visit her friend in his own dressing room and perhaps chat
with him a short while. His usual uplifting and vibrant self
generally managed to pull her out of her dark little shell and
into the land of the living once more, so she was hopeful that
today, the same would happen. Even though she had her doubts due
to her own attempts having failed, where they would usually turn
out quite well and beneficial to her and those around her.
“I have a boil on my butt and nothing I do will get rid of
it,” she groaned, waltzing into his room seeing as the door was
wide open and he was standing before a full length mirror,
snapping shots of himself in his royal attire. “Or maybe I
should return in a bit when you're no longer posing with duck
       lips.”
“Oi, yer wanna lay off with the taunts, like? I need to take a
photo of all this for instagram an' yer not bloody helpin' with
all tha' talk,” he reacted, a guttural growl following his words
as he snapped a final photo and turned his full attention to
       her.
Whatever grievances he had with her in that moment would surely
have to wait, as he spotted the glum expression she wore and
noted how carelessly she lounged across the dressing table with
her face buried beneath all of her hair. A sigh passed through
his lips as he made his way over to her and in but a few words
of comfort, managed to entice every last little complaint she
had locked away inside of her to be heard some other time. The
words continued to flow until he thought she may soon deflate
with having said so much, but when she finally slowed down to an
understandable level, sobbing took over instead. And then it was
right back where she started, with her mouth running a hundred
miles an hour and him, having pulled her up from the dressing
table and into his arms, trying his best to soothe every pulsing
ache in her quivering mind, body and soul.
“I'm sorry to put all of this on you, but you make it so easy
and I have no one else to turn to. At least, no one who would be
willing enough to listen to me go on and on and I know it's
stupid to be so upset over some guy, but I can't help it. He
makes me so angry, for everything he has done to me and I'll
never be able to give him a piece of my mind because he's
gone... he's just, gone,” she muttered, tone barely audible as
       she spoke into his chest.
“I only understood 'bout 'alf of tha' but from the sound of
it, yer really need to 'ave a good old drink tonight after the
show an' 'ave got just the place to take yer so yer cun let off
all tha' steam in the right way,” he soothed, fingers combing
through wonderfully long locks of hair, freely cascading down
       the length of her back.
“I'm sorry. You're right – I need to woman up and take the
hits as they come,” she sniffled, finally pulling her head up
and gazing up at him with a tiny smile, which he returned with a
cheshire cat grin, soon finding her giggling like a little
school girl in response. “I can do this. I was just terrified of
ruining todays shows with how I've been feeling since I woke up
this morning, but you help more than you know.”
“Is tha' not wha' 'am 'ere for, babe?” he tossed her a wink,
pulling her into one last cuddle before toddling back over to
the mirror and fixing up the golden mane atop his head as she
waltzed back out and onto the stage.
Violet crossed from one side of the stage to the other as the
song progressed, every note as perfect as the first and she
could not help but smile adoringly at the small children in the
front row, gawking up at her in the outfit she wore. Though it
was jet black in colour and that akin to something a magician
may wear, it contained several bursts of colour dotted randomly
all over the material and their eyes dazzled in splendor as they
watched. Again, she crossed the stage and ventured to the other
side where she had originally walked on and belted out the final
verse in what was her best take on the song yet. “But all that I
say, can be told another way, in the story of a boy whose dream
came true, and it could be you,” she sang, the final note
dragging on for several moments as she walked in a circle around
her friend whom now stood in the center of the stage, his back
turned to the audience. With a single snap of her fingers a
short distance from his ear, he came to life and spun,
       immediately diving right into song.
And as he sang the opening beautifully and with as much vigor as
she had used prior to his appearing on stage, she climbed the
side stairs, waiting for the song to come to an end. As she sat
beside a choir member, watching and waiting for her next
performance that would follow as soon as his had ended, she
found herself smiling brightly. It was an okay thing to do in
this production and none would think anything of it, given that
the narrator and the lead, Joseph, developed feelings for one
another throughout the story of his life. Her eyes travelled
then over the audience and found everyone completely drawn in by
both his appearance and vocals, as he continued with another
verse, dropping right into her favourite lines as he walked
       about on the stage.
“May I return, to the beginning, the light is dimming and the
dream is, too. The world and I, we are still waiting, still
hesitating, any dream will do,” he sang his heart out as he
reached that last note and as the lights of the theatre shone
bright white over him, the audience began to applaud, which went
on for at least a few minutes before the following scene began.
Her friend took his leave off the left side of the stage for
several minutes whilst she began her next performance,
introducing Jacob and each of his sons to the crowd watching
with such fascination. Running through each of the names had
been quite a problem many weeks ago, but she now had the hang of
it and there were no errors in speech as she went along. Once
all of the brothers had appeared on stage and her friend
returned once more, they all had a little song and dance before
proceeding to the next stage in the story.
The show had run through so well that afternoon that the entire
cast decided to celebrate with a meal and a couple of drinks in
a nearby pub, which made things easier for the two lead stars
who wanted to have a proper chat about they didn't get to talk
about between shows. The girl found that she was once again a
little out of sorts now that she had nothing to focus on and as
she slipped back into comfortable clothes for a night out, a
gentle knock turned her attention to the open door and she
smiled. He stood there in his usual casual outfit, jeans, tank
and an unbuttoned shirt with a daft grin on his face. Head
tilting some, her brow furrowed, but just as she opened her
mouth to ask him what could possibly be so amusing, he rushed in
to grab her hand and practically dragged her out of the theatre
and down the street. Her laughter was something she couldn't
keep to herself as they went.
“Lloyd! jesus, you're going to pull my arm out of its socket
if you don't slow down,” she gasped, still racing to keep up
alongside him as he rushed through the doors of a well known
pub. “Of all the places, I didn't think you'd choose here.
Weren't you complaining the other day about it being too dimly
lit and you couldn't see your food?” she chuckled, flexing her
hand and fingers until the colour returned to normal.
“Whilst yer 'ave a very good point an' we probably shouldn't
be eatin' 'ere at all 'cause it is pretty shit, I told yer tha'
yer needed a timeout an' this place is the best place for tha'
sort of thing 'cause no one cun even hear yer or really see
yer,” he tossed her a wink as he scampered over to a booth
somewhere near the back of the pub.
Sliding in opposite him, she quickly picked up a menu and chose
almost immediately, stunning him into silence as the waitress
came over to take their order. She smiled and Violet returned
the gesture, idly tapping her fingers atop the wooden table
whilst waiting for her friend to hurry and pick a drink. The
selection wasn't entirely impressive, unless they were going for
something filtered with alcohol, but he was trying her patience.
Having ordered a pepsi and slice of lime for herself, she deftly
landed a kick to his shin beneath the table, earning an outcry
from him which then startled the waitress and, though she tried
to hide her shock, the expression upon her face was a sight to
see. Violet then ordered for him and watched with merriment as
the woman toddled off as fast as she could.
As soon as she was out of earshot, the brunette dropped her head
down on the table and laughed pretty horrendously until she
received a kick to the shin, stunning her into silence. But that
silence soon turned into angry growling and soft whimpering as
tears rolled down her cheeks. Her lower lip began to tremble,
though she fought off the urge to giggle at the apparent concern
and regret that crossed his face as he reached over the table
for her hands and held them gently in his own whilst whispering
       apology after apology.
       “Ah shite, sorry babe~ I didn't mean to hurt yer... I didn't
even think tha' would cause yer any pain at all. I mean, I
didn't even kick yer tha' hard, are yer sure yer not just
pullin' my leg?” he rambled, rubbing the backs of her hands with
his thumbs as he tried to coax her to look up at him again.
“You are the most gullible guy I have ever known, Lloyd, I
swear... but your concern is noted and appreciated, you sweet
little darling,” she sniffled away the remaining fake tears and
grinned at him as she sat back against the plush material of the
booth, eyes fixed on him as his worry dropped into a pout.
“Yer one wicked witch sometimes, Vi. I dun know why I fall for
it every single time~ yer must be right about me bein'
gullible,” he muttered, releasing her hands and lounging back
against the other side of the booth, watching her with
irritation, though a grin soon found its way onto his lips not
       long after.
About fifteen minutes passed before he decided to ask her to
spill the beans in regard to what had been bothering her so much
that particular day, but he didn't quite get the whole question
out. Through the doors of the pub, burst the rest of the cast
members of Joseph and both stars simply looked at one another,
their expressions both amused and somewhat glum at the prospect
of chatting about personal matters for everyone to hear. It
didn't sit right with either of them, but she was the one to
stand first after downing the rest of her drink and he mimicked
her movement mere moments later after doing the same.
With a small smile and hushed thank you, she led the way around
the rowdy bunch and back out into the warm evening air. The pair
of them linked arms and chuckled quietly along the way as they
walked further up the street in search of somewhere else to have
a good old chat, that didn't hold so many people who might
question everything that came out of her mouth. She didn't mind
him knowing, as he had been a good friend since they were both
toddlers way back and so, anything that might come tumbling out
that night, she knew she could trust him with because he knew
almost everything there was to know about her anyway.
“Will 'ere do? 'am startin' to get really hungry as well now
so we need to find somewhere soon,” he whined, pulling gently on
her hand as he had done earlier, though this time not causing as
much frustration as she followed along behind him.
“Here is fine, actually. I haven't been here for years but it
looks so nice inside now,” she gawked up at the ceiling and her
surroundings as he gently tugged on her hand, once again leading
her to the back of the building. “The food is always great in
here but I'm dying to try an ice cream float again, just to see
if they're as good as I remember them to be,” she grinned,
plonking herself down in the chair as he sat across from her,
       grabbing the menu.
He scanned it briefly, surprising her as he folded his arms on
the table and just watched her for a moment, that same old daft
smile glued to his face, which only meant that they had
something he adored and thus meant he would probably be wanting
to come here every night the show was running.
“Are we really gonna be coming here every single day?” she
asked, tilting her head to one side after also being quick with
her choosing, just in time for a waitress to approach their
       table.
All her friend did was nod his head, acknowleding her words and
she found it difficult to resist, given the adorable, pleaful
expression he wore. A click of her tongue followed and he
clasped his hands together, understanding he had won that one
and after both had ordered from the packed menu, he immediately
jumped right into the topic they should have already been
discussing. Her look of surprise went unnoticed, though. If
there was one thing he was known for, it was getting right to it
and not beating around the bush, as opposed to herself. Tough
love was a whole world different than what she was used to, but
when it came from him and with him actually being the only one
she felt comfortable enough revealing everything to, it worked
       wonders.
“So, come on, tell us wha' is really botherin' yer pretty
little self, Vi. I 'ave known yer for yurs an' never seen yer
this down an' out before, so make sure yer tell me everythin',
'cause yer know as well as I do, I'll know if yer dun,” he
tossed her a wink, propping his chin atop the palm of his hand
whilst waiting for her to speak.
It took her a few seconds to gather herself, but once she picked
a certain subject, there was no holding her back.

Gah! I love it! Violet and Lloyd are seriously one of favorite
pairings and their friendship is just so touching, how well they
know one another is just amazing and bless Lloyd for always
helping her sort out her problems. I do have to say though that
poor Violet, I've been in her situation a time or two and it's
never been pretty. Please tell me you're going to keep this
going my dear! It's A+++++ work and I can't wait for another
update, you're off to an awesome start! :-D
