Helene was a woman of purity, someone who believed in the
greater good and would do anything to see the world become a
better place, free of all the unnecessary drama and violence
brought on by the wicked-minded. Frank, on the other hand, was
her polar opposite and wanted nothing more than to p*ss people
off with his outlook on life; stuck in his ways, he felt he
didn't have a way out and that it was impossible to change. The
two met months ago and have since been at each others throats —
both aiming for the same result, to change the others way of
thinking. What will happen when they come to realise their
differences, that should have kept them free from attraction,
are only drawing them closer together?

Helene awoke that morning feeling nauseous and not quite ready
to face another day listening to her acquaintance moan and
complain about women, for hours on end. It seemed that was all
he ever did, even when he was not working. She understood fully
that people had to make a living somehow, but had never really
accepted that particular method. In reality, his choice of words
and phrases upset a number of women all over the country and he
didn't give a damn. That was always the part that bothered her
the most, but she had yet to find a clear route into solving his
own problems. It occurred to her time and time again that maybe
a listening ear was all he really needed. Maybe, he had been
hurt by several women before and this was just his way of
dealing with the outcome. She knew, though, there were better
ways of coping. His way of dragging women down to dirt level did
not comply with her vision of a perfect world. Of course, she
knew full well that a perfect world would be an impossible
achievement. Still, there was absolutely no harm in trying for
it. It just meant one baby step at a time.
Early rising was not the best way to start such a day, but she
had no choice. Frank found himself more than a little irritated
by anyone who chose to stroll in even one minute after opening
time and she wasn't prepared to land herself in his bad books,
yet again. It had happened before and both had wound up more
than a little ticked off with one another. Their resolve saw
them yelling at one another until their voices could take it no
more and there, they had decided to call it a truce. Of all the
fights they had, not one of them had ever ended in an apology,
from either side. Both were much too proud to admit they had
been wrong, though more often than not, Frank was ridiculously
stubborn and wouldn't budge for anything. Trying to reason with
a man like that drove the young woman insane and yet she fought
every single day to make it happen, without much luck. That man
was just too set in his ways to even consider change. He saw no
reason to do so — felt there was no benefit for him, or the
business he was running, so he blocked out any and all signs of
help. But deep down, he held a secret no one really knew
       anything about.
A loud ringing tore through her apartment as she all but banged
her head against the doorway trying to get out of the room in
time. Locating her phone was not a difficult task, as she always
made sure it remained beside the radio, between the kitchen and
living room veranda. If it was not to be found there, the
practical side of her brain would suggest she had spent the
entire night drinking and it could be absolutely anywhere at
all. Luckily, it was where it was supposed to be and as the last
ring vibrated off the walls, she flipped it open and almost
growled into the receiver. It was seven thirty in the morning
and already, there was a complaint coming through. The young
woman struggled to avoid snapping at the poor man on the other
end of the line, for she knew it was not his fault; rather, it
was the pushy man he worked for. There was no reason for Frank
to be so ticked off this early and she wondered what might have
gone wrong. Nothing came to mind, but then, he didn't exactly
need much dropped on his shoulders to wind up angry.
“My apologies for such an early call, Miss. Starling, but we
have a bit of a problem and would like you to come in as soon as
possible. Do you think you can make it by eight fifteen?” the
man asked, at which Helene almost dropped the phone at the
       audacity of it.
It took a few moments to gather her thoughts and shake all the
fuzz from her still sleepy mind before she answered, to the best
of her ability. “Eight fifteen is pushing it a little bit, but
I'll see what I can do. What on earth could have wrong this
       early in the morning?”
The man on the other end of the line seemed to fall silent at
her question and she wondered then whether asking was such a
good idea. There were so many possibilities and as she stood
there waiting, listening to the sound of his nervous breathing,
she decided to drop it. “Never mind, we'll just leave it at
that, shall we? I'm on my way — tell Frank to get his act
together or I'll make it happen when I arrive.”
With that, she snapped her phone shut and tossed it into her
open bag as it rested on a nearby table. There were so many
thoughts rushing through her head at that moment, she had to
pause a second to take them all in, one by one. None of them
were good and god help Frank when she got there a little after
eight thirty. A shower was needed and so was breakfast. The
woman couldn't care less if she was running a little bit late.
Though she knew full well how much he hated late arrivals, she
was in no mood for anyone to mess her about today. They would
have a hall filled with just under one thousand people by noon
and already, the idiot had managed to screw something up at the
last minute. She really couldn't trust him enough to get
anything right; hell, the man couldn't even think straight half
the time. He was always too busy allowing his mind to wander to
less important matters, like women. Being one herself, Helene
struggled to maintain her composure when she could see clearly
how very aroused he was by his innermost thoughts.
It was always difficult to work with him, or around him,
depending on the day. With today being of great importance to
his career, you would think he might be able to keep it together
a whole lot better, but no. He just wasn't that kind of man.
Sidetracked — that was something he knew how to do well and in
abundance. It was a miracle all these sessions he had been
offering lasted so long, sometimes a few hours, for days even.
That always took her by surprise, for the man didn't know what
the hell he was talking about at times. She would give him cards
every now and then in case he needed a little push and more
often than not, he did. He'd be on a roll one minute and midway
through an in depth discussion about what women want, he would
lose it. There would be a wall up in front of him and the road
would come to an end; he didn't always know how to elaborate on
certain facts... or as she liked to call them, fictional ideals
of every man when faced with a difficult woman.
Her shower took no more than ten minutes at the most and after a
quick towel dry, she shuffled into her dress, slipped on her
black flats and grabbed her bag before heading out the door.
Today was going to be very interesting, though she had been
hoping for something a little more controlled. It was not always
so difficult for her to wake up early, but there remained a
problem throughout the entire day if she was sent into a spin
before eight — and this day had seen that already. Her mood was
sour, but she smiled as people passed her by on her route to
work; they would never know just by looking at her how unhappy
she was deep down inside. If it had been a legal method of
releasing anger, she would have thrown a fit and battered the
nearest inanimate object. The woman had enough dignity floating
around to actually avoid causing a scene, however. It just meant
that whether he liked it or not, Frank would be the one to pay
for stirring up trouble for her as early as seven thirty in the
damn morning. According to the company itself, she had never
been expected on site until nine or just a little after, so this
was an entirely new thing. For a moment, she took that into
consideration. Change was not usually something she handled well
either way – this was proving to be a disaster and the day had
       barely begun.
“Ah... prompt, as always, Miss. Starling” the man welcomed her
as he held open the glass door with a bright smile upon his
face. It seemed forced, though in the early hours, everything
always was. With it being the man whom she had spoken with not
too long ago over the phone, she responded to his cheerful mood
with a forced smile of her own. At which point, he took her bag
and her coat, informing her that Frank was waiting – and tearing
       up the room – upstairs.
“Oh.. well, if it isn't my lucky day” she drawled, suddenly
feeling an urge to bail and leave her belongings behind to
collect some other day. The thought alone that he was in quite a
temper and tossing things about in her office wasn't sitting too
well with her at all; her fear turned to anger and she stomped
to the elevator, prepared to give him a piece of her mind. She
would not allow him to leave until she had and by god, he was
going to clean up whatever mess he had made before he left the
room. Every piece of writing equipment in that room had seen
money come out of her own pocket and if he had destroyed half of
it, she wanted to know why — and whether or not he was going to
       pay her back.
Not wanting to bother knocking, she stomped out of the elevator
and barged right into her office, expecting the place to be
trashed to oblivion and all her files scattered about the floor,
but that was not the sight that met her eyes at all. In fact,
what she did see was the last thing she would've imagined; it
was so out of character for him, it just didn't seem real. And
as she had gone in there ready to start a fight with him, every
ounce of anger she was feeling prior vanished at the sight of
his emotional self curled up on the floor beside her desk. Her
mouth snapped shut and all traces of annoyance dispersed,
leaving her standing there in shock, unaware of how to approach
him in such a fragile state. This was entirely new — anything
could happen if she made the wrong move. But to leave him there
       would be even worse.
“Frank.. hey, come on. Get up off the floor before you ruin your
best pants” she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper as she
approached with caution and knelt down beside him. His head was
bowed and his hands were fists, fingers tightly curling into the
dark material as his knees were propped up. Carefully, she
grasped both of his shoulders and made a move to stand with him,
but he didn't seem to want to budge.
“Are you going to tell me what happened, hm? Do you want to talk
about it? I know you don't like me, Frank, but I'm here to
       help.”
All that followed were sniffles, drawn out sighs and damp
cheeks. It seemed he had been crying for at least a few hours
now and she wondered if he had come in today in such a state and
that was the real reason she had been called in early. It would
have made sense; if they had told her how very upset he was, she
would not have kicked up such a fuss over the phone. Now, all
       she felt was guilt.
Again, she tried to get him to stand and with a bit of a push,
this time, he helped her out a little bit. Though slow and a bit
wobbly in his movements, he managed to stand upright with her
aid, but he refused to look her way. He turned half a circle so
she could not glimpse his bloodshot eyes, as his shoulders
continued to shake and she clicked on to the fact that he was
still really upset. The cause of which left her puzzled. All she
could do was wait and hope that by some miracle, when he calmed
down, he would be willing to talk about it. But with him, that
was usually a no-go and he hated the idea of someone mending his
broken pieces – it made him feel as though he couldn't take care
of himself and he hated that.
“Frank, talk to me — come on, I'm here for you, they called me
in early and I'll be damned if I'm going to let you get away
with this one. Now, tell me what's bothering you so we can work
       it out.”
Another sniffle and deep intake of breath followed, soon after,
a steady exhale as he turned around to face the woman who was
attempting to get to the bottom of his dilemma. He had calmed
down considerably, but he knew very well that his eyes would
still be red; he had been crying a whole bunch. As he looked
upon Helene, he wondered why she would even want to help – he
knew exactly what she thought of him, though she had never
outwardly expressed her emotions – he knew she didn't really
       like him.
“Why would you wanna help, Hel? You don't even like me; in fact,
you hate my guts, don't you? I know your game.. you, women, who
think they know everything and scheme their way into the lives
of unsuspecting men, just to see them fall flat on their face at
the end of it. Well, f*ck you. I'm not one of those idiotic
pieces of sh*t who can't look after themselves. I don't need
       your f*ckin' help.”

OH. My. Lord! Can I adopt this right this second, please? I must
say that poor Helene's got a hell of a lot to put with with
Frank and I'm dying to know what happens! Dare I say that those
two have a true love/hate relationship going on? I love it and
will attempt to be patient for another update my dear, might I
add that you've broken my heart when Helene found Frank in a
heap beside himself and all but ready to bite her head off? Gah,
why oh why don't you have an agent?! Get yourself published,
       hun!
