Scents That Remind You of Someone

Forgive me if this seems a bit odd but I was thinking about
this, I know scents tie in quite a bit with my stories and I
thought it interesting. I know for me personally scents play a
big roll in my memory of certain people, especially loved ones
that are no longer here. My Grandad always smoked a pipe in the
evening so he always smelled of pipe smoke and for some reason
carbolic soap. My great aunt Jennie always wore Shalimar. Or
I'll find myself going through character plotting and think "Oh!
This would be perfect for him/her." So, my question to you is
do you have any particular scents that remind you of someone?
(Real or fictional or hell, even yourself) I've gone off the
deep end haven't I? :-D

You know, I have never actually considered anything like this
when writing fiction before but it sounds really interesting.
Perhaps if I looked into things a bit more, I might be able to
pick out scents that suit certain characters, just as you do.
Also, had to look up Shalimar because I've not heard of that one
before; it sounds quite nice. My nanna often wore "Coty
L'Aimant" and when she passed away, I took that bottle home with
me and have since used it up, so bought more for Christmas. I'll
probably continue using that for a while because I miss that
scent quite a lot. I'll definitely be pinning scents to my
characters from now on as well!

Aww Wolfy, you've made me cry a bit over here. I'm still so
sorry over your nanna. *hugs you tight* I've never heard of that
perfume and will be looking it up. :) I think it's lovely that
you're wearing it it in her honor. Shalimar can be very
overpowering if it's put on with a heavy hand but it's lovely
just the same, I tried a sample once and it just wasn't for me.
Neither of my Grans are big on scents but my mother is and I
believe she wears Jontue when she and my father go out, I must
admit I've had some luck with that one but I'm still searching.
( I'll also admit I'm a sucker for older scents though.) I
thought I'd gone off the deep end with giving scents to my
characters but I find it helps me flesh them out a bit.

is my go to site to look up different
ones. I'm so excited to see what scents you'll be giving your
characters! :-D

Ah, thank you! the anniversary of her death is coming up so
things are a bit miserable over here at the moment. Next time I
go around the perfume shop I will be looking around for
Shalimar; it has such an interesting name, too. I'll be taking a
look for Jontue as well! My mother tends to wear Organza and I
am very fond of that one, it smells lovely. Thank you kindly for
sharing that link :] I have added it to my bookmarks and will be
browsing for fragrances to use for future characters.

You're most welcome my dear. I know there's an ocean dividing us
but please let me know if there's anything I can do for you.
*hugs*Oh wonderful! It's a warmer scent with some citrus and
incense to it kind of like a warm blanket on a cold day. Jontue
on the other hand is a woody floral with gardenia and bergamont,
it'll always remind me of my mother. Ooh, I have to say I quite
like Organza, although I've got to admit I'm a fan of floral
scents. Oh you're very welcome, I've found a few older ones that
I might just have to use in a future fic. Happy browsing dear!
:-)
