Slips Away To Grey

Gah! I take it back! I take it all back! Kiefer's left me for a
bit, didn't leave a note or anything (that really ticked me off)
and here Robert is being the perfect gentleman about things.
Ugh! I'm so so so sorry.

Character Background -
Robert "Bob" Plant – A rather lanky poetic carpenter by trade
from The Black Country area who came to town one brisk autumn
day and never left. Often sees the eldest Mathias sister saddled
down with a group of children, wonders if they're all hers. One
day he'll ask her out. Has taken residence in the old cottage by
the mill.
Gwenhwyfer “Gwen” Mathias – A bookish day dreamy young woman who
works as a nanny for one of Llanidloes more wealthy families.
Would love to have a family of her own but perhaps it just isn't
in the cards. Passes her days with outings with her charges and
day dreaming about the carpenter that lives in the old cottage.
Blanchefleur “Fleur” Mathias – The artist of the Mathias family,
is often seen tramping around the hills with her sketch pad and
a box of paints. Dreams of leaving Llanidloes for good but would
feel guilty leaving her sister behind. Has often spotted the
stained glass maker sneaking glimpses at her through his
curtains. Wants ever so badly to talk to him. Perhaps she's the
man she wished upon a star for as a child.
Artair “Art” Dimmesdale – A quiet man who lives a humble life as
a stained glass artist in the old mill not far from the Bythell
cottage. Can see the youngest Mathias sister out and about on
her daily treks in the hills with her sketch pad. Perhaps one
day he'll talk to her. He seemed drawn to this town for some
reason for as long as he could remember, but he could never put
his finger on it as to why. Perhaps she's the key.
Summary -
The town of Llanidloes is a small one. It's a close knit
community of average people living day to day, perhaps they each
know more about one another then they let on.

I am at a loss with this one and that has an awful lot to do
with the playlist; it's beautiful. I hadn't heard of Vast or VSQ
until now and I love intrumental music, so that's a plus. Also
love that you included Enya in there annnnd, both themes are
wonderful. With not being a huge Led Zep fan, I enjoyed both of
those, so thank you for introducing me to them. I really love
the character descriptions too :3 they all sound lovely and I
can't wait to see how they're going to interact!

Oh you're very very welcome! It seems with this one I've been
left with Mr Plant again, sorry for the switch up again. I'm
admittedly a lighter fan of Led Zeppelin (I fell hook line and
sinker for Bron-Yr-Aur and Tangerine) Although, Mr. Plant's
voice and looks also got me. ;) I'm so so so happy you like the
playlist! :) It's a bit different from what I usually go for and
I surprised myself. I really have to thank you for being so
wonderfully awesome about the muse change and putting up with my
nuttiness. I owe you dear, big time! *hugs*

May Llanidloes Wales
"Look at me Gwenny! I'm an airplane!"
Came a yelp as Peter, my five year old charge zipped past me and
into the open field with his arms held out like wings. It was a
beautiful day, the leaves were just starting to change and the
wind was starting to turn up a bit. Summer was well on it's way
and it merely the second week of the month but the weather quite
hadn't quite warmed just yet. That didn't deter my young
charges, the Rhys children, from wanting to go out and enjoy
themselves in the countryside. Peter, my little aviator in
training had just turned five a week ago, his little sister
Aggie had turned two in July, and the baby, Carrie was just shy
of being nine months old. Aggie toddled beside me, her little
hands holding onto my sweater with a vice like grip that only a
child who had mastered walking could have. I adjusted a sleeping
Carrie who was in the land of nod and cocooned within the sling
I wore across my chest. Thankfully the sun was still providing
some kind of mellow warmth but the wind was liable to come
sweeping along as it was always one to do on days such as today.
Thankfully I'd had the good sense to bundle the children up in
layers today before I took them out on one of usual jaunts
around the countryside I called home. Town, if it could even be
called that, was perhaps ten miles away and my car all but knew
the route by now. We'd settled into one of our favorite spots,
the meadow on the other side of the old orchards where a small
cottage and barn stood. I'd heard around town that a young
carpenter by the name of Plant had moved in sometime ago,
probably two years ago and turned the barn into his studio and
was now finishing a series of fix up jobs in the old cottage,
named Bron-Yr-Aur, that was on the same piece of property. I'd
yet to actually meet this mystery carpenter but from what my
sister, Fleur had told me he was quite a charming fellow. Leave
it to the ever outgoing Fleur to meet him first and include him
in her circle of friends. I always said that Fleur was the the
one that did the living for the both of us. I was always keeping
a watchful eye on the Rhys kids that I rarely if ever went out
for a night on the town. Today, was no different. It was one of
those days where their parents, the esteemed Mr. and Mrs.
Richard P. Rhys were entertaining Mr. Rhys's work colleges. The
children weren't to be seen or heard until I'd tired them out
and taken to my own home for dinner and bath and then returned
them home. I'd worked for the Rhys family since Peter was two
and had stayed on throughout each subsequent child's arrival,
the family liked me and I them, I just didn't agree with how
they used their children as if they were some sort of status
symbol within their social circle. But sadly, I kept my thoughts
on that to myself, I'd grown much too attached to the three of
them to ever voice my opinions.
"Gwenny! You're not watching me!"
Peter whined as I attempted to spread out the old patchwork
quilt beneath a nearby tree and set up Aggie with some blocks
and some of her other toys.
"Yes I am, Peter. You're quite the plane. Just don't fly over by
the stream and don't go anywhere near the orchards, okay? There
are picker bushes all through there. Otherwise I'm going to have
to rescue you."
Peter looked at me, his gleaming green eyes twinkling with a bit
of mischief and he gave me a dimpled grin. I knew that grin all
too well and gave him a stern look. Peter sighed a bit and
finally relented.
"Okay, when I come back will you tell me about King Arthur and
his Knights?"
I settled in next to Aggie as she played with her blocks and
nodded.
"Of course, I'll tell you all about them while you have your
lunch. Now, only go where I can see you. Don't go anywhere near
the stream or the orchards."
Peter nodded and all but ran off in a straight path ahead of me,
his arms spread out making his usual "plane noises". I smiled as
he took a header and popped right back up giving me a wave as if
to tell me he was okay. Aggie played happily by herself shaking
her beloved "Grimby", a rather sad looking doll that had seen
far better days and Carrie happily slept on. I found myself
rummaging through my ever present bag for the book I'd started a
few days before and couldn't seem to find it. I gave up my
search and turned to Aggie and gave her a smile, which she
returned with an equally toothy little grin.
"Alright, little miss. You and I are going to get you talking a
bit more if it's the last thing I do."
Aggie giggled and gave me yet another toothy grin that she knew
melted my heart. I sat her down in front of me and gave her
another encouraging smile.
"Aggie, can you say kitty?"
I was given an impish grin as Aggie thought the word over for a
moment. Carrie stirred for a moment and let out a small whimper
from within her confines of the sling. She was waking up and
probably starving. I noticed that Aggie was looking over at
something before I dug through my bag to find Carrie's bottle.
"Come on Aggie, you can do it. Kitty. Kitty."
"K..dog! Dog! Dog!"
I was struck for a moment and then accepted it, it seems my dear
little was a dog person even at that age. Aggie seemed quite
pleased with herself as she repeated her new found word a few
more times and clapped her hands in glee. I looked up to see a
blue Merle collie running pell-mell toward us with Peter right
along side it a grinning from ear to ear.
"Gwenny! I found a dog! Can we keep him? Please? Please?"
My heart hammered in my chest as Peter and his new furry
companion flopped themselves down both looking at me with the
same expression.
"Oh Peter, I don't know. A dog like this must have an owner
somewhere. Where on earth did you find him?"
Peter gave me one of his winning grins and recounted his tale of
finding the dog out in the meadow where he was playing. Peter
had dropped his rubber ball and the dog had retrieved and
dropped it back at his feet.
The dog looked quite pleased with himself as he settled in with
us on the quilt and gave me a sniff before giving the back of my
hand a lick.
"Oh, alright he can stay but only for lunch. After that we've
got to find his owner."
I said as I gave the dog a scratch behind his ears and went
about passing out a sandwich to Peter from cheerios to Aggie
from the wicker picnic basket I had packed for the day. I
finally was able to free Carrie from her sling cocoon and she
gave me a happy gurgle.
"What if we don't find his owner? Then what'll we do?"
Peter asked between mouthfuls of his peanut butter and jelly
sandwich, his face mapped with worry. Aggie looked at me as if
she were fit to cry any second.
"Oh I suppose he'll have to stay with me until I can find his
owner. There's no way your parents would let you keep him."
Peter pondered this for a moment and then nodded.
"He'd like your house, Gwenny. He'd have lots of places to run
and a nice soft bed to sleep in and you and Fleur would spoil
him rotten just like you do Legolas."
I shook my head as I looked at the collie, who was looking quite
hopeful for a sandwich scrap or two. My own resolve was tested
as I was given the most pitiful look the dog could manage,
complete with a whimper.
"Oh, here."
I muttered as I tossed the dog my own sandwich and went back to
feeding Carrie. I wasn't all that hungry anyway at least someone
got some enjoyment out of it. I was rewarded with a tail wag and
a yip before the dog went about wolfing down his procurement.
Peter looked at me as he finished his lunch and asked for
seconds, he and the dog must have had quite the time because he
never eats more than one chosen thing at lunch.
"Can you tell me more about King Arthur and his Knights?"
I thought for a moment and put on a mock studious face.
"Oh I don't know..."
"You promised!"
"You're right, I did. I did indeed."
I adjusted Carried against me and gave her a pat on the back
before I started my tale about Sir Lancelot.
"Well, lets see. Perhaps I should start with Sir Lancelot? Do
you remember him?"
Peter nodded eagerly as he passed our canine companion a carrot.
"He was Arthur's best friend and he fell in love with Lady
Guinevere."
Sir Lancelot was a very brave knight who was born to a king.
King Ban of Benwick, and when Lancelot was still a baby his
family were thrown out from their kingdom by a particularly
nasty fellow named Claudas. The King had been wounded and one
their journey far far into the countryside baby Lancelot was
taken in by The Lady of the Lake. Do you remember what I told
you about her?"
Peter nodded as he munched on his carrot sticks and Aggie moved
closer to me, her eyelids fluttering a bit as her head drooped a
bit.
"She was the one that gave King Arthur his sword and raised him
when his mother was tending to his father. Was Lancelot a brave
knight?"
I nodded and smiled at Peter's recollection as I continued. Not
many children of his age had a love of Arthurian legend but he
certainly did.
"Oh yes, very brave indeed. Not a soul in King Arthur’s realm
could top him. That's why the Lady of the Lake sent him to help
King Arthur."
"What did Lancelot look like?"
I thought for a moment and cobbled together an image. I'd never
really wondered what my favorite knight looked like. I sighed as
I mulled it over before answering.
"Well, I'd imagine he'd have to be quite tall, broad shouldered
and strong to wear his armor. It's very heavy stuff. Since he's
a knight he's very very brave and since he's so brave he might
be something akin to a lion. Lots of long fair hair, like a
lion's mane. He'd probably have eyes that could strike any foe's
blood cold and warm any lady of court's heart. Probably blue
since blue was the color of royalty and stands for fairness.
He'd have lean features because all noble families are marked by
good long blood lines."
Peter was enthralled in the moment and I found myself falling
more in love with this fictional character that I'd loved since
childhood than even I wanted to. Our canine companion rested
his head on my leg and let out a yawn and Peter gently stroked
his glossy coat.
"Strider! Come on you crazy dog, time to come home!"
A voice called in the distance, steadily making it's way toward
us.
Peter looked over my shoulder and his face broke out into a
grin.
"Oh my gosh! Gwenny! Look, it's Sir Lancelot! He's real!"
Peter yelped as he all but danced around on the quilt causing
the dog to look up toward the other voice.
I was totally and utterly confused until I looked over the way
Peter was pointing and nearly had a heart attack.
"Oh holy shi..."
I stopped myself in time to escape scarring Peter and Aggie's
young ears. Carrie was oblivious to this entire episode that was
unfolding, cuddled safely in my arms and sleeping the sleep of
the innocent. There, walking through the sun drenched meadow was
a dead ringer for my vision of Sir Lancelot. Granted, his armor
had been replaced by a very bohemian dress sense. Looks like our
Lancelot was a bit of a hippie.
"He's even got dragon's blood on him!"
Peter whispered excitedly making me laugh almost outright.
"Strider! Come here!"
The collie recognized his name and his head snapped up to
attention as he looked up toward his master's voice and gave a
happy bark.
"There you are! What's all this then? You've traded me in for a
very nice family?"
The collie, Strider as he was named, merely wagged his tail and
moved toward his master.
"I'm sorry if he's bothered you. He got out on me this morning
and I've spent most of the day looking for him. He can be quite
the mooch when he wants to be."
The collie's owner said with a light laugh as he bent down to
fasten the dog's leash to his collar.
"Oh he wasn't bothering us at all. We had quite the nice time
with him actually."
Peter let out an excited yelp.
"Have you got a horse? Where's your armor? How's Arthur?"
I'd never seen anyone look so confused as the man that stood
before us as he listened intently as Peter rambled on with
question after question. Finally as Peter stopped for a breath
and the bewildered Knight look alike bent down to Peter's eye
level.
"Who exactly do you think I am young sir?"
Peter sighed obviously agitated that his new favorite knight
wasn't quite getting his questions.
"Sir Lancelot, of course! You look just like how I pictured you
when Gwenny told me your story."
"I'm sorry to disappoint you but my name's Robert and I'm
certainly no Lancelot. If I was do you think I'd be making a
living as a humble carpenter? If I were Lancelot I'd be out
riding my white steed and rescuing a damsel in distress. Or
carrying on with Queen Guinevere."
Now that I looked at him more closely I could tell that the
stains on his shirt were from wood stain and shellack rather
than the feared and revered dragon's blood that Peter thought
it was. The precious five year old wasn't convinced.
"But I can tell you I've got a friend named Arthur, the rest of
us bum artists just call him Art though. He's a stained glass
maker that lives in the old mill over that way. I just live over
in the old cottage by the orchards."
"You live next to Fleur and Gwenny then!"
Peter exclaimed as he gave Strider a pat on the head.
"How on earth do you know Fleur? She doesn't have kids.."
"This is Gwenny, she's our nanny. "
Peter said helpfully as I found myself turning beet red.
"So you're Fleur's sister! It's nice to finally meet you, I can
see how you haven't had a day off to yourself. You've got quite
the brood to look after here. Maybe if you're not busy one of
these days I could show you around the workshop? Fleur said
you're always looking for new things to photograph. Or, perhaps
Strider and I can meet you here and show you all around the
property?"
Peter looked at me with pleading eyes and I nodded.
"We'll meet you here tomorrow afternoon weather permitting, Mr.
Plant. Thank you for the offer."
It was his turn to smile as he extended his hand to help me up
and gave it a chaste peck.
"Until yon morrow, fair Lady Guinevere. Strider and I look
forward to giving you and your charges a palatial tour of the
grounds we call our home."

Oh my goodness, that was the most adorable thing I have ever
read! I love how you brought Rob in right after the little story
about Lancelot, that was just perfect. I've been smiling from
ear to ear since Gwen started the tale. Quite an awkward
situation mind, but definitely one I wouldn't mind finding
myself in ;) brilliant work and I look forward to another
update!
