I'm afraid I don't have the energy to work on a banner for this
ficlet tonight, so that one above will have to do for the time
being. I also apologise for not having a summary at hand :/ I
feel awful. I do however have attire, which I will link to below
and then post the first part of this fic. I started writing and
managed a good 19 pages whilst I was away, so I'm going to see
where this one takes me. Terribly sorry for the trouble!

A tortured soul was Lestat, but then again, I was very much the
same. Our lives, for whatever reason, had been conjoined. I
admired him greatly though, either way. It seemed that through
the worst of times, we found solace in one another. There was an
awful lot of understanding between us. Perhaps one day, we would
learn to appreciate each other in a proper manner. Unless
trouble of burdens fell upon us, enabling trust and friendship
for a short period, we seldom bothered glancing the others way.
It saddened me, somewhat. There were more than enough
similarities between us and potential grounds for a more in
depth relationship, but my doubts were infinitely growing. No
matter what became of us in the future, I know my fondness of
the blonde would forever remain. Speaking of his hair, that was
more or less one of the very first traits I noticed. His golden
locks blowing freely in the wind. Then, as he turned his gaze
elsewhere, a beautiful view of crystal blue eyes were on display
and right in my line of vision. Never on earth would there be
       another who captured me so.
Lestat was truly one of a kind and none could compare, both in
looks and personality. He had a certain way about him that I had
never witnessed until a couple of years ago. It seemed as
though, if I knew it to be utterly ridiculous or not, he was
otherworldly. Alien, from another planet, maybe. I held a great
deal of confidence in my theories, though the words of others
beat them down. Even he would no doubt crush my assumptions of
him if he ever found out. Every now and then, my innermost
thoughts and darkest of secrets revolving around this mysterious
man slipped through the cracks in my overflowing speech. To many
people, it was amusing. To him, it was borderline irritating and
I just couldn’t forgive myself, nor could I hide from my shame.
It followed me everywhere like a lost pup.
Wandering through the evergreen woods was always a fascinating
journey to endure. It allowed me to clear my head of all the
negative and altogether morbidness. There was a cool autumn
breeze blowing through the treestars of the gravity defying
sycamore trees on guard like soldiers all around me. Only the
breeze and birds softly tweeting their merry songs could be
heard. It was certainly one of natures most serene of sounds,
with absolutely no mimics added for effect. I approved for the
most part. The only part I did not think much of was the wolf
pack that hunted these parts. Now that I had been reminded of
their presence, it was a little too late to reconsider my route.
Besides, this was a much longer and therefore more relaxing walk
before turning in for the night.
A low growl, followed by an angered howl, echoed throughout the
evening air as I quickened my pace just a little. Ebony eyes
peered at me through the few bushes here and there. The path I
had been following for the last few miles or so had been
diminished quite a few steps back. Several birds had retreated
to their nests for the night, leaving me with nothing but
complete silence to worry all the more. I don’t suppose my
nerves would calm, even if I was not alone.
Somehow, I had managed to head in the direction of a very well
known castle in this town. It beloned to the Lioncourts, of
course. How or why I had unknowingly headed toward Lestat’s
abode, I didn’t know. The incessant smoke rising up above the
tall trees as I reached the hill was quite visible. Its scent,
however, was impossible to decipher. I just could not fathom how
far I would have to walk before I actually reached his home, or
other homes. The only thought running through my mind at the
moment was ‘climb’, followed by a few screams of ‘run’ every
once in a while. The eyes I had spotted just a few moments ago
appeared to be creeping just a foot or two behind. I figured, if
the dangerous hound wanted to kill me, it would have pounced a
       short while ago.
The trees parted not too far ahead and I made a beeline in that
direction. The rustling of leaves and soft sound of pawprints
upon the dry soil closed in all around me. Now, I knew there was
more than one wolf stalking me. When they planned on attacking,
I did not know, but I realised I would soon reach a small, open
field through which I would now have to run. I did not intend to
take my chances. My ability to defend myself was pretty poor and
I severely doubted anyone near the woods would hear my cries for
help. Surely though – there would be someone in Lioncourt manor.
Otherwise, I was more or less done for at this point.
Eyes black… big paws… its poison... its blood... big fire… big
burn… into the ashes… with no return
The sound of trotting wolves faded just a little and I then
began to wonder if me nearing the dim light of the castle up
ahead, right across the now open field, was causing them to fall
back. Perhaps the threat of volatile weaponry was all it took to
fend off the likes of wolves and coyotes. My trek slowed
considerably as I thought of this and an enormous rush of silent
prayer washed over me, thanking the heavens above for having
spared my life. Or was it so? About midway through the tall,
almost maze like spot of grass leading toward civilisation, a
lonesome wolf lunged forward from somewhere in front of me. In a
state of panic and a desperate struggle to keep myself alive, I
kicked off the wolfs head after deciding that knocking it out
would buy me some time and surely enough, it did. All two
seconds of it. Wolves never enter a challenge alone, after all.
I turned my attention onto the brief path I had followed about
halfway through the field and panicked. There, closing in on the
left and right side of me were two other wolves. Both of which
appeared to be female. And here I thought it was only the job of
a lioness to hunt for food. This was quite clearly going to be a
huge struggle, but there was always a way out, no matter the
       situation or circumstances.
A few more hols erupted from the male I had so easily knocked
down moments ago as it staggered off behind the two lovely
females approaching me. Seeing as they were closing in on either
side, it would be nigh impossible to escape without at least a
few bite marks, if not more. Just the thought of being torn to
pieces almost made me cower in fear, but it was no doubt a much
safer idea to take slow, backward steps whilst facing the hungry
animals. Perhaps I could even give them what they were looking
for. There was little for me to live for these days, after all.
Despite the lack of meat on my bones and lacking faith in my own
sense of reality, I went ahead with my plan. I only hoped they
would keep their distance a little while longer, at least until
I reached the other side of the field. My life – daft as it may
sound – was in their paws – and no one but them could save me
       now.
In a choice that could very well have cost me my life, I turned
my gaze back to determine how far from the castle I was. Not too
far at all, but I knew I would not reach the stable in time if I
ran for it. Wolves were incredible runners in that department
and fairly light on their feet. I would be ripped to shreds
before I even had the chance to turn around. So, on I went, my
gaze fixed on the predators of the evening. Every step back I
took seemed to lengthen and before I knew it, I was right in
front of the oaken stable doors and no longer afraid or fearing
       my life would soon end.
In a moment of courage, I picked up a pebble and tossed it at
the wolf nearest me. It only angered her further, of course. Had
I been in the middle of nowhere still, I would have been dead
for doing such a thing. A small need for payback lingered,
though. But, in all fairness, they had not actually done a thing
to me. I was certain they would if given half the chance, but I
still continued to toss pebbles. Where I believed the knock to
the skull and brow would have sent them away howling, it only
encouraged them to near the stable.
Again, panic coursed through my veins as easily as the crimson
blood itself but my intuition had failed me. I should turn and
run into the unlocked doors, but my feet were glued to the
earth. Willing myself to move did no good either. Any moment
now, one or both of these majestic creatures would tackle me
before I could even wrap my fingers around the giant handle. The
fact that they were not barred or chained shut was comforting,
at least. My back soon hit one of the doors as both wolves
cornered me – the injured male keeping his distance as though I
might target him again. But I wasn’t going to – not at this
rate. I probably wouldn’t last much longer now. Unless some sort
       of miracle came my way.
Doubtful, I was. It looked to me as though this was the end of
my journey and no one would even know. Family would seek me out
eventually of course, but by that time I would be nothing but a
pile of bones or dust. Realising this, I broke down right there.
Falling back against the stable door and sobbing into my hands
proved useless. Clearly, my hope that there was someone home or
nearby ceased to be a possibility any longer.
Through my mournful sobs, I was able to choke out a few words of
silent prayer, completely missing the sound just behind me. I
did not even have the time to weigh up where the noise had come
from as I was pulled backwards. Or rather – yanked backwards
into the darkness of the stable. All I could make out were the
whites of a few horses eyes dotted around evenly. Though my life
had been in danger only moments ago, I felt a huge rush of calm
wash over me. How I got in here – that was the question on the
tip of my tongue, but if I couldn’t see then I couldn’t very
well ask. Even if the answer was standing directly behind me.
The coolness of shiny, sharp steel was pressing rather gently
against the skin of my neck; a warning. Lioncourt manor must
indeed be well respected and somewhat feared. My only hope was
that the tall man standing directly behind me was not out for
blood. That would be defeating the point, though, seeing as I
had just escaped that fate. At the hands of this stranger no
less. It would be more or less a drastic turn of events.
“Who are you?” the stranger asked, catching me off guard just a
       little.
Seconds after he spoke, the pressure of the blade increased and
a small drop of warmth travelled down the side of my neck. A
gasp passed through my lips as said warm drop of liquid
continued its trail, soon followed by further droplets. It took
all of my strength to speak – to give him an answer before he
caused more damage. I felt something more than fear in those few
moments and it was fairly overwhelming. A small amount of
curiosity was there, but I found myself unable to properly
convery every rushing thought with words. Would he hurt me still
no matter what I decided to tell him? I didn’t wish to think in
such a negative manner – but it was always there.
“Helene… I live not too far from here… I’m sorry for invading
your home… sir,” I finally mumbled.
The pain in my neck subsided briefly when he no longer pressed
the knife so harshly against me. But my worry came back tenfold
when he spun me around. I was barely able to make out what he
looked like in such poor light, but there were quite clearly a
pair of crystal blue eyes staring rather intently back at me.
The moonlight seeping through the tiny cracks in the roof
shutters enabled me to see the soft blonde waves that cascaded
down upon his shoulders. Now, unless every member of the
Lioncourt family had blonde hair and blue eyes, I knew who this
was. The question was, did he now know who I was? Perhaps he had
       simply realised his mistake.
“I haven’t heard from you in months, cher. Have I done something
       wrong?” he asked, teasingly.
Ah, confirmation that it was indeed Lestat. The younger of a
select few other brothers. These little details were all I knew,
thanks to town gossip. Though, I seldom allowed myself to be
gullible enough to believe every little bit of idle chatter. For
the most part though, it was all quite true. Even if each of the
brothers closely resembled this particular fair haired, stubborn
and highly charismatic youngling of the Lioncourt siblings – I
knew now it was the brother who knew me too and for some strange
reason – I felt the urge to confide in him and share all that I
       had been through.
“I did not think you favoured my company, Lestat” I told him,
undeniable bitterness slipping through every word.
For a long moment, he seemed to be considering my cruel words,
almost as though they had shot him through the heart, but I knew
that was a lie. A man as wicked as he was could not feel any
emotional distress of that kind through the thoughts of such an
unimportant addition to his life. If I was any part of his life
at all, which I was doubting more and more lately. I’d not made
much of an effort to keep in touch over recent months, but
       neither had he.
He seemed to offer a small growl that was rather animalistic in
nature and took a step toward me. My back was now pressed
against the stable foor – the sound of heavy wolf pawprints
pacing outside. Obviously, they knew we would have to come out
sooner or later. And I had no doubt they had a few bones to pick
with me, or from me for that matter. Again with the negativity.
I just couldn’t stop for anything these days and it was only
growing worse. Every remedy in the book had been tried and
tested, without any kind of luck at all.
“I am quite partial to the company of those on the same
wavelength as myself – you are lucky enough to be one of those
people,” he said, a devilish smile dancing across his lips.
Well, never had I known him to be so arrogant. The stubborness
was always there, but that was now nothing compared to those few
words. Showing off his aristocracy – without any real need or
       purpose for doing so.
“Oh, am I now? And just what pray tell, must one be like to earn
the approval of his majesty, hm?” I fired back, two could play
       at this game, after all.
The expression on his face the second I had finished speaking
was priceless. Though I probably should have apologised for such
an outburst, it made me feel quite good. All these months being
ignored by him had taken me along a rough patch – then pushed me
right off the edge into unsafe territory. A powerful effect he
had on me, but he never seemed to notice.

Can I seriously just jump on the next flight over and hug you?
This is beyond fantastic! I adore this and can't wait for the
next update! Please don't worry about not having a summary or a
banner, it doesn't need it at all. You drew me in as you always
do and I can honestly tell you that I was terrified for poor
Helene when she was running from those wolves. You're in no
trouble at all my dear so never fear. Can I adopt this? Please?
:) I adore the theme and clothes as well, I dare say I wish I
had her style! Keep up the amazing work my dear! I do have to
apologize for not responding to this last night though. Forgive
       me?
