P.S. I'm so sorry to post a sad sappy song on such a joyous day
but I actually had a run in with my ex the other day and this
kind of sparked from it. We were very civil to one another and
just talked for maybe two minutes and said our goodbyes. You
have every right to smack me for this one.

Oh my! that sounds as though it went rather well. At least you
didn't argue with each other or anything like that :) how did
you feel after running into him though? it seems to have gone
smoothly, so forgive me for being nosey, haha.
I love the banner by the way ^_^ it's beautiful, as is the song
you have chosen! :)

You are most forgiven my dear :) you're not nosey at all! I'm
quite surprised we didn't argue with each other as well, haha.
To be perfectly honest my heart was torn a bit in two, there was
still a bit of the old him that I adored shining through and the
new person (he's grown up a lot) is someone I regret not getting
to know. Part of me thinks if I had just given him a little
more time things would have worked but deep down I know he never
would have grown up for my sake. I'm happy that he's found
someone that makes him truly happy, they're engaged and having a
baby sometime in the spring. I'm happy for him and sad for me a
tiny bit, if that makes any sense. Kind of like "Well, that
could have been us if we'd hung on a bit longer." but things
just didn't work, I think it was for the best though. I got out
to my car and cried my eyes out for a bit (about three minutes)
and then felt a lot better. I'm so happy you like the banner and
the song my dear :D I'll be posting the story shortly so never
fear :)

Ohh :( I'm sorry that I asked! I really should consider keeping
questions to myself from now on, haha. I hope that I didn't
upset you by asking, but thank you for telling me all that
happened. I can only imagine how you must have felt upon hearing
that he was happily engaged and a soon to be father. That would
have broken me, and I'd have done the same as you! had a little
cry and then refreshed myself and whatnot.
You are a wonderful woman; I think you should know that. I don't
believe I would have coped at all through something like that.
& I cannot wait to read the first update of this story!!! xD

Christmas Eve Lowell Massachusetts
The streets of Lowell were all but dead as the snow quietly
swirled around the picturesque town so many called home for the
holiday season. I'd been sent out on a mission to procure the
last minute things that were always forgotten at this time of
year. Between my case load and all the paperwork I was bringing
home each night it was a wonder I even knew what month it was
anymore.
Half and half, butter, sugar, cranberry sauce, and frozen mixed
vegetables.
I muttered aloud as I made my way up and down the aisles
stopping only to chat with a few old friends.
I glanced down at my list and found I'd only had a stop over in
the frozen foods and then I was done and able to be on my way
home. I finally found what I looking for just as I felt someone
tap me on the shoulder.
“Long time no see, Shelly.”
I turned to see someone who obviously knew me but I couldn't
place him. He was road worn and scraggly but something about his
eyes brought back memories that I'd long buried away when he'd
left me all those summers ago.
“Man, have I changed that much?”
I stood there for a second and then it dawned one me as my eyes
flew open as the recognition hit me like a ton of bricks.
“Oh my god, Joe!”
I yelped as I pulled him into a hug and found myself barely
coming up to his chest. My purse flew open as we stood there
and laughed it off as we both bent down to pick up the contents.
“So, what are you up to these days? Still wanting to help
Boston's down and out?”
Joe asked as we made our way up to the checkout line and put my
purchases up on the belt.
“How'd ya know? Well, I'm working for the city but I'm still a
Welfare case worker. Same problems, different city. How's life
on the road treating you? I hear there's a tour being planned
next year after the new album drops. If I send you a copy will
you sign it? I admit I'm a bit of a fan.”
Joe shifted from foot to foot as he rubbed the back of his neck
and looked at me through his bangs.
“I love the fans but the whole traveling thing is getting pretty
old these days. I wake up half the time not knowing what city
I'm in. I'll put you on the list to receive free tickets and
passes then. Of course I will, you know that. Hell, I'll even
hand deliver it myself.”
I chuckled at I picked up my bags and looked at what Joe was
buying, deodorant, tooth brush, toothpaste, and a turkey tv
dinner. He was spending his holiday alone, his Dad had passed
away two years ago and his mother was living out in Arizona.
“I can only imagine. Hey, would you like to maybe get a cup of
coffee or something somewhere?”
“I don't know, would your husband mind?”
Joe said as he paid for his things and then picked up the bag as
I suddenly felt self conscious about the wedding band that sat
on my left hand, I felt myself turn a shade of red as I pushed a
lock of hair behind my ear.
“Actually he's visiting his family in New Hampshire for the
holidays. I'm house sitting for my mother back at the old
house.”
Joe nodded as he studied me for a second and then followed me
out to my car. The butterflies in my stomach had multiplied to
about a thousand as I offered him a ride, halfheartedly hoping
he'd decline, but surprisingly he accepted.
“So, what does your husband do, Shell?”
We turned a corner down onto Providence and past a few of our
old haunts.
“He's an arson detective with the Boston Police Department. His
name is Mike Kellerman.”
“Oh wow, you two have kids?”
I pulled in front of one of the tiny diners that lined the lower
part of Ash avenue and reached into my wallet.
“Uh...no, but we're working on it. How about you?”
I leafed through my wallet and found a photo of Frank in his
dress blues after he'd graduated from the academy.
“Man, he's got red hair, Irish, huh? No, no kids that I know of.
How about that coffee?”
We walked into the tiny coffee shop in a peaceful silence and
took a booth in the back.
“I still can't believe you're married, Shelly. You were always
so...independent.”
I took a sip of my coffee and sighed as I twirled my band and
evaded Joe's watchful eyes.
“People change, Joe.”
Joe sat back and studied me for a second and then leaned
forward.
“You love him?”
My heart shattered as he asked me the one question I wished he
never would. Mike and I had married after two months of knowing
one another we'd been set up by friends who thought we'd be
perfect for one another. The truth was that we were on totally
separate levels when it came to what we wanted for ourselves.
Not one of our friends knew how rocky our marriage had become
and that we were under a trial separation, that was the reason
why I was staying with my mother who had gone to visit some
friends in Florida.
“I'd love to say that I love him but I'm not one to lie, Joe. I
might as well tell you that we're separated that's why I'm here
to top it off I'm back living home with my mother. Oh god, you
must think I'm pathetic.”
I covered my face in my hands as tears threatened to spill from
my eyes. I'd always wished he'd come back and now that he was I
didn't know what to do. I was complete mess.
“Hey, hey, you're not pathetic, you're still Shelly to me and
you always will be. Why don't we go over to Wilson's and grab a
drink, something stronger then coffee, huh? I think we could
both us it.”
Thirty minutes later we'd each a drink at one of our favorite
haunts and were sitting in my car watching the snow fall.
“You know, if you ever need a place to stay I've got a place in
Vermont I mean if you're thinking about moving out from your
Mom's place.”
I smiled at Joe's generosity and felt my skin start to tingle as
his hand caressed my face.
“I think I'd like that. Consider me your house sitter while you
tour.”
“Only if you promise to come out and keep me company on some of
those international dates. A guy gets lonely, y'know? In the
mean time you can always write that book of yours.”
My dreams of being a writer were put on hold when I got the city
job working in Welfare and my manuscripts, along with my word
processor now sat in my mother's hall closet.
“Well, you've got things all planned out, don't you?”
Joe finished off his coffee with a sly grin as he pulled his
coat tighter around himself and offered me his hand as I got up
from my side of the table.
“Can you blame me? I've only had six years to plan everything
out.”
The drive back to my Mother's was a quiet one, I'd dropped Joe
off at his hotel and back tracked my way across town. I was fine
until I saw Mike's car parked in the side yard.
End of Part 1

Grrr, I can't believe you ended it there! hehe
I really love it so far and it's nice and refreshing with it
being something out of the ordinary, if you know what I mean :D
I'm dying to find out a little more about the relationship they
used to have, long before they went their separate ways. And the
banter that is expected to come about between Shelly and Mike..
