I couldn't help myself so I made a new banner for my newest
creation. I hope you like it my dear :) I'm so sorry for the
horrid summary my dear.

The Summary:
Maggie Mitchell's fresh from grad school and ready with her
five year plan or so she thought. She could have gone anywhere
in the world but she's been invited to stay with her brother
Pete in San Diego. What's the worst that could happen? What
happens when her world is flipped upside down by one of her
brother's buddies and sparks fly between her wild older brother
and her best friend?

I'm so sorry about not posting this last night, I got home at
six and ended up passing out after making dinner. I'm also so
sorry that it's so damn short, please forgive me.
June San Francisco
Maggie Mitchell's fool proof five year plan:
1. Get job at prestigious accounting firm.
2. Find better apartment
3. Find man of my dreams and marry him
4. Start own accounting firm with solid backing
5. Perhaps start a family (presumably if not divorced)
“I see you've just finished graduate school, Miss Mitchell.
Looks very promising but I'm sorry I can't offer you the job.
You're just not qualified.”
In my mind's eye my “five year fool proof plan” has just gone up
huge billowing flames. I sat in stony silence staring at the
little pencil neck that went by the name of William Hastings
trying ever so hard not to leap across the desk and strangle
him. My nails were digging into the fine teak wood of the chair
and scraping long gashes.
“What is that scratching sound? Do you hear it?”
I calmly tried to stop but ended up doing it all the more and to
the displeasure of Mr. Hastings.
“If you'll kindly show yourself out, Ms. Mitchell.”
I felt a scream starting to build as I collected my portfolio
and purse and walked out of the accounting firm of Hemmings
Hastings and Franklin slamming the door in my wake. I'd
graduated from grad school with an MBA in certified public
accounting a year ago and I'd yet to find a job with any firm
within the confides of San Francisco. As I drove home I felt
tears slide down my cheeks and wicked case of the hiccups
starting. I was feeling completely hopeless as I turned into the
tiny little parking area that was right next to the apartment
building I called home. I hurriedly wiped away a few stray tears
as I got out of the car ans trudged into the building and up the
stairs to my closet sized apartment that I shared with my best
friend since kindergarten Lottie. Lottie hadn't had a problem
finding work at all she was whisked into the nearest curating
job at the local indie art museum and adored it that is until
they cut her hours to virtually nothing. No job was safe it
seemed these days and it forced people, people like us, to live
hand to mouth. I unlocked the front door and kicked off my shoes
and found Lottie lounging on the couch with grin that threatened
to crack her face as she listened enthusiastically to someone
over the phone.
“Oh she just walked in, alright, hang on a sec.”
Lottie thrust the phone into my hands and gave me a pleading
look before she mouthed the name Pete to me making me go rigid.
“Hhello?”
“Hey there sister dear, your lovely friend Lottie tells me you
were a shoe in for that interview...why are you crying?”
I'd broken down in hitching sobs and I wasn't even able to get
it out so I passe the phone to Lottie and hoped she could
articulate through my sobs. Lottie studied me for a moment as I
tried to tell her what had happened.
“She said she's sorry for crying but they told her she was still
under qualified for the position they advertised.”
Lottie listed intently and then nodded before turning to me,
passing me a few tissues and gave me a pat on the back.
“Pete wants to talk to you, he says he's got a plan you might
like.”
She passed me the phone as she grinned from ear to ear and
watching me intently.
“Maggie, it's not the end of the world, there are plenty of
opportunities around California. You could even work as a
civilian contractor and teach budgeting seminars or teach us
military mooks how to actually file our taxes. Why don't you
come to San Diego for a while? I'm on the base half the time
anyway so I can sublet you my place until you find something.
I've got the weekend off see you then.”
Reluctantly I agreed but only on one condition, that Lottie come
with me. Surprisingly Pete agreed and told me that he'd have the
place spic and span and gleaming for our awaited arrival. I
placed the phone in the cradle and wiped my eyes for the final
time with a sigh as I looked over at Lottie who was about to
burst.
“Pack your bags we're going to San Diego.”
Lottie let out a yelp of joy and all but tackled up into the
couch hugging me and saying something about a fresh start.
“I've got to go and pack! We, have to pack, oh my god when are
we leaving?”
I thought for a moment as we both looked around our shabby
little apartment. Most of our furnishing were either second hand
or had come with the place. Lottie and I exchanged looks and
then reached an agreement.
“Why don't we just worry about clothes and linens?”
“It's a deal, Pete's got the weekend off so I guess we'll be
meeting him then.”
Friday Morning 6 AM
“Why the hell do we have to go so early? I'm not even remotely
awake yet.”
Lottie mumbled as we carried the last of our suitcases out to
the car and settled in for the long drive ahead of us, hopefully
we could beat out the usual traffic.
“I know I know, Lottie but we've got a seven hour drive ahead of
us and if we leave now we'll hopefully get there by one. That
way we've got time to settle in.”
Lottie looked at me skeptically and then leaned over the
backseat and grabbed her bag and rifled through finally emerging
with a mix tape.
“We couldn't start this thing off without a mix tape here now
could we? Put the top down and let's go!”
I laughed as I put the top down and pulled away from the curb
without so much a second glance at the place we once called
home.
Seven Hours Later
“Alright, turn right onto Altair ave and it should be right down
on the left side.”
Lottie said as we pulled up to the front gates and I grabbed my
wallet from my purse as we were stopped by the front check
point.
“State your business, Ma'am.”
“We're here to see Lieutenant Peter Mitchell.”
A smile crossed the guard’s face as he looked Lottie and I over
and at my military ID card.
“Man, Maverick's always got the ladies after him. But you just
missed him, he's on his way down to the Kansas City Barbeque
with a few of the other instructors.”
I rolled my eyes and groaned thanking the guard with a smile as
I did a U turn and went down the road we'd just been down.
“What does that mean?”
Lottie asked as she attempted to hang on to her sunglasses and
fold the map.
“It means he's out drinking with his buddies after they're out
of work for the day. He's so much like Dad it drives me nuts!”
I caught sight of a blue Buick piled with service men and pulled
up along side them, I spotted Pete's Cheshire cat grin and told
Lottie to get his attention. We pulled up along side one another
and Pete leaned out the back window and waved.
“Hey! Long time no see, sis! Welcome home!”
I could hear the radio station change from their car and Pete's
grin got even larger as he heard Rebel Rouser come on over the
speakers. A gleam sparkled in his eye that reminded me so much
of our Dad that it was insane.
“Oh...you know what that means, Mag! C'mon Frank show my sister
how it's done!”
I noticed the driver was giving me quite the stare down as he
gave the Buick’s engine a bit of a rev. I rolled my eyes and
Lottie looked at me with wide eyes shaking her head and cinching
her seat belt a little tighter.
“Don't do it! Don't do it, Maggie!”
“Oh what, Maggie's too chicken!”
I always hated when Pete called me chicken on anything so my
mind was made up.
Six service men commenced clucking at me and gripped the
steering wheel a little tighter and gunned it. The light changed
in the blink of an eye and Lottie let out a scream as we took
off down the narrow stretch of road. We rounded a corner down
onto Quincy ave with the Buick hot on our heels, Lottie still
screaming her head off about safety and enrolling us all in
driver's ed again.
“You're all crazy!”
I felt a nudge on the back bumper and Lottie looked at me
terrified.
“What the hell is going on!? Oh my god we're going to die!”
“We're not going to die, Lottie just hang on!”
“What?! What do you mean hang on?! Margret Elise Mitchell don't
you dare do what I think you're going to do!”
The Buick's driver pulled up along side of me gave me a wave and
then a shocked look as I cut him off and barreled down last exit
and turned into the Kansas City Barbecue.
Lottie sat there staring me, her hair wind whipped and going
every which way and a scowl starting to form.
“Don't you ever do that again! You could have gotten us killed!”
She shrieked and then grabbed her bag from the floorboards.
“But you had fun, right?”
Lottie looked at me as she thought it over a small grin forming
as our competitors pulled in along side of us.
“Of course I did! But, let's not make a habit of it, shall we?”
Pete was the first one out of the car as he sidled up to the
passenger side and gave us a grin.
“Long time since it's come down to that. Drinks are on us,
ladies. Let me introduce the guys to you.”
Pete gestured over to the car as his gaggle of pals got out and
grinned at us.
“That's Hank Sombersby, ammunition’s instructor, Greg Parker,
diving instructor, Jimmy Baker, flight systems coordinator, and
our dutiful driver over there with the brooding expression and
mustache is Frank Dillon, fellow Top Gun instructor and one time
para rescue for the Air Force.”
Pete turned to Frank and gave him a thud on the chest.
“Told you Maggie here had a lead foot, Frank.”
Frank's otherwise stoic face contorted into something of a smile
as he came over to shake my hand.
Pete on the other hand was chatting up Lottie as we made our way
into the bar and took various spots at the bar. Rounds of drinks
flowed like water as Lottie and I stuck to nursing our otherwise
watered down rum and cokes watching with a mixture of glee and
horror as the merry group of five broke out into an impromptu
rendition of Build Me Up Buttercup. I checked my watch and was
shocked to find that we'd been here nearly four hours, I looked
around and found no clock in sight. How typical of a bar.
“Are they always this way?”
Lottie asked she flagged down the bar tender and ordered up
fresh drinks.
“Only when they're off duty or on liberty. Pete's sweet on you,
you know.”
Lottie shrugged it off with a laugh as she sipped her drink.
“Well, that Frank guy's staring at you, Mags. Go on and talk to
him.”
“Only if you go and play pool with Pete.”
“It's deal.”
We clinked our glasses together and finished our drinks before
going our separate ways for the evening.

I love this first update! xD and no worries at all over the
slight delay, it was so worth it :D
I felt really bad for Maggie when she wasn't offered that job. I
do think that some places need to be a little loose when it
comes to things like that though, and give people a chance no
matter what. Also, the racing scene, that was brilliant! and I'd
no doubt act the same as poor Lottie in a situation like that,
haha. Now, I just can't wait to find out how the 'couples' get
along! ;)

I'm so sorry about not posting for the past few days. I'm so
glad you like it! :D I can promise you that I will be posting
either tonight or early tomorrow. I'll also be flipping back and
forth between this and my other Frank story, haha. So either way
you'll have something to read. I can tell with this one that
the sparks between Pete and Lottie were immediate :D

No apologies! xD all is forgiven. I definitely can't wait for
the next update! and I'm still in love with the first one. I
don't mind that you'll be working on both of them. I should
consider doing the same thing so I can catch up with the ones I
haven't even begun yet!
