Your husband is quite the plot bunny! haha. I'm going to attempt
to make this one run a little longer than the others, because
given the song, this will most likely be a struggle for one of
the main characters. The outfit is rather nice if I do say so! I
think I pick and choose things I wish I owned, haha. Glad you
like the song too! it's also in my playlist and has been played
a total of 16 times already xD .. I have already begun writing
this one, so an update is due very soon.

Just want to update this with a little summary, or rather, some
notes that I've made to help me along :]
- Maggie was once married to a very abusive man who beat her
everytime his ideals fell through. He caused her severe bodily
harm, including bruises, bloody lips, gashes above her eyes and
swollen cheeks. That man was Frankie Flannery.
- She divorced him after only one year of marriage and ran away
to live somewhere alone, away from all the gang violence that
had been the sole reason behind Frankie's abuse.
- After finding it incredibly difficult to make ends meet by
living alone, Maggie became tormented by her inner demons and
memories of the past. She turned to something life threatening
to keep the peace with herself.
- Her old friend Jackie and Terry pay her an unexpected visit
one evening, as they hadn't seen her in some months. Unlike
their other visits, Jackie finds out just what his friend has
been upto since fleeing Hell's Kitchen.

[move]Little short for a first update, but there will be more so
never fear![/move]
My apartment felt as though it had been lifted from its burial
site near an open field and tossed onto a high peak deep within
the mountains of Alaska. I had not been able to pay any of my
bills over the last few weeks, and was currently living off
bread and butter as they did in the olden days. Of course, there
was no room to complain, for I hadn’t even been able to keep a
job for more than two months. After divorcing my violent ex
husband, I’d moved as far away from the city as possible.
Unfortunately, the farthest I travelled was merely a few blocks
from Hell’s Kitchen, but still it was better than nothing. I’d
spent many nights curled up on my sofa, staring blankly at the
unpainted walls in the hope that someone, somewhere, would come
and rescue me from all this misery. Since parting ways with my
abusive other half, I’d become very much a loner and became too
frightened to even step outside the doors of this building. In
truth, half the people who lived in this area were abnormal and
highly unpredictable. Now, suppose I could say the same thing
about myself, only recently, how they would take to me was
something I couldn’t face.
As I sat on the pitch black sofa that was situated neatly
against one of the living room walls, I looked longingly out of
the bay window. I hadn’t been able to afford to buy any curtains
or blinds after moving in, and so had to make do without them.
It was unnerving of course, but as my bedroom already had blinds
when I moved in, I didn’t make too much of a fuss. All of the
luxuries I’d been draped with during my time with Frankie could
never take me back. If only for myself, I would stay away from
what once was.
The soft melody of Christmas music seeped through the walls as I
sat there, clinging to a tattered cushion I’d found in one of
the spare rooms. Tears sprung from my eyes at the happier times
I’d had with my friends, before I was encouraged to marry into
the Flannery family. Having loved the Flannery seniors very
much, I jumped at the chance without any second thoughts. Now, I
only wish I could have refused and stood my ground. Prior to our
marriage, I’d never once spotted any cruelness in Frankie. Never
would I have believed he had it in him to beat a woman, but
found myself repeating it over and over in my head at the
horrible memories of him breaking me, psychically and
emotionally.
Where are you Christmas
Do you remember
The one you used to know
I'm not the same one
See what the time's done
Is that why you have let me go

Words slipped from my mouth without my knowledge. I had never
been much of a singer, but the words hit home pretty hard, and I
found myself caving all over again. Once upon a time, Christmas
and me went together hand in hand, and a jolly smile once hung
on my lips. Since losing every ounce of pride I had in me at the
hands of a very harsh man, a smile was but a memory of the old
me. Nothing and no one had treated me well enough since then,
though I seldom allowed anyone near me. The scars and bruises
that adorned my body were much too dominant to chance someone
noticing them. Questions only made me delve even further into
myself, and each time that happened, it was impossible to come
back out again. I cried further tears at the thought of being so
alone, but knew no one would believe anything I told them about
what had happened to me, not even my old friends. How I wished I
could just go back for a moment or two to see them, to hold them
close to me, let them know I love them, and come away safely.
Despite being Irish, luck was never around to bless me, for one
of my truest and most loyal friends in the world was the brother
of Frankie. I couldn’t imagine I’d ever see him again, and
couldn’t imagine he would know how to look at me the same way
after all the lies Frankie had no doubt been telling him since I
just up and left him.
My friend Terry was a possibility, someone I might be able to
contact, but knowing how close he was to Jackie Flannery made me
uneasy. It was for the best, that I had pulled away from all of
them without a word of goodbye, even if they disliked me for it.
I did not wish to live the rest of my life wondering anyway. No
matter how much I adored my friends, their interests made life
with them a lot like playing Wizarding Chess. It was do or die
for them every single day, and I just couldn’t live with it.
An argument erupted in the room next to mine, and the sound of a
woman crying in pain made me cover my ears with my hands and
scrunch my face up in disgust. Still, I could hear the fists of
a man pounding into every item of furniture that stood in his
way, and then it came. A loud smack vibrated through the wall on
one side of the room and her mournful cries sent me over the
edge. It reminded me too much of what had happened to me, though
a milder form of. I made a mental note to seriously injure my
next door neighbour the next time I caught sight of him, and as
I sped into the bathroom and reached into the cabinet for a
bottle of pills, my head began to spin. The bathroom walls
seemed to close in on me as I tried to focus my eyes on
something still, but it was no use. I downed half the bottle and
dropped it into the sink, hanging my head over it for a moment
to steady myself. I was still a little dizzy as I stumbled
through the hall and back to the comfort of my black as night
sofa, with my only scarlet cushion. Rather than curl up in a
little ball as I normally would, my body simply fell limp, no
doubt damaging my nose in the process as I went forward with
nothing to grab onto. I lay there for a while, gathering my
thoughts and trying desperately to stop my brain from thinking
so much, for it wasn’t helping with this dominant dizziness that
had taken over.
Footsteps broke my concentration as they grew louder and louder
with every step. It sounded very much as though there was more
than one set, but I chose to ignore it and held my cushion over
my aching head. Voices then broke my blissful state of
nothingness as knocking followed. I would know that voice
anywhere, even if I hadn’t heard it in months. But, there was
absolutely no way I was going to open the door to him, or
whoever was with him. Perhaps, it was Frankie who had tagged
along. My heart began to race in my chest and the thumping sound
tortured my ears as I wondered what I should do. Then, as if he
had heard me, Terry called out once more.
“Maggie, babe. Let us in, Jackie’s dying for a bud” he said.
My heartbeat slowed to a natural rhythm upon realisation that it
was only my two dearest friends, if I could still call them
that. Of all the things they could have said though, they chose
to mention beer. I cracked a very small smile at the idea,
shocking myself.
“Give me a minute” I yelled, rummaging around the apartment and
hiding evidence that would suggest I wasn’t doing all that well
on my own.
Once I had cleared some space and tidied away all my bills and
blood stained clothes, I glanced down at my arms and cursed
aloud. Terry knocked again and asked what was taking me so long,
jokingly suggesting I had a guy in here and was trying to find a
good hiding place for him, at which I heard Jackie growl. I
winced at the sound, knowing how much he cherished his older
brother.
I decided to play it by chance and leave my arms bare, not
wanting to anger the boys any further. I only hoped they would
not notice the fading scars and darkened bruises. Another knock
sounded and I laughed a bit, racing over to let them inside.
Barely having chance to open the door fully, Terry almost
knocked me over with a bear hug and whispered all kinds of
cutesy things into my ear. I began to cry a little and giggle
like a small child at the nonsense coming out of his mouth. When
he let me go, Jackie stepped forward and held out his hand. How
formal, I thought. I wiped away a stray tear from my cheek and
extended my hand to meet his. Surprising me, he pulled me closer
to him and right into his welcoming arms. Now, I really did not
know where to put myself as my face leaked like a waterfall onto
his shoulder. As he squeezed me tightly in his embrace, my feet
just about lifted off the ground; somehow, he had grown a bit
since we last saw one another, but I can’t say I cared much. It
was nice to know they did not hate me for running away.
“How have you been, babe?” Terry asked.
“Oh, things have been alright to be honest” I said, “I.. well,
I’m really sorry for not telling you I was leaving.”
Terry and Jackie exchanged looks as I stared at the floor
beneath my feet. After a few moments of awkward silence, the
dreaded question appeared out of thin air, curtsey of Jackie. He
asked, with absolutely no regard for anything or anyone
involved, why I left his brother. I didn’t quite know how to
answer him, but when I realised they had both leaned in a little
closer to hear my reason, I took a deep breath and came up with
the best lie possible. Normally, I was very good at lying
through my teeth, but I had been through so much lately that it
became almost new to me.
“Frankie and I decided we married much too soon, and didn’t
really have the chance to get to know one another. Rather than
spend the first year of our married life doing that, we realised
that parting ways was the only other option we had.” I said,
forcing a smile.
Jackie believed my tall tale immediately and nodded his head in
understanding, whereas Terry looked at me a while before forcing
his own smile. Despite myself, my face had faltered as I had
told them about the cause of our separation, and he must have
noticed. My mood was like a weather report on my face, nothing
went unnoticed, which was a rather unfortunate trait to have,
especially in moments like these. To save myself any further
questioning, I told them I’d grab them both a beer before
running off into the kitchen.
I listened in on their silent chatter as best I could whilst
opening the bottles with a knife. I hadn’t been able to afford a
bottle opener, and was quite surprised by the fact I hadn’t yet
lost any fingers.

Terry – “You really that slow mate? Can’t you see she just lied
like hell?”
Jackie – “What? You callin’ me a dope, Terry? I can’t see why
she’d lie about that”
Terry – “Screw off, you know as well as I do not a word of that
was the truth”
Jackie – “Alright then know it all, prove it and I’ll believe
it”
As I walked back in with the cooled beers in my hands, minus one
for myself given the amount of medication I’d taken before, the
atmosphere had changed severely. I sat down between them both
and handed them their drinks, silence surrounding us. Terry
moved his hand and lay it gently on my knee, giving it a little
squeeze as he opened his mouth to speak. At first, no sound came
out, but then he grew a pair and spoke words I had hoped would
not come into any conversation we might have.
“So, what really brought you here, Maggie?” he asked.
My head snapped up to look at him, and when I saw how serious he
was, I shrunk back into the sofa. As though to find some form of
comfort, I leaned closer to Jackie. He simply looked down at me
with the same serious expression on his face, teasing me until I
gave them an answer that didn’t sound farfetched.
“Alright, but if you so much as start screaming at me, you’re
both out” I said, staring at my hands.

Jackie reached his hand over after Terry removed his from my
knee, and wrapped it around mine. He pulled my hand onto his lap
and held it firmly as though to reassure me that he would not
react violently, which I found hard to believe. If he was
anything like his brother, which I had known to be true, though
Jackie was much worse for outbursts, then he would react
horribly to what I was about to tell them. Deep down, I think he
knew he would have to force himself to remain calm. The fear in
my eyes seemed to ache in his heart, and when he lessened his
grip on my hand and urged me to go on, my voice shook a little.
“Okay, well, where do I start. Basically, it all comes down to
the fact that Frankie should have bought himself a punch bag” I
said, not daring to look either of them in the eyes.
For a split second, I thought everything was calm and peaceful,
until an uproar beside me made me jump about ten foot in the
air. Jackie, going back on his word, had risen from the sofa and
proceeded to yell profanities at me for even saying such a thing
about his loving brother. I couldn’t help but scowl through my
tears at all the nice things he was saying about him, for he
clearly didn’t know Frankie that well at all.
“Sounds to me as though you know absolutely nothing of your
brother, Jackie Flannery” I yelled back, standing from the sofa
and stepping toward him until his back hit the far wall.
Terry simply sat still, afraid to move, as though even a peep
from him would get him killed by either one of us. Jackie and I
were emanating fire and directing it right at one another as we
stood on the other side of the room from Terry. Our noses were
so close they almost bumped each time we breathed. Our glares
stabbed each others souls with nothing but pure hatred, and yet
we both seemed to hold a glimpse of sadness in our eyes at what
I had spoken. Somewhere inside him, despite the adoration he
held for Frankie, Jackie seemed to weigh up the possibility of
his brother being a no good liar and a very bad man.
“Is it proof that you want, Jackie? I heard you, Terry cannot
prove it for you, but I can” I said, holding out my arms in
front of him and turning them upside down.
Jackie fell back against the wall and his mouth dropped open in
shock at the state of my bruised and beaten skin. My skin used
to have so much life, and was once the colour of snowflakes.
Yet, since Frankie managed to get his hands on me when we lived
together for a dreadful twelve months, it had patches of ash
coloured bruises and deep scarlet wounds that hadn’t fully
healed.
“Jesus Christ!” Terry half yelled as he ran toward me.
“Terry, you don’t need to make such a big deal out of it” I
said, trying to remain calm.
I had taught myself the only thing I had ever learned in this
life, and that was to never show fear, and never ever repeat
your mistakes. I’d locked myself away in this apartment since
running away, and bit by bit the puzzle pieces that had
shattered and fallen somewhere behind me were rebuilding
themselves. If either one of these two got their hands on
Frankie, my hope of starting anew would be diminished.
“How can you even say that? Look at what he did to you!” Terry
shouted, tears streaming down his face.
I looked over at Jackie and noticed his eyes filling with their
own pools of water. In his expression, I saw a mixture of every
emotion I could think of, but the most dominant was guilt.
Jackie looked as though he had just committed murder and knew
not what to do with himself, or what to say to break the ice
that had built over the last few minutes. I shook my head at
them both and walked over to the sofa, plonking myself down and
staring once more deep into the bare walls of my apartment.
Terry and Jackie both managed to sit beside me after watching
intently at the state I was in.
“You know we have to do something, Maggie” Terry said.
It seemed almost as though he was asking Jackie for permission,
as he looked over at his best friend, whom nodded his head in
agreement. Once more, Jackie held my hand in his as he lay it on
his lap. He gave it another squeeze and leaned over to whisper
words that I’ll never forget.
