JamesGames thinks that Debate is Knowledge. I think not. Please
weigh in on this to settle our dispute.
I'd like for this to be a discussion only for others besides JG
and I

When you debate with someone, you learn stuff. KNOWLEDGE =
LEARNING.

What is knowledge? Knowledge is "information,
understanding, or skill that you get from experience or
education" (Merriam Webster), "awareness of something- the state
of being aware of something" (Merriam Webster), "the fact or
state of knowing; the perception of fact or truth; clear and
certain mental apprehension" (Dictionary.com), "facts,
information, and skills acquired by a person through experience
or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a
subject" (Google) and "awareness or familiarity gained by
experience of a fact or situation" (Google). To sum that all up,
knowledge is an awareness of a fact, true or false.
What is learning? "The acquisition of knowledge or skills
through experience, study, or by being taught" (Google), to
"gain or acquire knowledge of or skill in (something) by study,
experience, or being taught" (Google), "become aware of
(something) by information or from observation" (Google), to
"commit to memory" (Google), "the activity or process of gaining
knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or
experiencing something- the activity of someone who learns"
(Merriam Webster) and "knowledge acquired by systematic study in
any field of scholarly application" (Dictionary.com). To sum
that all up, learning is the process of gaining knowledge
through experience, books, research, etc.
Also, do certain definitions look similar to you?
Information, understanding, or skill that you get from
experience or education = The acquisition of knowledge or skills
through experience, study, or by being taught
There's more; look around.
Debate is "a formal discussion on a particular topic in a
public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing
arguments are put forward" (Google), "argue about (a subject),
especially in a formal manner" (Google), "a regulated discussion
of a proposition between two matched sides" (Merriam Webster)
and "a formal contest in which the affirmative and negative
sides of a proposition are advocated by opposing speakers"
(Dictionary.com). To sum that all up, debate is the process of
collecting knowledge to form constructive arguments against your
opponent. You need to collect knowledge and learn in order to
debate. Without knowledge on a subject, you cannot debate it.
Even now, you are learning by reading this debate. Honestly,
debate is more similar to learning then it is to knowledge
because you are collecting knowledge; you are learning. Also,
people often learn while writing debates.
That is all, thank you for reading.

Locking this topic
1: Incredibly pointless
2: BF why would you ask that question? How would you engage in
an argument without knowing anything?
