Gamestar Mechanic's New Updates

New Update!
Hi, Mechanics --
We've got a brand new update that's got a little bit for
everyone! It starts with some bug fixes that we've been able to
implement such as some of the energy sprites not being destroyed
correctly.
We've also released the brand new Pink Block Caper Challenge,
available to all users for free! Finally you can earn the
elusive and fabled Pink Block.
A new premium pack has also been added to the store, the Tank
Trials Pack! This pack contains all of the Tank avatar sprites
from the League, Acheron, and Altair schools. Check out the
store for more information!
As always, keep up the great designing and we look forward to
seeing the kinds of games that are made with the new sprites.

Well Gamestar has seeming devised a new update just to mess with
all of my plans. I know this is not true, but it just happens to
look that way at times.
What else does this update entail? Well, the League Jumper for
one is gone. Not the worst thing but it was one of the classics.
The pink block and the tank-like sprites are as the update
message say. The energy sprites have been fixed too. Although
you do get the tank sprites without doing the challenge so I
don't see the point (at least if you are already premium, not
sure about non premium members who aren't supposed to have
access anyways).
They have patched two of the more fundamental points of game
design that is not restricted by the rules of the League which I
happen to use often. Balancing and other things supported by the
Quest are not what I strive for.
Anyways, at 0 speed the avatar/grazers no longer get a +2 speed
boost from ghastly phantoms, gnashers, zombies, etc. This makes
some games outright impossible. The bigger change is how they
modified off screen Phoenix Blocks. Before, you could say have a
1 x 2 screen game, put all of your phoenix blocks on the second
screen connecting it to things on the first, and then switch it
back to 1 x 1 to retain the regeneration factor without the
phoenixes being in sight or obstructing anything. Now if you do
so, the thing connected to the phoenix is deleted along with
everything overlapped with it leaving you a phoenix block not
connected to anything.
This ruins a lot of game types such a freefall unbounded point
collector that's nearly infinite, a true Flappy Bird copy, etc.
I also think they patched the cancel glitch to an extent.
Farewell 166 minute and 39 second timers.
Not sure if anything else was impacted, didn't do very extensive
testing.
What does everyone else think of this?
[Not sure if this should be moved to General Discussion or not]

They finally got so many inquisitive comments that they made a
whole challenge for the Pink Block. :)
I'm glad the energy bug is fixed, but more importantly, pink
block.

I hope they fixed the glitch of not getting the critic and
reviewer badges. :P

I looked for some of the bugs you pointed out, and here's what I
found:
The League Jumper seems to still be there. Are you sure it's
gone? The quest where you get the sprite is a Repair quest, so
if you've already beaten it, it won't tell you what the rewards
are when you beat it again.
I see the speed boost problem, and it looks like it was
implemented because of that Tank quest with the zombies. It
definitely breaks some games, though it opens up a few
opportunities as well.
The Phoenix Block thing is weird--I didn't know you could
actually do that before. I've just been hiding Phoenix Blocks
behind other blocks, but I can see how that trick would have
been pretty useful...
Lastly, the timer change--WOOO! THOUSAND-MINUTE TIMER!
I'm easily amused, I guess.
Addendum: Pink block.

Aww.... I'm sad that the phantom/zombie speed boost thing is
gone. But the tanks look pretty cool, making for some possible
awesome airship-like levels that would look silly with a turtle.
Also, pink block. 'Nuff said.

You are very observant, bfitzpatrick. =P
Unofficially:
[li]League Jumper was not intended to be removed. It was a small
error on our back-end that was just fixed.[/li]
[li]Zombie speed-up on 0 sprites: while it does break some games
it actually allows for some behavior like Omni_Builder described
and hopefully will pave way for new game ideas.[/li]
[li]Phoenix Block is an interesting catch.[/li]
Also thanks for your research on testing. =D

Was the bio section purposely cut out?

Oh. Yeah. Too many users were posting personal information and
we felt having a "bio" section did not help to prevent personal
information being posted. So we removed it.
