Since no one was paying attention to her, Shadow slipped off the
boxes and crept up behind Kat. Holding her breath, she reached
for the gun.
Shadow had a thing about guns. Ever since her mother's murder,
she'd tried to dismantle every gun she saw. Until now, she'd
always gotten away with it.

Kat felt a slight tug on her gun and quickly spun around and
held the little girl at gunpoint. "What are you doing?"
The girl began to walk backwards slowly, but Kat was not about
to let another human out of her sight, especially one so young.
Kat stepped forward and grabbed the girl by the shoulders. "I'm
not here to hurt you, I didn't mean to scare you by holding you
at gunpoint. You scared me by trying to take my gun. Please
don't try and run away, come along with my new friends and me,
we can protect you from the zombies."
The girl just looked at her blankly, not saying anything. "Um,
okay. I'm Ekaterina Rzhevsky, but you can call me Kat. These are
my friends Crow and Christian, and this is my boyfriend, Andrei
Stanescu." The girl pointed to the guy in the mask. "Oh, this is
um, um..." Kat didn't know his name, or who he was. "My name is
Kain Austerlitz, pleased to meet you." He responded quickly.
Everyone looked at him.
"What's your name?" Kat asked, the girl shrugged. "You don't
know your name?" Kat was puzzled, the girl shook her head.
"Well she is good at hiding in the shadows, let's call her
Shadow." Christian suggested. The girl nodded and smiled.
"Okay, we shall call you Shadow! Welcome, we're happy to have
you here!" Kat smiled.

Lily
Lily was hiding in the forest. She heard people talking in the
distance. On the opposite side, she saw a man with a gun. Lily
started growling in hope to scare him away, but instead he came
closer. She ran towards the voices she heard a minute ago, just
to end up seeing Shadow and the others with their guns. Scared,
Lily hid behind a tree and watched what they did.

Shadow
Shadow, nodded, pleased, but still eyed the gun warily. She
wanted to ask why everyone was together, but she was having
trouble figuring out how. With a question in her eyes, she
motioned to the group. She hoped they could guess what she was
talking about, but all she got were a few blank faces. Shadow
took a deep breath, frustrated. She'd been mute ever since she
was born, of course; but she'd never felt any need to speak to
people before, and she was having a little difficulty figuring
out how to say things. Eventually she decided that it wasn't
important enough, and followed the group out into the forest (to
make @greensalmon's comment possible). Her acute hearing picked
up a slight rustle in the trees. Startled, she gestured wildly
at the spot it had come from.

Lily
Lily noticed them coming. She didn't know what to do, and let
out a small growl. Not sure if they would attack, she prepared
to hit them first. Crow came to the tree to see what was there
and Lily bit his arm hard and ran off.
"She's to fast to be a zombie." Crow said
After seeing that, they chased after her.

Shadow
Shadow outran them all, pushing forward at a speed that was
nearly impossible for someone her size. But, then again, she'd
known what it was like to run for her life long before the
apocalypse began. She cut Lily off, heart beating and daggers
poised for use. The two of them stood there, neither girl
speaking. Neither could. Shadow tilted her head to the side.
There was a question in her posture that hung heavily on the tip
of her lifeless tongue, but she didn't know how to ask it.
Instead, she waited for the others to catch up.
