Fullmetal Alchemist

Has anyone watched Fullmetal Alchemist? I've seen both anime
adaptations (though I strongly prefer Brotherhood). It's
probably one of my favorite TV shows--a magic-but-not-really
system based entirely around science? Perfection.
I'm watching Attack on Titan now, which actually seems pretty
similar in some regards. Eren and Edward would make an awesome
team.

Fullmetal Alchemist was the manga that got me into manga and
anime. I had read a few before it, but none made me realize how
beautiful it could be as a way to tell stories. I still own 7/8
of the set of novels, taking up a ridiculous amount of space on
my bookshelf.
It still definitely ranks in my top 5. But the regular show is
awful compared to brotherhood. Just saying.

I'll have to take that back. I watched Nausicaa and the Valley
of the Wind when I was 8. I didn't start reading manga after I
saw it, but it sparked my interest in it when I saw it at the
library.
Studio Ghibli is the best.

Currently reading the FMA manga. It's awesome.

Okay, I'm revising my earlier statement: Eren, Edward and
Nausicaa would be the best team ever.
I was a bit skeptical about Brotherhood, since I watched it
after watching the original anime--but comparing the two now,
the original doesn't hold up nearly as well. I like the
backstory for Brotherhood a lot better, and the ending was more
conclusive. The whole story seems more balanced in Brotherhood,
too; the characters are all meaningful and are exactly as
powerful as they're set up to be. The final boss in the original
anime died disappointingly easily.
I haven't read the manga yet, but I'm well aware that I should.
I heard that Brotherhood is pretty close to the manga, though.

That's correct. I didn't even make it all the way through the
ending of the regular anime. I had finished the manga first,
and I just couldn't do it. The whole thing seemed too wrong to
me.
In other news, I'm totally not trying to hijack this into a
Ghibli thread. That isn't what's going on here.

If you couldn't finish the regular anime because
of...inconsistencies...don't watch the movie sequel. Conquer of
Shamballa practically rewrites the whole lore of the world.
Also, you know what I've wanted to see for a long time now? A
Fullmetal Alchemist MMO game. Maybe it could be somewhere
between third-person shooter and strategy RPG. You could play
as:
Soldier: Can use all weapons, and can dual-wield. Capable of
using some tech.
Sniper: Can use powerful ranged weapons and moderate tech.
Alchemist: Can use melee weapons and basic ranged weapons.
Learns transmutations from quests, can cast long-term abilities
from libraries, and can select objects to quick-cast available
transmutations.
Alchehester/Alchehestress: Uses melee weapons and support
abilities; utilizes traps, buffs and debuffs.
Engineer: Uses all weapons and high tech. Can build weapons like
shock sticks and grenades. Can repair weapons, armor and
auto-mail.
Homunculus: Has only a few versatile abilities depending on
type. They have low health, but their regenerative capacity
increases with each level.
Chimera: Can be one of three kinds. Humanoid Chimeras get a few
special abilities and can wield weapons. Duplicitous Chimeras
can shift between human and chimera form. Feral Chimaeras are
animals with human intelligence, unable to wield weapons. All
high-level chimaeras eventually gain one or two super-animal
abilities, like spine projectiles or fire breath.
It would go really well with big player-vs-player maps, or
open-world exploration. Seriously, I know how difficult it is,
but someone needs to program this. :)

Lets be real. Everyone would be an Alchemist or a Homunculus.
No matter what drawbacks you put on them, they would always be
better then soldiers any day of the week.

Yeah, it seems like Soldier would be an underpowered class...but
then again, there's Olivier.
