Cavern [Open World] [Naviron]
By: Omni_Builder Date: November 19, 2013, 12:55 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I finally finished a new game. I have no idea how long it
took--probably at least 12 hours--but it's finished at last.
Has anyone tried Super Hostile? It's a series of custom
Minecraft maps which require you to bring several objects to a
Victory monument while crafting your way through extremely
hostile environments. That was partially the inspiration for
this game.
Here are some of the things you can find:
[li]Expansive battle environments with tons of ever-changing
enemy configurations[/li]
[li]Fluid dynamics; swimming reveals hidden locales, lowers
water levels, and causes surrounding rocks to shimmer[/li]
[li]Extremely nonlinear gameplay through deep scenery[/li]
[li]Lots of exploration--find the pages of a lost journal[/li]
[li]Six keys to lead you through all sorts of places and
challenges[/li]
[li]Two game modes; Easy Mode offers a level map for easy
navigation[/li]
[li]Powerups that you can find or unlock with keys--you never
have to get stuck[/li]
[li]NO BACKPACK--free health generators by every checkpoint[/li]
I'm really excited about this game and hope you decide to try it
out!

I've seen super-hostile adventure maps, but they always seem so
difficult, especially since you seem to start with nothing.
They looked fun (I'm always a fan of build and battle types of
games) but my computer probably couldn't handle the land
generation anyways. I'm still using this laptop mkg gave me for
winning a gamestar contest, and it gets slower and slower.
I look forward to seeing your game though! the idea sounds
really cool.

Thanks! I admit I've never actually completed a Super Hostile
map, but they're certainly very fun. My game isn't quite as hard
as Super Hostile (I can beat it in maybe 10 minutes if I'm
lucky) but it's still has 0 wins.
(Note: only a few of the enemies respawn--many areas, notably
the Ice Key area, can be made easier by liberal use of
checkpoints.)

I loved it! I couldn't win, tho'. Advice: DON'T PUT DIARY
ENTRIES! It seemed like a good touch, but then, after day 643 or
something, was day 327 or something! Not that you, a master
mechanic, should take a 10-year-old senior mechanic's advice
just cause' I said, but the diary was the lowest point.
Good game altogether, Omni!

Diary entries remind me of River and the Doctor.

Thanks for your responses! I hadn't considered that until you
pointed it out, Topaz1116; thanks!
SySky, sorry you didn't like the diary entries--it's pretty much
impossible to put the pages in order in a nonlinear game, but
I'll definitely take your advice into account. I appreciate your
input, and suggest that you just skip over the journal pages if
you didn't like them (they don't have any hints or anything).
Thanks for playing!

It's not that I didn't like it-- It's just it got out of order.
If it was a straight passage, the diary entries would rock!

Ah, I see what you're saying. I assumed that the entries would
be fine--maybe even improved--if the player discovers them out
of order. I'm thinking back on the entries and can see how that
may not be the case. Thanks for your input; I'll definitely
remember that in future games!

No, I'm with omni on this one. So much so that I'm willing to
ruin my 69 number of replies for it. Telling stories out of
order makes them so much better. You can fit key emotional
moments at the end, and it makes it all fit together! It's a
rare way for stories to be told, it doesn't get utilized as
much. But it's my favorite. It doesn't make sense when your
playing it, but you can piece together pieces of the timeline as
you go, and it's so much cooler once you know the whole thing.

Plus open world maps are the best thing ever. Just saying.
