Virgin Media unleashes world's fastest cable broadband

With a whopping 1.5Gb/s speed
If 100Mb is described by Virgin Media as "ultrafast" we're not
sure we can find the right superlative to describe its 1.5Gb
service that it has just revealed details of.
The ultramegasuperfast (that kinda works, right?) service is
what trialists in London's Silicon Roundabout are experiencing -
a speed 240 times faster than the national average broadband
speed and officially the world's fastest cable broadband.
The service also includes 150Mb upload speeds and even
Communications Minister, Ed Vaizey is excited by the trial. "It
is fantastic to see the fastest internet speeds in the world
over cable being trialled here in the UK," he said.
"This exciting development will help attract new companies and
entrepreneurs to the area, bringing new jobs and growth to this
part of the capital.
"Last year the Prime Minister set out our ambition for London’s
East End to become a world-leading technology city to rival
Silicon Valley. Developments like Virgin Media’s will help make
this ambition a reality."
The high-speeds are possible as a result of huge investment from
Virgin Media and it states the tech is future proof. It uses
DOCSIS2 technology with "theoretically near infinite capacity".
Virgin Media also recently announced that its 100Mb service now
reaches over a quarter of the country. That seems a bit slow now
though.....

I get download speeds of 1gb/s on my talktalk connection, whats
the big deal about 1.5 gb/s? Am i missing something here?

LOL would still get problems on PSN though
Can't even get cable in my area at the mo,though can get BT
Infinity but holding out for BE fibre optic

You get 1Gb/s from Talk Talk? So you get approx 120MB/s download
speeds?
Meaning you can download a 4.7GB DVD in 40 seconds?
If so it's amazing that Talk Talk have managed to keep that
quiet.

How the hell are you managing to got those kinds of speeds with
Talk Talk mate? They only offer 'up to' 40Meg by way of their
'Fibre Optic Boost', whatever the hell that is :)
