       PS3 Problem
       By: neilg38 Date: July 27, 2011, 9:55 am

       Hi all,
I am experiencing some problems with my PS3. It has just started
freezing during game play and I can't quit of the game.
Anyone have ideas on what might be causing it, or a solution?
Or has it bit the dust?

Can you use disc cleaners in PS3's? You know the discs with the
       little bristles on?
Could just be a bit of dust on lens. If not it could mean the
disc drive is on it's way out.

Will see if I can use one of those cleaners.
Disc drive on the way out doesn't sound good, is it replaceable
or easier just getting a new one??

I'd have thought if the disc drive was on it's way out, a
       replacement is the way forward.

Whooops added this to chat didn't see the post :-
you could try backing up the save games and things like that and
doing a hard drive format, or just recreate the system settings
so it just eliminates any problems there. How old is the system?

If its just one game it`s happening on I find uninstalling the
game data (not the game save data) and then just pop the disk in
to re-install. Happened to me three times atalmost the same
point Crysis 2 froze, I uninstalled then reinstalled worked a
       treat.

I have tried vampires advice and it looks like it is working ok
       for now.
Also moved it out from it's normal position as it might have
       been overheating.
If it is the disc drive, is it worth replacing or just getting a
       whole new system?

In my opinion it's probably worth getting a new system, yeah the
drive is going to work out cheaper however there are quite a few
console deals out there which may be up your street

The standard repair is £130. You can get PS3's new for £200 now,
so if it does eventually pack in completely, you would be as
       well getting a new one.
