Mature Gaming Leagues - Your Thoughts & Input
By: Blugger Date: July 25, 2011, 10:10 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Good Afternoon Gentlemen!
I require the help of the Gamerdads with a little bit of
research. If you have 5 minutes, can you read through what I
have written below, and give me a reply of any ideas or
questions.
Over the last few years, console gaming competitions have become
popular with the younger generation, i.e. the 16 - 25 year olds,
and a lot of older gamers do not attend these events due to the
lack of time to practice, the pressure to compete against
younger people (skill levels), plus the inevitable peer
pressure.
If a ‘mature’ (25 or 30+) competition was set up, what would
possibly make you attend?
My first thoughts on this would be:
•
pressure gaming.
•
•
•
These are only my initial thoughts on the subject, I was
wondering as a community, what were you thoughts on it?
To give you some idea of these events, I have put a couple of
videos below to give you an idea.

If you can help me out with this, I will be eternally grateful!
Thanks for your time!

Ha great minds must surely think alike.
As far as getting people to attend is concerned, Ideas such as
retro gaming and chill out areas sound like a great idea. I
would also add that 'new' games should be included.
I would say a less competetive environment is a must have, with
the emphasis definately being more centred toward the fun
element.
I think the key thing for a 'mature' gaming league would be
accesibility.
The MLG area is known for its 'elitism' which I think would put
many people off.
If doors were thrown open and people could take part from all
walks of life I think you'd be on to a winner regardless. Purely
because its easy to access.
Naturally getting people to take part would require prizes and
incentives.
As for getting people to attend to view? I think a convention
type setting would be best. Things to do/see/play with. As well
as watching the competition.
Erm I hope that helps.....

I presume location and size of venue would have some bearing on
the inside content

I would love to do something like this, but with being a
full-time dad I don't think I'll ever get the chance to.
A bar is a must! ;D Although I don't think Baz would get much
gaming done if there was one.

I think this sounds great, some good ideas you have got there
blugger. The Retro section sounds great and I like the Idea of a
relased competition. I think making the Game mode or weapons
silly would help with this and stop it becoming too much like
hard work for the players involved. A bar and chill out are are
again a must. Maybe some kind of stalls selling retro tshirts
knick knacks etc.
