       Duke Nukem Forever

So, how many Gamer Dads are going to buy DNF ? Been plenty of
excitement about MW3 and BF3 on Twitter etc, but pretty much
nothing on DNF ? There were a few beta testing codes around. Has
       anyone played the beta ?

Believe it or not I know nothing about this game, or even
       franchise.
Original must have been released back in the time when I took a
big break from gaming, so I have no excitement for it at all.
Even the adverts for it don't really explain what it is. SO far
now I don't see me buying it.

I suppose that 12 years after the release of Duke Nukem 3D,
people have either never heard of it, or forgotten it. DN3D was
a great game though. 2k games, are obviously spending a lot of
money on relaunching it as a franchise. It will just come down
to how good the game is. I will definitely be getting it, so
will let you know what I think.

       Just downloading the demo now.
Maybe this is a case of never revisiting your past. We tend to
look back at games with rose tinted specs.

I played the demo at gadgetshowlive and have it on early access
amd I agree with GD-it's a case of Rose tinted specs I'm
       afraid...
I used to love DN3D-had it on Megadrive&pc. Was good for the
time but on reloading recently for the Retrocast (I'm making a
then and now vid), it doesn't hold up...
The new one is a bit "flat" to me, apart from the initial boss
fight it just doesn't play right... Amd the crude humor just
feels forced to get the teenage boy vote...
       A shame really....

Reviews have been good and bad. Kiss_My_Whip has completed it
and reckons it was good. I am guessing it will have a retro ish
sort of feel, which might not be so bad. Anyway - I get it next
Sunday off lastagaindammit for my birthday, so will let you know
       what I think !

Oy..I heard that...lol...Better not give it to him too early
then...lol..only ordered it from Amazon today for his birthday,
though I did double check 'thedammedunited' still wanted it
       before ordering. ;-)
I don't suppose too many younger gamers will recall the original
versions of this game, it actually started life as an uncrippled
PC shareware game, the developers were quite talented at the
time, and the graphics were very good compared to other games of
that period. The original series were good games and had good
       playability/fun factor in their day.
However, time has moved on and whether it cuts it now is another
matter, some people have said it suffers a little due to it
using the the old unreal gaming engine, but TBH, the unreal
engine was actually very good, I still occasionally play the
original Unreal Tournament game and it still looks pretty good
to me, one of the few games you can play with ease on a lowly
       laptop..lol
